Humanity's Great Sage

Chapter 673: Entering the Tower

When Lu Ye arrived at Hundred Wards Tower, the Spell Cultivator surnamed Yu, who was hurt by Lu Ye, had fallen into a dangerous ward.

The huge wound on his chest was hideous. The flesh around the wound had rolled up, and his blood would not stop streaming out of it.

This kind of injury was severe to a Sixth-Order Spell Cultivator like him, but it was not to the point where it would kill him.

Even though he was just a Spell Cultivator, he was still a pretty powerful cultivator. His physique was not as robust as Combat Cultivators and Body-Tempering Cultivators, but he was much stronger than the commoners.

As long as he had time to recuperate, he would recover one day. What made him feel despondent was the situation he was in.

Just now, he was attacked by Lu Ye, which made him fall out of the safe passageway and plunge into a ward. Worried that Lu Ye would run after him, he charged forward the moment he landed on the ground. That was how he lost his way.

Although he was certain he wasn’t far away from the safe passageway, he couldn’t identify the direction of it.

Since time immemorial, countless Ward Cultivators had left behind all sorts of wards, and with the tower’s mysterious power spreading across the place, the wards in this area seemed to have gone through some strange transformation.

If one was not adept at the Way of Wards, they would not be able to leave this place alive after falling into such an area.

There was a skeleton beside the man surnamed Yu. No one knew how long it had been there, but the bones were fragile and disarranged. Looking at the skeleton, he felt as though he would end up in the same state.

Moreover, he could feel a great sense of danger looming over him. Although he did not know what it was, he realised that he had fallen into a menacing ward.

Emotions like resentment and frustration were undulating in his heart. He had no idea how a Fifth-Order Combat Cultivator could defeat them when he and another Seventh-Order Combat Cultivator had joined forces to launch a sneak attack on him. His companion was killed on the spot, and he was forced into a despairing state.

Regardless, he had to treat his wound as quickly as possible. It would not be too late for him to break the ward when he recovered. Perhaps he would be able to survive.

However, before that, he had to tell everyone that Lu Ye had arrived at Hundred Wards Tower. Certainly, after suffering such a setback, he wouldn’t be resigned.

Since he was in a horrible state, he would not let Lu Ye have a peaceful time either. He tapped on his Battlefield Imprint and sent out a message.

Outside Hundred Wards Tower, Lu Ye looked up and counted before realising that just like the one in the Heavenly Derivative Sect, the tower before his eyes had 33 floors.

In other words, the last part of the tower had 34 floors, and it was also the top part. Nevertheless, no one knew where the last part of the tower was.

There was an entrance at the bottom of the tower. When Lu Ye looked in that direction, he saw that an energetic Ward Cultivator entered the building and disappeared.

Just then, another Ward Cultivator abruptly appeared in front of the entrance. His pale face suggested that he was badly injured, and he could not even stand stably. After spraying out a mouthful of blood, he fell to the ground. It was hard to tell if he was dead or alive.

A cultivator who knew this person exclaimed and pulled him away before stuffing some pills into his mouth.

It was dangerous to go through the challenges in Hundred Wards Tower. Lu Ye had entered the tower in the Heavenly Derivative Sect before, so he was fully aware of it.

Every floor had a different challenge, but all in all, there were three types of tests, which were breaking, building, and completing the wards.

The first one meant that the cultivators had to break the wards within the tower. As for the second one, the cultivators had to build the wards according to the requirements given by the tower. On the other hand, completing wards was the extension of building wards. There would be an incomplete or broken ward in the tower, and the cultivators were required to complete it.

If one felt that completing a ward was easy, there was a saying that circulated among the Ward Cultivators. They would rather build ten wards than complete one ward.

That was because when one built a ward from scratch, he knew everything about it and could do it his way.

However, it was different when it came to completing a ward. There were all sorts of mistakes and loopholes in a half-baked ward. To complete such a ward, it would take a cultivator significantly more effort and a longer time than building a ward from scratch. Not only was he not allowed to damage the ward, but he also had to accommodate the original logic of it. Hence, it was much harder than building a ward.

If all the tests in the tower were about building wards, there would not be any danger. That was because even if they could not successfully build the ward and failed the test, they would only be chased out of the tower.

Nevertheless, there would be a danger when it came to breaking and completing wards. If the wards were accidentally triggered, the cultivators would be injured or even killed.

Many Ward Cultivators would enter the tower every year, and quite a number of the arrogant ones would lose their lives inside.

That was the danger that came with the tests. Even if one successfully passed the tests, he might not even be safe. That was because after one passed the tests, the tower would give him a reward in the form of Enlightenment. The cultivator would receive a lot of information about the Way of Wards in a short time.

It was like the time when Lu Ye tried to take a look at the information on the Tree of Glyphs, and it was even more violent.

