Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 2495: Chapter 2490: Yasui’s Terms

Secret base? And a secret one at that? It feels quite mystique-like.

Is it really necessary, though?

Mr. Laurie wasn’t just bringing us to tour an office building; this place actually hides Siren’s people.

Though I trust the Greedy Worms wouldn’t joke about such matters, Fu Qian still found this move a bit over-the-top.

Moore isn’t a place dominated solely by Yasui, nor is there overbearing control by the Night Watchman. Even the Siren’s ships are strutting around over there, so why the need for a secret base?

A proper Transcendent stuck here clocking in with office workers, perhaps even fighting for a public restroom — is that really necessary?

”Oh? What business are they mainly in?”

Rather than questioning, Fu Qian nodded slightly, even curiously asking about the business scope.

”...It seems like logistics and security.”

The old man didn’t seem to be much of a businessman, hesitating for a moment to answer, while the Tooth Throat Lay Buddhist beside him frowned in recollection.

As we spoke, he specifically led the three of them to a secluded corner.

These two businesses together... an escort agency?

The span is quite large, but as a business professional himself, Fu Qian did not blindly question it. Instead, he quickly found a compatible model.

You have to admit, that aura instantly rose.

”Not bad, a fitting name could be ’Zhenyuan’.”

The next moment, not only did he give a compliment, Fu Qian even guessed the business registration name.

”No... and it seems they’ve never done business.”

Every sentence seemed to be getting more outrageous, and finally Tooth Throat Lay Buddhist couldn’t bear it, actively chiming in with an explanation.

”The reason this place is special is that, apart from that ship, nearly all of Siren’s personnel have officially withdrawn from Moore. It seems only they have stayed put.”

...

When phrased like that, it becomes much more intriguing.

As a sea dominator, how could Siren not have business here; it’s just as strange to only run an escort agency.

So, originally there was quite a bit of business, but they’ve all left except for this one?

Tooth Throat Lay Buddhist’s words clearly made the logic seem smoother.

Of course, this also brings up a bigger question—why did they leave?

The ship is happily there, yet all the business operations were entirely abandoned?

It’s akin to Yasui, not wanting to see Sorondir succeed, so assembling a bunch of mercenaries to wreak havoc, a surprisingly abstract connection.

However, as they say, there’s no such thing as coincidence without reason. Given they are both purely profit-driven organizations, it raises more curiosity about what they actually know about Moore.

”What about Yasui?”

For a moment, Fu Qian shifted focus back onto Siren’s competitors.

”They’ve also withdrawn.”

This time Laurie answered. Faced with Tooth Throat Lay Buddhist’s questioning look, although unsure if Fu Qian was asking rhetorically, he still didn’t shirk responsibility.

”And from what it appears, more thoroughly, not even leaving an underground base like this one.”

So decisive?

Fu Qian subtly nodded, sensing a murderous aura.

”But they left you guys here.”

...

Two conflicting organizations bizarrely withdrawing at the same time.

Yet, behind this decisiveness, ties are not severed.

One seeks opportunities ostentatiously, the other opts for an unreliable approach to sabotage...

Why did it suddenly feel like a tragedy of star-crossed lovers?

Though strange words swirled in his mind, Fu Qian kept smiling, quietly observing the trio of Laurie.

”What we need to do when necessary is against this hidden base’s...”

Not disappointing, in Tooth Throat Lay Buddhist’s somewhat helpless gaze, Laurie hesitated only briefly before revealing the mercenary’s tasks.

”They were originally very well-hidden, and we wouldn’t have found it ourselves; it was information provided by Yasui.”

So that’s how it is.

Someone is monitoring Sorondir’s movements, but the actual operations are here.

When looking at it this way, while Ji Yin’s division is dangerous, it’s not as outlandish.

And indeed, Tooth Throat Lay Buddhist wasn’t slacking off, handling important tasks as well.

It’s not like Yasui just got some weird ideas, the Greedy Worms wouldn’t necessarily go insane with them.

If Laurie were really to face Sorondir head-on, the first instinct would probably be to run as far as possible.

Just then, many things began to clear up for Fu Qian.

Additionally, though Laurie had a slightly conflicted expression while disclosing this, looking a bit like he was violating a confidentiality agreement, Fu Qian didn’t feel he was very coerced.

Ji Yin couldn’t be found, so they chose to bring key partners over here. The old man’s purpose couldn’t just be to pay a courtesy visit to Tooth Throat Lay Buddhist; certain resolutions must have been made long before.

”Keep talking.”

But sometimes gestures needed to be made, so Fu Qian cooperated with a cold smile, full of pressure.

”All of them are Transcendents, but their rankings aren’t high, so it’s quite manageable.”

Sure enough, Laurie glanced at the remaining two, sighing ”regretfully,” then continued.

”And what we need to do is not kill them but to release something targeting them.”

Not forgetting to justify his actions, emphasizing that it doesn’t involve civilian casualties.

”But whether they die afterward is another matter?”

Unfortunately, as an expert in wordplay, Professor Fu would not be easily misled, merely coldly laughing as he continued.

...

At that moment, Laurie’s trio fell into silence.

Being in the mix, some things naturally aren’t that naïve, and they clearly didn’t expect to easily bluff the person before them.

”It’s alright; I roughly understand. So, your job is to monitor Sorondir’s movements. Once things become abnormal, you act over here and then withdraw?”

Fortunately, Fu Qian didn’t dwell on it, nor on the specifics of what’s to be released.

”Yes, because what’s needed is clear, we can do our best to stay hidden... and even if nothing changes on Siren’s side within half a month, we can receive the rest of the payment and leave.”

An invisible sense of measure undoubtedly made one feel warm, prompting Laurie to readily confirm.

”But Ji Yin’s current situation makes it feel like the whole thing is out of control, disappearing without a trace, life or death unknown—”

”He should be fine.”

Though interrupted casually by Fu Qian.

Even if the shared perception was cut off, the life link remains, so Mr. Li Sr. and the others certainly know Ji Yin isn’t dead.

”Let’s pay a visit, shall we?”

However, without dwelling on such little ploys, Fu Qian pointed upstairs the next moment, issuing a directive for the first time.
