Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 2560: Chapter 2555: Children

Needle Witch’s props really have a sinister quality, it feels like there’s never been anything that resembles the mortal world.

Seeing the second burlap doll behaving even more outrageously, appearing instantly to straddle the researcher’s head as a driver, Fu Qian was momentarily flooded with memories.

Chief Yuan once introduced someone in the Second Phase who excelled in curses, puppetry, and parasitic techniques.

Although the person hasn’t appeared yet, all these skills had already been much admired.

Of course, one shouldn’t judge people with preconceived notions.

Compared to discovering the traces before me and immediately thinking Needle Witch is doing something nefarious here, it’s obviously more probable she, as the Night Watchman’s special agent, came to deal with the Academy’s Exploration Team incidents.

Fu Qian even thought he completely understood why she was entrusted with such responsibilities—being one of the best at spatial transference.

Not only is she already top-tier in combat strength, but also handling unexpected events on the field must be much more convenient.

A lot of tasks can even be handled by puppet dolls, potentially better resisting various contaminations.

Overall, seeing these things here seemed normal to Fu Qian, indirectly proving that the Night Watchman had conducted emergency procedures.

Of course, once entering Engraving Wisdom, the specific manifestations are no longer up to oneself.

Even someone as low-key as Lord Rainbow of Radiance suspectedly ended up being hard-installed with a follower, having no choice but to use the sun as a disguise.

In comparison, the sight of puppets pulling strings on real people isn’t that far off from their true nature.

The most bizarre possibility might be that they’ve bred a brood here.

Ah Fei, relying on a gamble of a last-resort strike, succeeded in breaking the deadlock, efficiently eliminating one, and now another appears, flaunting, while beforehand, there was also the sound of a bunch of children.

This entity could easily be imagined as being like cockroaches here, infesting many of the researchers’ remains.

In summary, the situation remains dire; Ah Fei is far from being done here.

Ding—

No even extra breath can be taken. Amid the strange noises, there was a research personnel, already controlled, bending over to pull out two remarkably long weapons from the rubble.

...

They were clearly some kind of experimental equipment. The only sharp parts were at the tips, and they had nothing to do with spears or javelins; balance adjustments were completely out of the question.

However, they were incredibly long.

With his already brawny body and a length comparable to clotheslines, the attack range defies description.

Sss—

Even the movement is swift.

The controlled flesh paid no mind to risks like sprains, after lunging forward with a most unhuman action, the deadly weapon in hand is already impatiently thrusting forward.

Got it, the Star Dust Spear is still less practical than a physical spear.

Naturally, keeping a distance and continuing as an observer, Fu Qian tried to understand the choice of the second doll.

Swift as the wind.

It seems there are reasons for actively abandoning the long-range advantage, even solely in body technique, the puppet doesn’t feel outmatched.

Not to mention, it had already landed one hit, and the unusual marks on the wound were already becoming quite pronounced.

From Ah Fei’s reaction, it’s clear it’s not just a visual effect. The whole person remained silent, even the twitching at the wound seemed to be slowing—he was tired.

Indeed, even though appearances had drastically changed, the various manifestations from that body were still very familiar to Fu Qian.

Ah Fei looked obviously as if he was about to fall asleep, struggling fiercely against this sensation.

Napping in a life-or-death moment is a major taboo; from this perspective, the sneak attack piercing the back earlier was even more insidious than poison.

Moreover, as everyone knows, as time passes, resisting drowsiness becomes exponentially more difficult.

Hiss—

Soon another wound was inflicted upon Ah Fei.

Even if he hadn’t fallen asleep, he had become dulled, unable to completely avoid it.

Even attempting to close the distance and neutralize the opponent’s reach advantage was unsuccessful.

The opponent’s unhuman actions continued; they seemed foolish and brutish, but swung the two weapons in hand like an impenetrable net, leaving one with almost no option but to flee.

The situation once again reached a stalemate, and Ah Fei’s movements continued to slow, looking rather grim.

This wasn’t even the worst—

Amid the familiar sound of hinges turning, Fu Qian diverted his gaze from the battlefield to look further away, discovering more than one door slowly opening.

As said earlier, there could be a group of these things.

Hee hee—

Hee hee hee—

Indeed, there’s a group.

Like a choreographed performance, behind every door swinging open, that familiar laughter followed.

...

Just like roaches, and they’re in double-digits now.

In the blink of an eye, this dark place transformed into a sea of mirth.

Filled with childish laughter, rising and falling, as if encircling to witness a performance.

As for the various forms of steeds beneath them, they further heightened the festive atmosphere.

While experiencing this joyful harmonic environment, Fu Qian casually counted the numbers.

It turned out to be a remarkable breeding rate, a dozen identical burlap dolls, with laughter exactly the same.

For Ah Fei, this is clearly bad news.

Because that means the hostility towards him is likely undifferentiated, not springing into action just now only because they were far away.

Still, seeing the good in everything is essential, and Ah Fei seemed, for the time being, too occupied to worry about this issue.

Hiss—

Amid subtle yet abnormal sounds, more blood was already splashing from him.

However, only a small part of that is due to being struck; most resulted from old wounds.

It wasn’t from intense movement tearing open the stitches, but voluntarily released by the hand which previously transformed into an iron claw.

The result was that the messily held mass of flesh instantly became unrecognizable, splattering blood even reaching the opponent.

In this grotesque scene, Ah Fei’s actions changed dramatically, without any hint of dodging any longer.

Wounds, confinement, curses...all reduced to trivialities.

Once more the man followed his blade, slashing towards the doll atop the puppet’s head.

...

Well done, very decisive.

Somewhat representing a reckless determination, the embodiment of a do-or-die effort.

But as a nearby evil god spectator, Fu Qian naturally wouldn’t interpret it so superficially.

That strike was indeed very swift, objectively speaking, even for an agility-focused Ah Fei, it was almost peak performance.

Therefore, managing such a move under a curse was no simple task.

This was likely why he actively abandoned maintaining the wound—it seemed like he was using the stimulus to combat sluggishness.

Of course, thinking or executing this might be considered relatively unremarkable.

The real difficulty, in fact, lay in making the decision: at that moment, to swing that strike.

Disregarding consequences, delivering that strike to separate the second doll’s head from its shoulders.
