The Female CEO's Personal Bodyguard

Chapter 924: Chapter 924: Have You Ever Cared About the Life and Death of an Ant?

Elsie Matthews remained silent, because she knew that what Carson Flores said was true.

”He who kills shall be killed.”

Carson Flores didn’t dwell on this matter, because he was very clear that for himself, this principle applied, but for her, someone had killed her sister, and she killing that person in retribution for her sister was also a necessary deed.

With different standpoints, perspectives naturally vary.

The most important thing was that between cultivators, it was strength that was respected, not reason. Only when their strengths were comparable, and neither could do anything to the other, would reason be discussed.

”What your sister said, is it true?”

Elsie Matthews replied with a cold face, ”Roughly accurate.”

Carson Flores asked curiously, ”In the story she told, you weren’t mentioned at all. I’m very curious, how come you’re here, and in the story, what role do you play?”

Elsie Matthews fell silent.

Carson Flores waited for a long time, and when he thought she wouldn’t tell him, she suddenly began to speak.

”I’m the elder sister, she is the younger. Ever since she was young, she was domineering, rebellious, and strong-willed. She possessed great talent and strength and was very combative.”

”She caused trouble everywhere and was murderous by nature, causing a lot of problems. Every time, it fell to me to clean up the mess. I repeatedly advised her to change, but she wouldn’t listen. Later, I ascended first. I was taken in by a major figure as a maiden at his side, occasionally pulling carts, making an impression on his behalf. With his protection, life was quite carefree.”

”After she ascended, she found me. Knowing her rebellious nature and that while in the Lower Realm her formidable strength might have sustained her, in the Immortal Realm, such rebelliousness could get her crushed in an instant, I helped her enter service under that major figure as well, to be a maiden like me.”

”Unfortunately, she remained willful and unyielding, even after ascension she didn’t change at all. She felt that pulling carts demeaned her status and was very dissatisfied. One day, she made a mistake and was reprimanded by that major figure. Instead of repenting, she harbored a grudge in her heart.”

”Taking advantage of the major figure’s absence from his Cave Mansion, she turned it upside down and even smashed his most beloved Pill Furnace, stole all the elixirs inside, and even sneaked back to the Lower Realm.”

”Enraged, the major figure killed her true form and suppressed her soul, subjecting her to endless agony. Because I was the one who had introduced her, I got implicated as well and was punished to guard her here.”

”I was aware of all her actions, but she was trying to save herself, so of course, I wouldn’t stop her. I never expected someone would actually be able to kill her.”

”In some ways, I should indeed thank you. Now that she’s dead, my duty to guard her has ended, and I can return to the Immortal Realm. But still, that same sentence applies, even if she was wrong, she is still my sister, so I must kill you.”

After listening to the story, Carson Flores curiously asked, ”Didn’t your sister say that the passage between heaven and earth was severed? How can you return to the Immortal Realm?”

Elsie Matthews replied, ”What was cut was the bridge, but the door remains. Since I already possess a True Dragon Form, as long as that person permits it, guides me above, I can naturally return to the Immortal Realm.”

Permit?

Guide?

This sounded similar to the gateways of the Blessed Land of Cave Heavens in the Cultivation Realm – you can’t just enter because you want to; someone above must agree to open the door and let you in.

Carson Flores voiced his greatest perplexity, ”If the bridge was severed, can it be reconnected?”

Elsie Matthews answered, ”The bridge wasn’t naturally there in the first place. If it could be built once, naturally it could be constructed a second time. The main thing is whether those above are willing to reintegrate the Barbaric Wilderness Realm, whether they wish to build another bridge?”

Is there hope?

Carson Flores inquired further, ”Could you tell me what exactly happened that caused the Immortal Realm to order the severing of the pathway and forbid the cultivators of the Barbarian Wilderness from ascending?”

Elsie Matthews shook her head, ”I’m not sure about that. After all, I’m just a maiden in service. Although it was he who severed the bridge, he wouldn’t discuss it with me any further.”

Carson Flores felt a bit disappointed. After some thought, he asked again, ”Since you say the door above hasn’t closed, only the bridge was cut, can the people of the Barbarian Wilderness construct a bridge themselves to connect with that door?”

Elsie Matthews shook her head, ”I don’t know, but even if a bridge was built, if they don’t agree, they could cut it down with a backhand, and they might even send down great disasters as punishment...”

Carson Flores sneered, ”The high and mighty Immortals? Everyone below an Immortal is akin to ants; is that what you mean?”

Elsie Matthews spoke in a cold tone, her voice filled with undisguised sarcasm, ”Upon becoming an Immortal, lifespans are measured in tens of thousands of years. To mortals who barely live a century, all goes by in the blink of an eye. That is like how humans view ants that live only a year or even just a few days.”

”Humans might crush a perfectly fine ant underfoot, douse an anthill with water, or set it aflame for fun, watching them struggle in water or burn to ash in fire. Do you think they care about the lives of ants, their feelings?”
