Humanity's Great Sage

Chapter 697, The Way

Lu Ye’s combat style was aggressive. It had nothing to do with his temperament. It was mainly because of his experiences.

In fact, he was a pretty gentle person, unlike how aggressive he usually appeared.

Before he started cultivating, he was a mining slave for Evil Moon Valley. That was a dog-eat-dog place. In such an environment, if he weren’t aggressive, he wouldn’t have survived. The fights between commoners were sometimes more intense than those between cultivators.

Then, he had a chance to become a disciple of Tang Yi Feng, thus making him part of the Crimson Blood Sect. However, before he even arrived at the Sect, he was sent to the Spirit Creek Battlefield. He only had himself to rely on. Faced with all sorts of enemies, he had to be ferocious and unyielding.

Therefore, he stuck to his principle or habit of being aggressive and intimidating when it came to combat. Regardless of whether he could defeat the other party, he had to appear confident.

This kind of combat style perfectly matched the essence of the Tyrant Blade Technique.

That was the reason he managed to master the first move of the blade technique in half a month. Besides the fact that he had Soul Cleansing Water to relieve the pressure on his soul, his temperament was also compatible with the blade technique.

If he were a wimpy cultivator, his mastery couldn’t have improved tremendously regardless of how much Soul Cleansing Water he had.

If his temperament wasn’t compatible with the blade technique, it would be useless for him to learn it.

Tyrant Blade Technique had a total of three moves. Although Lu Ye had only learned the first move, the blade technique didn’t only encompass the moves.

It was a complete system of its own.

When learning the first move, Lu Ye gained some invaluable insights into the blade technique.

Therefore, when he made a move now, the pressure he mounted on his opponents was even stronger than before. As the cultivators from Divine Will Sect looked at Lu Ye, he didn’t seem like a Human at all. Instead, he was like a ferocious tiger or a feisty Dragon who was ready to swallow them up.

No cultivator could take even one move from him.

As Saber Lights flickered, shrieks were heard while the corpses collapsed to the ground, and their blood dyed the ground red.

In just twenty breaths of time, more than ten out of over thirty cultivators were killed.

On the other hand, Lu Ye was completely fine.

In Soaring Dragon Boundary, the Eighth-Order and Ninth-Order Masters, whose cultivation was stuck forever, indeed had plenty of time to hone their combat skills. As such, they were generally stronger than the cultivators who were in the same Realm in Jiu Zhou.

However, that didn’t include the cultivators from Divine Will Sect.

The strongest cultivators among these people were Seventh-Order Masters, and there were only three of them. The rest of them were below the Seventh Order, including the First Order and the Second Order.

Given Lu Ye’s current power, it wouldn’t take him much effort to destroy them. It was just a walk in the park for him.

As he wandered around, he carefully felt the Inviolable Saber in his hand and comprehended every move he made. His understanding of the Tyrant Blade Technique grew deeper. Instead of weakening, his aura strengthened as he soldiered on.

“Ah!” Finally, some cultivators from Divine Will Sect couldn’t take it anymore. They shouted and turned around to run away.

They initially thought that even though the Third Elder was killed, they could defeat Lu Ye by joining forces.

They believed that after Lu Ye activated the Tyrant Blade Technique, he must be on his last legs.

However, that was just their wishful thinking.

After half of them were killed, their fear got the better of them, and they gave in to their instinct to survive.

Nevertheless, the moment they took a step forward, they heard some buzzes as several rays of light raced after them. Their Spiritual Power Shields were shattered. The rays of light penetrated their bodies and carried some blood with them. Due to inertia, their corpses fell forward for several metres before collapsing to the ground.

“Disperse!” someone yelled.

Since they couldn’t defeat the enemy, they had no choice but to flee. Even if they couldn’t run away, they just had to make sure that they were more agile than their companions.

Everyone shared the same sentiment after the person told them to disperse. There were only a total of eight survivors as they ran away in eight different directions. All of them had activated their Secret Techniques, hoping to save their lives. At that moment, rays of colourful lights appeared.

Lu Ye couldn’t possibly run after so many people. The telekinesis in his weapon holder buzzed and attacked two people while Lu Ye pounced on another person.

After killing him, he turned around and ran after another person.

It was a good idea to disperse and run away. The strategy might work if Lu Ye was someone else. However, it would be pointless if they couldn’t move fast enough.

Several minutes later, Lu Ye moved across thirty kilometres and destroyed the last cultivator of the Divine Will Sect.

At this point, all of his opponents were killed.

He put his saber back into the sheath with a calm expression. As a glint flashed across his eyes, he pondered what he had learned in this battle.

It had to be said that his mastery had improved significantly after learning Tyrant Blade Technique for half a month. Compared to half a month ago, even though his cultivation didn’t increase much, his mastery had improved considerably.

Also, he now had a system of his own.

He had it in the past, but it was unorganised. He was unable to summarise and sort out his system when dealing with the enemies.

With the help of the Tyrant Blade Technique, he now had a clearer picture of his system.

That brought a lot of benefits.

