Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 2562: Chapter 2557: It’s Calling

Is the sun far away.

Not far.

If there is a sun in your heart, how could the sun be far.

The scene of the twin suns vying for brilliance high in the sky in the last Engraving Wisdom is still vivid before his eyes.

He didn’t know whether that great power could let the person involved retain a sliver more clarity in their eyes in an unimaginable crisis.

Full of hope for his old colleague, Fu Qian did not rigidly carry out a so‑called carpet search, but instead guided Ah Fei forward along a very clear path.

Mainly, although he had already gone through one round of returns and exchanges, the latter had more than lived up to the cost and had already proved his own worth.

Not only truly maimed in body yet strong in will, with a wisp of killing intent that refused to disperse.

His perception was even somewhat keen, easily stained by Evil Demons and ghouls.

With just a casual bit of guidance, he was already perfectly matched to the current situation; not making good use of him would be far too wasteful—the laboratory still existed, after all.

The way there was not easy, but they still reached their destination quickly.

For now it did indeed look as though this structure had severely Withered; the overall framework was still there, but many parts had already collapsed, and the general impression was only slightly better than the time they ran into the Brain Jellyfish.

However, though there had been many obstacles along the way, the upside was that they had not encountered any living obstacles.

The burlap dolls were indeed pure of heart; once frightened off they really did flee clutching their heads, with no intention of sneaking back for another look.

In short, after a slight detour, the two of them arrived at the place in their memories, where the last supernova had flared.

Judging from the surrounding scene, the place was still fairly well preserved, to the point that the main door remained tightly shut.

”It’s calling.”

Just as Fu Qian was giving his commentary, Ah Fei actually spoke up first, his voice hoarse and his tone mysterious.

Given their prior experiences, it was easy to think of one possibility: just like the children’s laughter, their target had taken the initiative to greet him first.

Yet when he turned his head to look, he felt at once that this was not the case.

The Hunter, whose complexion had improved slightly from before, at that moment was not even looking at the door blocking their path, but staring straight at the alien‑shaped Rapier in his hand.

His other hand was even gently stroking it, as though tilting his head to listen, fully embodying an ethereal air.

Yes, after he took his hand away from the wound to stop the bleeding, he had never put it back.

As for why his blood hadn’t run dry yet?

Many things have both advantages and disadvantages; at this moment that Stardust Curse spreading from his back had already covered more than half his body.

The direct result was that his movements were even more sluggish, his whole person like a sleepwalker.

His consciousness was also half‑asleep, half‑awake, with the feeling that his mind cut out every few seconds.

But at the same time, the benefit was that his flesh seemed to have fallen asleep as well, as if life itself was draining away more slowly.

All in all, a confluence of causes had together produced this scene full of ”style.”

”Is there any chance it’s just that your heart is not pure?”

But when it came to style, how could the Grand Fate Ming Emperor fall short?

With a light sigh, the next moment Fu Qian’s gaze also grew deep, speaking in riddles.

”Not pure...”

In this state, Ah Fei really was too suited to this kind of conversation.

”So it actually isn’t calling?”

He sounded as though he found nothing unreasonable there; quietly repeating the words, he even managed to produce a simple, logical interpretation.

”No, as long as you think it’s calling, then it is calling.”

Fu Qian shook his head and continued his ”enlightenment.”

”It’s just—so noisy!”

Unfortunately there is always someone to spoil the mood; their dialogue brimming with Zen flavor was suddenly interrupted by an unexpected voice.

...

The words hit the ground with a clang, force penetrating the wall.

The sound clearly came from behind the door, and the clarity of the diction was such that, even without seeing the speaker, one could imagine the sheer fullness of his lungs.

Was the sun truly protecting His believers?

Fu Qian realized that voice even sounded familiar to him; it actually was the same person who had shouted ”Unbearable Wheel” earlier.

The place was right, and even the person, from the sound of him, seemed perfectly fine.

Up to now, the researchers they had encountered were either crawling all over the floor or turned into mounts; their condition was unquestionably terrible.

This stark contrast made one immediately think that faith really worked.

Brother Apostle’s decision to abandon academia and convert had been the right one.

”...There’s someone behind.”

While Fu Qian was reminiscing about his old comrade, Ah Fei had clearly also heard the voice and, with some effort, computed a result.

This seemingly meaningless sentence in fact all but confirmed the earlier guess—that what he was talking about really was the sword calling.

”Alas... if you believe it’s there, then it’s there; if you believe it’s not, then it’s not.”

But at that moment Fu Qian shook his head; he couldn’t bear to see him get distracted at such a crucial moment and miss his chance.

”So still... not pure.”

Fortunately, he did seem to have some measure of spiritual root; Ah Fei instantly withdrew his attention from the noise, lowering his head and muttering to himself.

Bang!

Unfortunately, the path to enlightenment is crowded with Heart Demons; after only a few seconds of contemplation, an even louder sound came to interrupt.

”You two... are you ever going to be done.”

At that moment the tightly closed door even opened of its own accord; the racket it made and the voice from within together conveyed genuine irritability.

...

Indeed, this was clearly a victory of fashion value.

Fu Qian was certainly not suddenly seized by a burst of Zen; he was merely trying to match the posture of the one behind the door.

As a local staff member, and one whose mind seemed to still be clear, there was no way he could have failed to notice people walking up to the door.

Yet while he and Brother Ah Fei stood outside, discussing the Dao for quite some time, the other party had remained utterly motionless.

From this alone one could sense how reserved their target for this visit was.

Then, at some point, he finally couldn’t hold back and shouted at them in anger, only to fall completely silent again—a textbook display of ”playing hard to get.”

In view of this, Fu Qian decisively made his own behavior even more excessive, continuing to ignore him.

The final result was gratifying; the opponent, who lost the battle of patience, actually opened the door himself, skipping even the most basic pleasantries and going straight to denouncing them.

In short, to meet with three parts animosity already in place—however you looked at it, that was a pretty good icebreaker.

At this moment, he dropped the cold‑shoulder act; Fu Qian turned his head and looked through the open door, and saw a figure radiating heroic bearing.

He wore the same researcher’s robe, his build not exactly burly but standing straight and tall.

Just as he had imagined, this man had not undergone any of the deformations the others had.

What moved him even more was that this was, so far, the first person who, besides wearing the uniform, also remembered to wear a hat.

It was just that the style was a bit too grotesque—was this why the rest of them were out of uniform?

As Fu Qian studied the Sun Apostle’s headgear, he felt he understood why the others failed to comply with the dress code.

Made of the same material as his clothes but completely different in style, it was a hood that wrapped his head all the way down to his neck.

The whole thing was absurdly large, making his head look a bit like a swollen light bulb.

And on the surface of this bulb, there were even familiar silver dots and lines, turning over and tracing out a human face.
