The Female CEO's Personal Bodyguard

Chapter 1021: Chapter 1021: Land of Chaos

Carson Flores and Lilianna Norman traveled together towards the west, and after spending a month’s time, they finally left Easty Prefecture and entered the domain of the Central Divine Continent.

Carson hesitated over whether to meet his father, but in the end, he gave up the idea.

For one thing, now that he was the new Human Emperor, if the personality of the Demon Emperor prevailed, even if it didn’t kill him, he suspected he would likely be captured and kept in captivity for life, never allowed to return to the Human Race.

Secondly, the matter involving the Demon Ancestor remained unresolved. Carson had almost caused the destruction and disintegration of the Demon Ancestor’s soul. If the Demon Ancestor wasn’t dead, showing himself would be akin to seeking death.

Although Lilianna Norman’s account didn’t prove much, at least one thing was certain: his father’s soul memory was still intact and had not disappeared.

With that, it was enough.

The two were flying low when they suddenly spotted a horse caravan traveling on the mountain road below, consisting of roughly twenty people.

Carson and Lilianna descended from the sky and landed in front of the caravan.

The middle-aged man leading the caravan approached with a tense expression, ”Esteemed Immortals, how may I be of service to you?”

Carson smiled faintly, ”Old man, there’s no need to be nervous, we’re just asking for directions.”

The middle-aged man heaved a sigh of relief and responded with hands clasped, ”Please ask, Esteemed Immortals.”

Carson inquired, ”What place is this, and where is it located within the Central Divine Continent?”

The middle-aged man replied, ”This land belongs to the territory of Greown City, which is situated in the northeast of the Central Divine Continent, bordering Easty Prefecture.”

Carson’s expression brightened slightly, a Human Race city?

”Where is Greown City in relation to here, and does it have any Flying Boats crossing between cities?”

The territory was vast, and flying aimlessly could lead to getting lost or even wandering into dangerous areas. Taking a cross-city Flying Boat meant traveling along safe routes, which was not only secure, but also allowed one to cultivate while on the Flying Boat, thus not missing out on anything.

Cultivators traveling alone often prefer to take commercial Flying Boats if they are not in a hurry.

The middle-aged man answered, ”It’s just thirty miles ahead. There are Flying Boats within the city, but they are few in number.”

After hesitating, he glanced at Lilianna with a low voice, ”If you two are not in a rush, you might consider traveling on your own. Greown City has been somewhat troubled recently...”

Carson noted the way the man looked at Lilianna and asked, ”What kind of troubles are you referring to?”

The middle-aged man answered in a low voice, ”A few days ago, Greown City was occupied by a group from the Demon Race. They’ve been imposing brutal levies and causing utter chaos. The leader of the Demons has a taste for women, any woman of even slight beauty would be seized and taken to the City Lord’s Mansion, played with, and many have already died...”

Carson immediately realized that the middle-aged man, seeing Lilianna’s beauty, was kindly warning them, lest they enter the city and draw the attention of the Demons.

Carson asked, ”Who was in charge of managing Greown City before this?”

”It was a pair of Cultivator husband and wife. They were quite kind to the people of the city, but it’s a pity the good do not last long. When the Demons stormed in, the male Immortal was killed and the Female Immortal was captured. She refused to submit to the Demons and would not entertain them with her beauty, so she took her own life.”

The middle-aged man’s voice held unmistakable indignation, ”Those Demons are inhuman. Even after the Female Immortal killed herself, they didn’t spare her body...”

”The Demons ended up hanging the bodies of the two Immortals on the city walls, naked. The Female Immortal’s body was mutilated, and it’s still hanging there now. No one dares to collect their remains—it’s too tragic!”

Carson’s expression grew heavier, ”Is there no one in charge of managing Greown City properly?”

The middle-aged man gave a bitter smile, ”There’s no chance for anyone to manage it permanently. You might take control for ten years, then I could drive you away and manage for twenty years—it all depends on who is more capable. But generally, if it’s a Cultivator from the Human Race managing it, our lives are somewhat better. After all, they only enslave humans, but if the Demons are in charge, we all live in constant fear, they could devour humans at any moment...”

Carson glanced at Lilianna, who remained calm.

Carson asked, ”Is the whole Central Divine Continent like this?”

The man sighed, ”I’ve heard that the regions close to the south and west of the Central Divine Continent have fewer Demons and are mainly Human Race territory. The overseers of the major cities are mostly Human Race Immortals, and the situation is much better.”

”The areas close to Easty Prefecture in the east, northeast, and southeast are teeming with the Demon Race. Demons frequently come from Easty Prefecture into the Central Divine Continent to capture cities and lands. In this region, the struggle for the cities is intense and the swapping of City Lords happens rapidly.”

”Fortunately, after tens of thousands of years of warfare between the Human and Demon Races, no matter the struggle, they generally avoid slaughtering the common folk extensively. After all, once they conquer a city, they too need citizens to toil for them. That’s why everyone has a chance to live; otherwise, these towns might have been void of life long ago.”

Carson softly questioned, ”With the living environment so harsh, haven’t you considered relocating?”

The middle-aged man gave a wry smile, ”Whether it’s the Human Race or the Demon Race managers, they strictly control the Flying Boat stations. They won’t allow us commoners the chance to leave by Flying Boat. As for traveling by foot, given our pace, we’d likely die before getting far. Not to mention the Demonic Beasts everywhere—if we stray a bit too far from a city, it’s tantamount to suicide...”
