Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 2668: Chapter 2663: The Eight Malicious Women (39)

The cars are still there, both of them.

But unfortunately, the cones are still there too, and the checkpoint remains sealed.

The only pleasing change, perhaps, is that the booth is no longer empty.

A slightly plump middle-aged man is lazily leaning inside, as if he just returned from lunch.

Undoubtedly, this is the only character so far in this mental space that looks like a local staff member.

Although his physique isn’t the healthiest, his professionalism is evident, as Fu Qian and the others are still a distance away, yet he appears quietly alert.

Even without sitting upright, he is already squinting over.

”Local?”

No immediate response to Su Gao’s question, Fu Qian confirmed the man’s identity with her.

”Local, he should be here constantly.”

Sure enough, Su Gao was rather certain about this, indicating that he was an appointed staff member.

”But he wasn’t here earlier.”

Fu Qian recalled the scene from his last visit.

”It should have something to do with our driver.”

Deservingly so, being the sharpest sword, Su Gao boldly made a judgment directly pointing at Chief Yuan.

”What do you mean?”

The leap was somewhat large, and she gave no deduction process, leaving Fu Qian curious.

”When we left, she did something special.”

Not adding false accusations, Su Gao directly signaled that she saw something.

When leaving...

”Seems reasonable.”

Regaining some strength, Fu Qian nodded slightly.

If this only NPC left due to external influence, then it was almost certainly done by one of those special guests.

Assuming these people came to prevent Professor Fu from being taken to the Sanctuary, then trying to seal this checkpoint was indeed quite a prudent action.

With Su Gao successfully escaping the Dark Holy Hall with him, while others were stuck there, if Yuan Shan performed a special act without targeting the duo, there was a valid reason to suspect she might have exerted influence to restore the checkpoint’s function.

Considering Su Gao’s insight, coupled with the final state of the thoughts at the Dark Holy Hall, Fu Qian remained confident in her judgment.

Moreover, starting from this point, Yuan Shan’s consistently ambiguous stance seemed suddenly reasonable.

Not just cooperating with Wen Li, it seemed she was playing the role of a behind-the-scenes manipulator.

On one hand aiding Wen Li’s actions to capture and bring in prisoners, on the other utilizing unknown means, ensuring the checkpoint was thoroughly impassable.

Ultimately adopting the role of the driver, constantly staying beside key figure Professor Fu, maximizing control of the situation.

Indeed, evidence indicated this preparation was not overthought.

On the way to the checkpoint alone, they continuously boarded two suspicious characters.

If the checkpoint had no staff on duty, it was hard to imagine what chaos might ensue here.

”Let me go chat for a bit first.”

Further clarifying the incident’s context, Fu Qian, amidst appreciating everyone’s efforts, without any delay, instructed Su Gao to take him directly to the checkpoint.

Regardless, figuring out a way through might require additional thinking, but at least someone was on duty now.

...

”Pedestrians don’t need to be checked.”

Su Gao’s execution ability was undeniably strong, in a blink, she was already assisting Mr. Fu Sr. to the booth.

Throughout the process, the extent to which the staff’s eyes opened was almost inversely proportional to the remaining distance.

The moment they were close enough, without waiting to be asked, he directly threw out a sentence.

How nice? Though being exempt from checks seemed useless simultaneously.

”Thanks for the reminder, so what are you checking?”

Fu Qian briefly sighed and casually chatted.

”Smugglers.”

It was reassuring that while the staff showed no expression on his face, he answered the question straightforwardly without beating around the bush.

Though this didn’t affect the abstraction of his answer.

Checking for intercepting smugglers, Fu Qian remarked this was something he had heard often.

But coupling it with the regulation to not check pedestrians added a brainless touch.

It can only be said this place truly deserves to be a mental space, defying common logic.

”So usually they’d hide in cars?”

Without pointing out the logical issues, Fu Qian gestured towards the two parked cars.

”Almost certainly, it’s the only mode of transportation.”

Indeed, with firm tone, while speaking, the staff grabbed his curly hair, assessing Fu Qian up and down.

”Then generally, what do you rely on for identification? ID documents?”

With somewhat intense gaze, despite this, Fu Qian didn’t feel the other was being impolite with an appearance of casual observation, remaining curious.

Not to mention the staff, at this moment his look would likely garner a high return rate if he walked down the street.

Leaving the Dark Holy Hall doesn’t mean all wounds are healed, like those various organs exposed.

All the way here, classmate Su Gao even helped cover his chest throughout, an action that was heartwarming.

”How could it be, there’s nothing like that here.”

The staff snorted, seemingly disdainful of the method Fu Qian mentioned.

”Eyes.”

Not waiting for Fu Qian to say more, he already gestured at his face with two fingers.

”That’s the standard, just one look, and I can tell if it’s a legitimate personnel.”

How imposing?

Fu Qian briefly listened in admiration, even bowed his head to inspect his body.

”Like you.”

And this movement indeed triggered a reaction, the staff directly used him as an example.

”From the first glance, I found you suspicious.”

...

Just saying this checkpoint wasn’t easy to pass.

It all seemed as if he had voluntarily walked into the line of fire, fortunately for Fu Qian, he never hoped this place was too friendly, maintaining a steady demeanor.

”Is that so? What’s suspicious about me?”

Next moment, still wearing an innocent face, he confirmed why he didn’t enjoy equal treatment.

”The smell seems unusual.”

The staff’s reply once again defined abstraction.

Just emphasizing visual acumen, he subtly suggested the judgment was based on scent.

”Moreover, the item in your hand, where did you steal it from?”

Not waiting for Fu Qian to deny, he already pointed at Fu Qian’s embrace, escalating the matter to a criminal level.

...It truly was.

The accusation was undoubtedly harsh, but as Fu Qian followed the direction, he found it impossible to refute.

It was a wholly black candle holder, with only a few remnants of wax at the top.

Correct, it was the one from the Dark Holy Hall, given back to him by Wen Li after she blew it out.

Given his relatively frail body, other items were too heavy, he casually took this along when leaving.
