The Female CEO's Personal Bodyguard

Chapter 609: Chapter 609: If Not Now, When?_1

The ground was littered with uneven chunks of ice, and Carson Flores tripped, making everything seem perfectly normal.

Although everyone’s eyes fell on Carson Flores at the same time, there was no suspicion; in fact, they all wore the look of someone watching a joke unfold.

Carson Flores’s hand pierced into the belly of the fish, reaching directly toward the source of the Spiritual Energy, and then touched it.

Thin, icy cold to the bone.

This was a mirror!

Carson Flores shifted his hand slightly, grasped the edge of the mirror, and with a thought, the Water-Fire Mirror was directly absorbed into the Space Ring on his right finger.

The surge of Spiritual Energy abruptly stopped.

Carson Flores withdrew his hand, opened it in front of everyone, his arm smeared with fresh blood and filth.

His hand was empty.

Carson Flores shook his hands, cursing with a look of annoyance, ”Even if I wanted to eat you, did you have to screw me over like this?”

Everyone burst into laughter.

”This fish has become a spirit, dead and still screwing you over with some shit!”

”Tried to eat the fish but ended up being eaten by the fish!”

After deliberately displaying his sorry state with nothing to show, Carson Flores cursed a couple of times, pretending he couldn’t stand the ridicule and squeezed out of the crowd.

Seth Hoffman did not become suspicious, ”Get two people to carry this fish to the kitchen, let’s have an extra meal tonight, it should taste good.”

Seeing this, Carson Flores threw several more punches, collapsing more ice fragments, and spoke, ”You guys go ahead and carry it, I’m going to take a leak and clean myself.”

”Go ahead.”

Since there was plenty to do and it wouldn’t delay the progress, no one in the group paid much mind to Carson Flores’s comings and goings.

Carson Flores left the crowd but did not head to the camp; instead, he walked toward the forest on the other side, his pace neither fast nor slow.

Carson Flores soon reached the edge of the lake. Although some saw him, no one paid him any attention, as many took care of their physiological needs in the nearby woods during the day.

Carson Flores’s figure quickly disappeared into the woods, then swiftly moved on.

He dared not linger.

Such a massive fish was a bug-like anomaly in itself. If it was brought to the camp, the people from the three Blessed Lands of Cave Heavens would surely speculate.

Even if they did not guess on the spot that someone had taken the Water-Fire Mirror from the fish’s belly, when the ice was completely broken open the next day and the Water-Fire Mirror was still missing, they would definitely investigate. The fish would become pivotal; upon questioning the witnesses, Carson Flores himself would inevitably be caught.

If he didn’t leave now, when would he?

Just as Carson Flores hadn’t gone far, the sound of a bell rang out from the camp, signaling the end of work and time to eat.

Carson Flores quickened his pace.

...

On the mountain top, Kaenu Hail and others were chatting.

Emilio Compton from the Eastern Peak Sanctuary of the Sacred Mountain laughed, ”It looks like we’ll have it all open by tomorrow at the latest. Who would have thought, even now, as the entire lake is being shattered, none of the three sides have discovered...”

Nikolai Jimenez from Long Mountain Sanctuary of Blessed Land frowned and said nothing.

They had found the body of the Cultivator Cayson Reid, but the Water-Fire Mirror wasn’t on him, nor in his Space Ring!

What they thought was a sure victory had turned into standing at the starting line again. His emotions were like a roller coaster ride.

Elise Parry from the Sanctuary of the Ethereal Void chuckled, ”Let’s see who has better luck, and no sneaky tricks, you hear?”

Kaenu Hail gazed at the not-too-long stretch of ice-laden lake below, frowning as he asked, ”Could there be a mistake in the survey, not under this lake?”

”Impossible!”

The three answered in unison, ”It’s definitely at the bottom of the lake!”

Kaenu Hail smiled and said, ”I don’t understand magical treasures, I just think it’s too coincidental, so I asked.”

As they were talking, two Cultivators came by carrying a huge fish, and Kaenu Hail’s eyes lit up, ”Such a big fish?”

Emilio Compton’s eyes gleamed, ”Half a year frozen, half a year thawed, a fish this big can only grow in half a year. It must be because of the nourishment from the Spiritual Energy of the Water-Fire Mirror. Following the habits of fish, it definitely won’t stray far from the Water-Fire Mirror; it should be nearby!”

Kaenu Hail’s gaze fell on the hole in the fish’s body and asked, ”How come this fish’s belly is torn?”

The Cultivators carrying the fish recounted Carson Flores’s fall and how he punctured the fish’s belly. Kaenu Hail laughed and said nothing, while Emilio Compton and the others had no doubts.

One, because it was in full view of everyone, and two, they had not witnessed any anomaly of Spiritual Energy.

”This is a fish nourished by Spiritual Energy. Though common in species, the meat must be delicious; take it to the kitchen and add it to the menu.”

Emilio Compton laughed, ”Let’s go, have the chef prepare us a chopped chili fish head; it’ll be a treat.”

The four returned to the camp and ate at ease.

Not long after sitting down, Kaenu Hail suddenly furrowed his brows, looked towards the grass beside him, reached out to wipe it, and lifted his hand, wet and drippy.

Kaenu Hail looked at his own hand, puzzled, and asked, ”These past days, the moisture in these grasslands was completely frozen solid, but why do I feel like all this ice has melted now?”