When a lot of information gushed into a person’s mind all of a sudden, his soul would feel as though it had been torn apart. The better one performed in the tower, the more rewards he would get, and the more intense the pain would be.

Previously, Lu Ye had relied on the Soul Cleansing Water to get through the pain.

Therefore, since his arrival at the Cloud River Battlefield, he had been looking for treasures that could help restore one’s soul, but his attempt was unsuccessful. It was not until he accidentally entered the Lost City of Xianyuan and acquired a lot of Soul Cleansing Water that he decided to come to Hundred Wards Tower.

Certainly, the average Ward Cultivator would not get as many benefits. Lu Ye had performed well and gained massive benefits, which was why he had to bear immense pressure.

Under normal circumstances, after a cultivator passed the tests, he would safely receive the benefits and improve his mastery of the Way of Wards.

The unconscious Ward Cultivator did not seem to have any external injury, but his face was pale. It showed that he had used too much of his Mental Power.

There was no doubt he had acquired benefits that exceeded the limit he could bear, which was why he sprayed out a mouthful of blood and blacked out.

However, after he awakened, his mastery of the Way of Wards would improve tremendously, which was good news for him.

After snapping back to reality, Lu Ye was ready to step into the tower. All of a sudden, some strange fluctuations came from the tower and spread across a long distance like invisible wind.

Outside the tower, all of them stopped what they were doing and looked at the building in surprise.

Someone exclaimed, “There’s resonance! There’s resonance!”

He sounded like a treasure was falling from the sky. Certainly, that was not the case, but the resonance from the tower was good news to these Ward Cultivators, who had been staying there for a long time.

Engulfed in these fluctuations, they could better comprehend the secrets of the Way of Wards. Perhaps they would suddenly understand things they could not grasp in the past, which allowed them to improve their understanding and mastery.

It was not easy to evoke the tower’s resonance. One had to get excellent results in the tower to achieve that.

When Lu Ye was in the Heavenly Derivative Sect, he repeatedly evoked the tower’s resonance, which helped nearby Ward Cultivators gain massive benefits.

It could be said that after he left the tower, the low-level disciples of the Heavenly Derivative Sect saw their Way of Wards improving significantly. It was expected that in ten to 20 years, the overall heritage of the Sect would be increased considerably.

The resonance was the reason many Ward Cultivators had been staying around the tower all year round. First of all, they were getting prepared to enter the tower. Secondly, they were waiting for such resonance to get some benefits out of it.

However, it was not easy to evoke the tower’s resonance. Many cultivators would enter the tower every day, but resonance would only take place every three to five months. To the cultivators around the tower, resonance was a rare experience, and they might not witness it for a long time to come.

Therefore, the moment they felt the mysterious fluctuations coming from the tower, they closed their eyes and tried to comprehend the secrets of it.

Even Lu Ye stopped in his tracks. At that moment, he could feel that his mind had cleared up significantly as knowledge about the Way of Wards undulated in his mind. Things that he thought he had fully grasped in the past gave him some new insights as he recalled them now.

The fluctuations continued, and all the cultivators were engrossed in it.

An hour later, the mysterious fluctuations disappeared. The cultivators slowly came to their senses and pondered the benefits they had acquired.

Someone was heard laughing just then. It was apparent that the benefits he had gained were massive. The cultivators around him appeared envious.

Although Lu Ye had gained some benefits, they were insignificant. Just like his Soul Power, his mastery of Ward of Wards far exceeded the cultivators in the same Realm. Therefore, such fluctuations were not useful to him.

If he wanted to improve his mastery, he had to enter the tower and get some good results.

There was a stone tablet at the bottom of Hundred Wards Tower in the Heavenly Derivative Sect. The Chief Elder, Bai Qian, speculated that the stone tablet was meant to record the names of those who performed well in the tower so that future generations could look up to those people.

However, Hundred Wards Tower had been divided into three parts, and the one in the Heavenly Derivative Sect was only one of the parts. Therefore, the stone tablet had never been in use.

The one on the Cloud River Battlefield was the middle part of the tower, so there wasn’t any stone tablet. There was only a dark entrance at the bottom that seemed to be connected to an unknown space.

Lu Ye soon arrived at the entrance and entered the building without hesitation.

His vision blurred all of a sudden. It felt similar to the experience of him getting teleported to somewhere else through a Divine Opportunity Column. When he came to his senses, he realised he was in a small space.

He looked around and discovered that it was identical to the experience when he entered the tower in the Heavenly Derivative Sect.

The small space was about the size of a room, and everything looked white with nothing else in sight.

There was a protruding brick on one of the walls.

Based on his experience of entering the tower previously, he stepped forward and placed his hand on the brick. As he exerted some force, the brick sank into the wall.
