Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 2561: Chapter 2556: Changing Blades

What color is blood?

A rag doll doesn’t have blood, how does it know the color of blood—oh, it knows.

Gazing at Brother Ah Fei’s heroic figure, Fu Qian was not surprised by the effect of this strike.

The almost nonexistent neck of the No. 2 rag doll was precisely severed at that moment.

And even as the head flew and rolled away, the dark red stuffing could be seen at the cut.

Honestly, this scene is more sinister than if real blood were to gush out.

Even this wickedness didn’t last long; by the time it hit the floor, the blood-like color had completely faded, leaving no trace.

The reason—of course, it’s the Power of Calamity.

Those with bad luck cannot laugh.

At the moment of being slain, the puppet controlled by the rag doll lost all reaction, its entire body carried by the inertia of its movements, crashing to the ground, crushing the remaining half of the doll beneath it.

Achieving such astonishing results, the primary reason naturally lies in Ah Fei’s unyielding quick strike, and secondly, the blade’s Catastrophe Blessing is a crucial factor.

Many things aren’t killed just by slicing them open.

The rag doll wasn’t necessarily so fragile; the reason the previous one could also be slain in a single strike is because it wasn’t an ordinary knife.

A top hunter’s familiarity with tools is merely preliminary; there needs to be a sense of destruction.

Perhaps it’s uncertain if the nearby attendant imbued the broken knife with special powers, but Ah Fei can clearly sense its ability to bring about easier death.

Without confidence in this aspect, the earlier strike would be no different from impotent rage.

Now, Fu Qian is very sure that the final trace of Catastrophe Blessing on the knife has been completely consumed.

Besides assisting Ah Fei in severing the rag doll’s life force, the calamity’s erosion even implicates symbolic illusions, such as the red of ”blood.”

In short, in front of the tyrant’s gift, these absurd things indeed have no power to resist.

Of course, despite this, the situation still seems far from optimistic.

There are still double digits of rag dolls left, not to mention that after Ah Fei’s strike, his condition is not good.

The remaining strength barely allows him to pose defensively, silently facing the spectators.

The latter’s laughter also stopped, making the atmosphere more suffocating amidst the heavy crowd.

Clang—

Fortunately, this tension didn’t last long; at some point, a strange sound broke the deathly silence, sounding like something dropping to the ground, coming from the crowd.

And following the sound, you could spot its source—a researcher who, at that moment, lost all murderous intent and turned to run.

Clang...

Thunk...

This series of changes seemed to press a certain switch, followed by more disorderly thuds hitting the ground, along with fleeing footsteps.

The originally large crowd suddenly abandoned their weapons, opting for escape as the best strategy.

If not for their still mechanical, stiff running, and the rag dolls looking like they desperately want to hide in their pants, one might suspect they’ve regained freedom in the chaos.

At this point, it’s only understood that the dolls joining the fun are scared, intending to run away and hide.

Anyhow, it’s a twist of fate; hunter Ah Fei seems yet again favored by destiny.

Clank—

Another lethal weapon dropped, but much lighter this time.

Having narrowly escaped death, Ah Fei slowly rested the broken knife on the ground, supporting himself to sit down, then turned his head in almost the most effortless way toward here.

”Well done, little friend. Turns out, their courage is quite small.”

And Fu Qian gave a smiling commendation.

Rarely are there fortunate events without reason; this was the result of hard effort.

...

As mentioned earlier, the true difficulty lies in having the courage to decide on that strike.

In the midst of being besieged, the disparity in strength has long reached a level of despair.

In this situation, thinking about slaying all rag dolls head-on is generally what fanatics do, not the quality of a professional hunter.

Apart from realizing the broken knife remains invincible, Ah Fei clearly perceived another thing, that these dolls might truly be ”dolls.”

Perhaps they are vicious and sinister, but actually not very intelligent.

The initial coordinated attack was indeed beautiful, but upon reflection, it’s closer to a typical prank tactic.

And after slaying the first one, the second actually showed up for melee combat, which felt like a reactive instability to people.

Whereby advantages in tactics didn’t match having the winning hand; clearly, continuing with long-range bait would only be a matter of time.

Additionally, if they were a bit smarter, they wouldn’t ignore the other person nearby, thinking as long as it’s not provoked, it could freely carry out its activities...

In short, not only did their voice sound young, but their behavior patterns carried an animal-like innocence.

For a hunter swinging between life and death, if he doesn’t possess even a shred of intuition, then don’t long for any kind of luck.

And Ah Fei proved himself once more; the evidence lies in his series of actions just now, where one was very abnormal.

That is, previously evading and not attacking, dragged into other dolls surrounding him, he finally made up his mind to risk his life.

Even street thugs know to quickly deal with lone targets—unless his goal was precisely to attract spectators.

Thereby displaying his merciless determination, the power to kill in one strike, as conspicuously as possible to all opponents, making them scatter like frightened animals.

It’s hard to say how likely this is to succeed, but the instinctive quality of combat seems to make him aware of that slim chance.

Ugh...

Even facing undeserved praise, up until now Ah Fei hasn’t denied it, merely casting his gaze at a weapon wheel so overtly flaunting, letting a strange sounds escape his throat.

Sure enough, he hasn’t given up yet.

”Which one would you like?”

The mastermind behind the curtain naturally was pleased to witness this, and Fu Qian generously inquired, proactively bringing up the previous mention of the no-reason exchange.

After fighting against the crowd, the saw-toothed blade clearly is no longer fit for use.

”Hmm...”

Unfortunately, for Ah Fei, choosing still seemed a troublesome task, his gaze lingering without decision.

”Let’s go with this one.”

In response, Fu Qian even offered consultation service, with one tentacle swaying, handing it directly over.

With an exaggerated curve, seemingly flowing metal all over, it was a peculiarly shaped sword.

Even under the reflection from flames, the needle-thin blade seemed to be flowing.

”...Where are we heading next?”

Ah Fei, without reservation, finally set down the broken knife, remembering to inquire about the plan.

”To try sunbathing.”

And Fu Qian had clearly thought it through, looking toward the direction of the laboratory where the supernova was last released.
