Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 2696: Chapter 2691: The Tomb of the Dressed Remains

Is it truly a union of dragon and phoenix?

The Soul Butterfly on Fu Qian’s fingertip was vibrant and lively, yet he felt no excitement about selling it for a good price.

After all, from his previous understanding, aside from its medicinal value, the primary significance of this thing lies in its identical form to the scales on the Dragon King.

Or to be more precise, the fake scales on the Dragon King.

So, this place not only has flowers favored by the First Generation Dark Moon but also butterflies with a deep connection to the scales of the Dragon King appearing after the phoenix is gone?

Combining with the scene observed last time in the Abandoned Prison and speculations about the Night of King Slayer, did the forlorn Dragon King truly hide here in the end?

Undoubtedly, it’s a major discovery.

Moreover, not just the flowers or butterflies here, both easily invoke associations with the place where Liliyana concealed herself, a structure soaked in corrupt flesh.

It seems it’s not an isolated instance; the entire God’s Burial Ground appears to be affected, with frequent occurrences of joint burial.

Another indicator supporting this judgment is that the Doomsday Melody heard before is audible here as well.

In summary, now comes the question, if the Dragon King is here—then where is the Dragon King?

At a glance, there’s no sign of anything.

Even the Abandonment King who once angered Him personally visits, appears tranquil, without any reaction.

...

The Dragon King must have completely decayed here, unable to maintain his former appearance?

Honestly, it’s a rather straightforward explanation.

After all, in various myths and legends, there’s always a story of blood, bones, skin, and hairs transforming into mountains, rivers, lakes, and seas.

However, when taking into account some prior manifestations, there still seem to be contradictions.

For instance, last time the roar was full of momentum, although the emotional state might be somewhat off, it didn’t really seem like something fully decomposed.

Additionally, during the Battle at Dragon Peak, the Dragon King was not only considering developing new Oath Takers but also designing the elimination of traitors.

No matter what form currently exists, the Dragon King always maintains some semblance of subjective initiative.

There surely can’t be the case that he recently encountered some unforeseen incident?

Not just the Lord of Father’s Amnion, this time the Night Watchman made a decisive move, boldly finishing off even roles with residual blood?

Is this even the reason for the unified background music within this Bone Burial Ground?

If this is truly the case, then my efforts in stirring the situation seem to have gone a bit too far.

With a soft sigh, Fu Qian neither boasted nor felt any unstable joy.

He spread his fingers wide, letting the one-winged butterfly fly out.

The same question discussed before remains, what is the core reliance for the Superior Beings to return time and again?

After all, it is hard to imagine the Night Watchman managing to completely kill off the Dragon King.

This group within the Burial Ground seems to lack much resistance at all, and the Night Watchman clearly remains wary of them.

If such a once-and-for-all method truly exists, it seems there would be no reason for it previously unused.

In conclusion, if the Night Watchman indeed moved against the Dragon King, it for sure wouldn’t be good for myself.

Not only unable to reminisce with the Dragon King, but after some rest and recuperation, the old fellow might still regain activity—though regretfully, it appears he did act.

The freed Soul Butterfly, evidently deterred by previous experiences, decided not to gather flowers and instead staggered and fluttered into the distance.

Fu Qian silently followed the entire way and, at a certain moment, successfully discovered yet another spectacle.

...

The Dragon King is not truly a dragon; the scales on him are merely fine attire he crafted.

Then if the Dragon King died, what would happen to this attire?

Fu Qian sensed there might be an answer right before his eyes.

The butterfly that regained its freedom had already flown further away, but Fu Qian did not continue the pursuit; instead, he bent down, picking up something once again from the bloody mire.

Semi-transparent, with sharp and extreme lines, weightless nearly, at the moment of touching it, it still seemed to struggle.

Indeed, it’s another Soul Butterfly.

Before being rescued, just like the decomposing Phoenix Feather, it was entangled and soaked in the rushing bloody mire.

By comparison, perhaps what stands out is its vitality; the decay remains only on the surface and hasn’t penetrated deeply.

Put simply, it’s like it just fell in.

As for the one seen before, it seems to have had relatively better luck, managing to struggle out on its own.

No doubt, the one plucked out here is not an isolated example.

Casually releasing the second soul butterfly, Fu Qian looked around.

In this seemingly serene area, there remains a vast cluster of fallen butterflies, akin to a giant hatchery.

With the previously freed pair, they have joined the flock fluttering mid-air.

One can say, considering the phoenix he had seen before, this scene isn’t too difficult to grasp—

The Dragon King also perished here; the sole false thing upon him transformed into the lone symbolic remains, slowly being engulfed by decay.

Even within the traces of soul butterflies fluttering upon the lake, one can faintly discern the outline of Giant Dragon wings.

...

Did the Night Watchman truly deal a fatal blow?

Certain feelings of déjà vu are so powerful, forcing one to reflect on the aforementioned issue.

Is it truly due to the Night Watchman conducting a major cleanse, resulting in the turmoil within the Burial Ground?

And the Dragon King, barely supported to begin with, this time had his entire skin and bones obliterated, leaving only the stripped attire?

Additionally, it’s worth noting that the form made by the fluttering soul butterflies even shares some semblance with the Dragon King’s illusion observed on the Golden Throne.

Such as, being unable to see its physical form, using hints of scales along the body to subtly outline the contours.

Moreover, just nearby, the same crimson blooms are visible.

So truly, was it still a step too late?

...

Did the Dragon King, after persisting for so long, ultimately fail to await an old friend’s arrival?

A certain plausible situation no doubt sounds mournful.

Even under such regrettable circumstances, I feel almost inappropriate to perform even a brief tribute.

During this time, Fu Qian noticed more than a single lineworm subtly swimming about.

Perhaps guided by their carrion-feeding nature, their density here is evidently much higher.

Along with the kind resembling a detector, their numbers should be more concentrated.

Theoretically, to avoid having the Night Watchman labor once more, I ought to withdraw swiftly—but only seemingly ought to.

At that moment, Fu Qian chuckled coldly.

A real man knows what to do and what not to do. An old friend’s bones have barely cooled; even if it’s a dragon’s lair or a tiger’s den, even if there’s no longer an opportunity for an extended chat, don’t think of pushing me back by a single step.

With a light leap, Fu Qian’s body landed atop a not-too-high protrusion.

And overlooking this massacre site, he again undid the Eldest Son’s Perspective, placing it upon his face.

Oh Dragon King, don’t depart, Abandonment came late indeed!