Simply put, when Lu Ye cultivated the Way of Blades back then, he was like walking around as a blind person. He would go anywhere at will, but he would occasionally crash into walls. Although he had extorted a lot of insights on the Way of Wards from the Raving Bladesmen, which helped save him a lot of time, he was still no different from a blind person.

However, it was different now. He was finally able to see the light and the path ahead. The path was called the Way of Blades. He just had to walk down the path and cultivate to continuously improve his mastery.

This was a path that belonged to him, and it was different from improving his cultivation.

The increase in cultivation was like an avenue that all cultivators shared. As long as they cultivated patiently, all of them could go further ahead on the avenue.

Nevertheless, every cultivator should have a path that only belonged to him.

That wasn’t easy.

It had been two to three years since Lu Ye started cultivating, but it wasn’t until this day that he could finally see the path in front of him.

At the thought of this, he couldn’t help but lament.

Then, he consumed several Spirit Pills before he contacted Yi Yi. After identifying the direction, he started heading north.

One day later, he arrived at Eternelle Restaurant in the City of Wishes, which was located somewhere between Feng Zhou and Jia Zhou.

It was the most luxurious restaurant in the City of Wishes, and it was full of customers every day.

On the third floor, Lu Ye, Yi Yi, and Ye Liuli were seated together as they enjoyed the restaurant’s signature dishes.

Lu Ye rarely frequented any restaurant. After he became a cultivator, he was either cultivating or being hunted down. As such, he had never been in the mood to sit down in a restaurant and enjoy a meal.

He came to this place following Ye Liuli’s suggestion.

That was because she remembered that when she followed Ye Ying to the north as a young kid, they came to this restaurant to have a meal while they were in the City of Wishes. Since she was only a young kid at that time, she couldn’t remember many details.

Now that Ye Ying was gone, Lu Ye was responsible for looking after her. As such, they came to the city and visited the restaurant where Ye Liuli had been to when she was a young kid.

Lu Ye was fine with that, so he obliged.

Although there were a lot of cultivators in the restaurant, there were even more commoners.

That was the norm in Soaring Dragon Boundary. The boundary between cultivators and commoners was vague, which amazed Lu Ye.

Ever since he entered the Spirit Creek Battlefield, he had never seen a commoner again. The people he came into contact with were cultivators in the same Realm, though he knew little about the norm in Jiu Zhou.

The customers pigged out on their food while a storyteller told some mesmerising stories. Many people were also conversing loudly.

Restaurants, teahouses, and theatres were always full of people from all walks of life.

“Guys, have you heard that Senior Li Sa from the Imperial Sect passed away three days ago?” someone said all of a sudden. Upon hearing that, everyone in the restaurant fell silent. Many people appeared shocked. It was apparent that they hadn’t heard of the news.

The transmission of news in Soaring Dragon Boundary wasn’t as convenient as that in Jiu Zhou, where it would only take half a day before all the cultivators learned of any major events.

The Imperial Sect had been around for a very long time.

The situation in Soaring Dragon Boundary was different. The limit of their cultivation was low. Regardless of how hard they tried, they could never shatter the shackles of Cloud River Realm. Therefore, almost every Sect had some Ninth-Order Masters.

No cultivator would have the nerve to establish a Sect before they even ascended to the Ninth Order.

The difference between the Sects was their number of Ninth-Order Masters.

The more Ninth-Order Masters a Sect had, the more powerful it was.

In this world, there was no doubt that the Imperial Sect was one of the hegemons. The other two universally acknowledged hegemons were Vajra Temple and Grandeur Academy.

These three hegemons were equally matched, and they ruled over their respective territories.

There were many Sects in this world, after all. Some Sects were actually comparable to the three of them, but only these three were universally acknowledged to be the hegemons.

It wasn’t that they were more formidable than the rest. It was mainly due to their heritages.

These three Sects had been around for over a thousand years, and they were already the hegemons in Soaring Dragon Boundary back then.

On the other hand, it wasn’t uncommon to see Sects that had been around for a thousand years in Jiu Zhou.

However, Soaring Dragon Boundary was different.

Since the limit of cultivation was low, some gaps in inheritances might occur as the Sects were passed down to the younger generations. As the heritages were gradually damaged, the Sects would weaken and eventually die out.

Take Tyrant Blade Manor as an example. The manor had only been around for twenty years, and it was now gone.

Just like Tyrant Blade Manor, there were countless rising great forces that were eventually destroyed in Soaring Dragon Boundary.

Such a thing rarely happened to the major great forces in Jiu Zhou. As long as some Divine Ocean Realm Masters were in charge, the Sects would generally be fine. Even if there were no impressive cultivators in the first and second generations, bright cultivators would emerge in the third and fourth generations. As such, the Sects would continue to flourish.

Cult Blackfyre, the Tower of Morning, and the Vale of Venom used to be Tier-One Sects. Although they were now Tier-Four Sects after facing some trouble, they didn’t show signs of dying out anytime soon because their heritages were ample.

If any calamity happened to a Sect in Soaring Dragon Boundary, it would be destroyed instantly.

In comparison, it was much harder to sustain the Sects in Soaring Dragon Boundary. Therefore, the Sects that had been hegemons for over a thousand years must be tough.
