Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

Chapter 381: A Lie Exposed

Facing Lin Yuʼs inquiry, Old Zheng didnʼt hold back at all, even showing a hint of excitement.

”Whoa, sharp as ever, Director.”

”Since youʼve taken the initiative to ask... itʼs time to give you a proper rundown starting from the Ten Realms.”

Lin Yu cut Old Zheng off. ”No time for that right now.”

”Donʼt worry, my teaching skills are top-notch. I can explain it clearly in just a few sentences,” Old Zheng said hastily. ”But this stuff canʼt be explained properly if itʼs not all connected.”

”Anyway, the seven currently known realms of the Ten Realms are: Pure Abyss, Misty Islands, Night Valley, Great Wasteland, Prison Mountain, Black Marsh, and lastly, the ʼGray Domainʼ.”

”Among them, Pure Abyss, Misty Islands, and Night Valley are also known as the ʼSoul Tri-Realmsʼ. Most beings inhabiting these places possess abilities to corrupt minds and manipulate souls. Many high-level entities can even influence illusions using soul power, and many lifeforms there donʼt even have physical bodies.”

”Great Wasteland, Prison Mountain, and Black Marsh are collectively called the ʼLife Tri-Realmsʼ. The factions from these three realms are generally more skilled at modifying life, and can even directly manipulate energy and matter...”

”So, a spell originating from the Pure Abyss definitely couldnʼt be something as simple as ʼcreating seawater out of thin airʼ—the seawater from the Pure Abyss itself can be used as a highly potent sedative.”

Lin Yu frowned. ”So that guy was definitely lying, right?”
”No, not entirely. Because the spell that [Lost Heart] can grant him truly couldnʼt allow him to kill someone silently and without leaving a trace,” Old Zheng analyzed. ”However, this is still a loophole... Even though you didnʼt challenge it because you werenʼt sure, shouldnʼt the 『Gambler』 behind you be unaware of this?”

”He should also understand how spells from the ʼPure Abyssʼ work.”

Lin Yu shook his head. ”His abnormality was within my expectations. Once you reach Li Huaʼs position, there are many things to consider. Moreover, Li Hua hasnʼt been completely honest with me.”

”Oh?”

Old Zheng was very curious about where Lin Yu got this opinion.

”『Order』 probably does want to solve the case quickly, but itʼs likely not that urgent. Last night, Twenty reminded me about the reason why the [Super Genetically Modified Radish] was stolen—it was probably taken into a dungeon... Li Hua most likely knows this too.”

Old Zheng deeply agreed. ”Now that you mention it, that makes sense. But why?”

”Maybe itʼs about the 『Diviner』,” Lin Yu said calmly. ”As someone who was present the whole time and saw how I operated in the dungeon, what are your thoughts about me?”

”I think you have limitless potential, kid, and... youʼre practically a monster.”

Old Zheng didnʼt hold back on the praise.

”Right. Thatʼs also what Li Hua, or the highest echelons of 『Order』, think. Regardless of what others think, my performance in the last dungeon was too dazzling. And in their case, unlike you who somewhat understands my trump cards, this might very well be another test and assessment of me,” Lin Yu said carefully. ”Fu Luo calling me over was definitely his own idea, but why they sent Fu Luo over in the first place is something worth pondering.”

”So, next, I not only have to solve the case and reveal the truth, but I also have to make them think theyʼve uncovered some truth about me.”

As he spoke, Lin Yu walked to the bathroom, turned on the faucet, and washed his face.

Water droplets rolled down his cheeks.

Old Zheng caught the implied meaning in Lin Yuʼs words. ”You already know who the murderer is?”

”Just figured it out. Not completely certain, but itʼs ninety percent likely.”

Lin Yu walked back toward the direction of the interrogation room.

”Sorry, Iʼm back... Did I miss anything?”

Inside the room, Chris had already been handcuffed. Li Hua and Good Night stood on either side of him from the corners of the room, seemingly to prevent the lunatic Chris from hurting anyone again.

Fu Luo shrugged. ”Didnʼt miss a thing. The interrogation didnʼt continue after you left.”

Lin Yu pulled out the chair and sat down again. ”Alright, Chris... letʼs continue then.”

”Your self-defense earlier was good, and you even took the chance to ʼfixʼ me a bit, didnʼt you?”

As he spoke, Lin Yu leaned forward slightly.

”But how could a spell from the ʼPure Abyssʼ be as simple as just creating seawater? Youʼre deliberately hiding something... All abilities from the ʼPure Abyssʼ inevitably affect a personʼs soul.”

Even though this was knowledge he had only learned minutes ago, Lin Yu spoke with absolute certainty now, as if it were common knowledge he had always known.

Sure enough, Lin Yuʼs momentum instantly somewhat overwhelmed Chris.

The other man frowned and subconsciously began explaining along Lin Yuʼs line of questioning. ”I just didnʼt explain it in full detail, it doesnʼt count as hiding...”

”Although [Lost Heart] does indeed have soul-related curses, theyʼre far from being capable of killing someone.”

”And the other party was Radish, a 『Third Tier』... Even if heʼs known for not being good at combat, his self-preservation abilities are definitely far stronger than an average playerʼs.”

As Chris spoke, Lin Yu nodded slightly.

”That part probably isnʼt false, but... Chris, that doesnʼt mean youʼre not a suspect.”

”Do the remnants of curse techniques in his soul have anything to do with you?”

Chris shook his head. ”I swear, absolutely not... I never cast any curse on him.”

Hearing his answer, Lin Yu nodded.

”Good, I understand... You can go.”

”I... huh? What?”

Lin Yuʼs casual and abrupt statement caught Chris completely off guard.

He looked somewhat incredulous. ”What?”

”The questioning for you is over. You can leave. And tell Paper Kite to come quickly.”

Lin Yu still spoke calmly, making a gesture of invitation.

Upon hearing Lin Yuʼs words, Li Hua looked up at him, then stepped forward and unlocked Chrisʼs handcuffs.

He and Good Night each took a step back. Chris, looking utterly bewildered, stood up and slowly walked toward the door.

As he was about to leave, he looked back several times at Lin Yu and Li Hua before finally opening the door and exiting.

And right after Chris left.

Good Night and Fu Luo, who had remained silent about Lin Yuʼs sudden decision until now, spoke up simultaneously.

”Sibal, I donʼt get it!”

”Why did you suddenly let him go?”

They hadnʼt questioned Lin Yu out of professional courtesy, but that didnʼt mean they understood his intention.

”Because thereʼs no need to ask anymore.”

Lin Yu said calmly.

Fu Luo frowned. ”Bro, itʼs not just because he made a vow, right...”

”No, itʼs because he lied.”

Lin Yu brought his hand up from under the table, holding a device that was flashing with red light.

”This is my item, the Lie Detector... His last statement just now was false.”

”He has used a curse on Radish.”

Lin Yu placed the device on the table.

Good Night instantly became agitated. ”Sibal, so he is the murderer after all!”

”No. Although he lied, that doesnʼt mean heʼs the murderer.”

Lin Yu said calmly, ”Letʼs wait for 『Paper Kite』 to arrive.”
