Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

Chapter 378: The Prime Suspect

Hundred-Tempered Steel was also politely escorted out of the interrogation meeting room by Lin Yu and Fu Luo.

First, while the playback record wasnʼt a hard alibi, he had at least provided his own reason.

Second...

Lin Yu genuinely felt that a Fengcheng guy who loved watching ”Romantic Princess” would not go assassinate Radish Grandpa.

Even if it were a genuine revenge killing, given this manʼs style, heʼd probably just come out and say ”I did it.”

The fact that he felt ashamed about watching Hong Kong/Taiwan idol romance dramas indicated his values had a relatively straightforward side.

He wouldnʼt conceal a murder he committed for ”revenge.”

Moreover, when mentioning that past ”hatred,” Hundred-Tempered Steelʼs explanation had indeed convinced both Lin Yu and Fu Luo.

”I really was angry back then, a good brother suddenly gone... he was the only one who came out of a dungeon unscathed, how could I not be furious?”

”But, but... after calming down and thinking about it later, this game is just like that, anyone could suddenly disappear.”
”To put it bluntly, all of us managing to survive this long is actually a lucky, low-probability event, so... I gradually came to accept it.”

”Mainly, Grandpa really was a good person.”

Lin Yu judged the credibility of his statement based on the fact that the other party ”didnʼt seem to be acting,” while Fu Luo combined it with some evidence analysis.

”I asked Brother Shan to interview players over in Fengcheng. It seems he did have several interactions with Radish afterward, probably reconciling during those contacts.”

”According to the testimonies we just received, their communication seemed to gradually warm up... there was still friction the first time, but later, while not exactly intimate, it tended toward normalcy.”

”Anyway... the possibility of this guy being a ʼrevenge killerʼ is ruled out—letʼs wait for the next one.”

The next to be interrogated were Bright King and Seagull.

Bright King was a man who didnʼt look very tall, slightly plump with fair skin, and his tone of speech was very gentle.

He claimed to have been holed up in his room clearing mobile game stamina when the incident occurred, another statement that couldnʼt serve as an alibi.

Regarding the cause of Radishʼs death and Radish the person, Bright King also glossed over with phrases like ”not too clear” and ”not too familiar, just heard of him.”

This actually made him somewhat suspicious.

Seagull was a young man who looked a bit clever, roughly in his early twenties, dressed head-to-toe in trendy sportswear, appearing to come from a decent family.

He was quite familiar with Radish and expressed deep regret over Radishʼs death.

He even actively helped sort out the suspicious points of other players under suspicion.

”Let me tell you, you need to be especially careful of Phoenix and Hundred-Tempered Steel, they had grudges with Radish... oh, you already know that? Well, never mind then.”

”And Chris isnʼt a good guy either. This bounty hunter is cold, ruthless, and profit-driven. Itʼs not impossible for Radish Grandpa, being famous for so long, to be targeted for the items in his possession.”

”Iʼm not very familiar with Bright King, but this guy reached a high position in the Huntersʼ Association within three months, so he definitely has some tricks. Seems he also started out as a bounty hunter... so heʼs probably not clean either.”

”As for those two, Lotus and Cassia Seed... Radish complained to me that more and more of the new generation in the Player Mutual Aid Association are going against the organizationʼs founding principles.”

”Many of those players who are nominally there to protect him seem more like ʼspiesʼ planted around him... maybe someone in the Player Mutual Aid Association finds him an eyesore.”

Seagull listed them one by one, and before leaving, he didnʼt forget to add and try to get closer to Lin Yu.

”Oh, by the way, keep me updated on any progress in the investigation, I can help too!”

”And by the way, that May May over there... I thank you on behalf of someone, we really owed you one in the last dungeon!”

This Seagull seemed completely unaware that he himself was also a major suspect.

”Weʼre halfway through the questioning, any thoughts?”

After Seagull left, Li Hua unusually initiated a question.

Fu Luo stroked his chin. ”I have a feeling Iʼve grasped something, but itʼs just a feeling, not fully formed yet.”

”But I have a hunch... after questioning all eight people, I should be able to get something that at least counts as an ʼimportant clue,ʼ maybe even arrive at the answer directly.”

”I believe May feels the same way.”

Lin Yu neither confirmed nor denied, just gave a slight nod.

He didnʼt have Fu Luoʼs almost abstract talent and intuition.

But compared to Fu Luo, Lin Yu actually had one extra puzzle piece—last nightʼs ”accomplice” in the dream gave Lin Yu an additional perspective during the questioning.

And indeed, there were certain questionable points in the conversations with the previous four individuals.

Lin Yu let out a breath.

”Letʼs continue... next is Chris, then Paper Kite...”

”But before we start questioning these two, Iʼd like to ask Captain Good Night and the Game Master first.”

Good Night, leaning against the wall, was almost asleep and now snapped back to attention.

”Ah, shit, Iʼm involved too? I thought I was just standing here as a prop!”

”Go ahead!”

He spoke up.

”I remember on the way here you mentioned you were very suspicious of Chris. What was the reason... it shouldnʼt be just because heʼs a bounty hunter, right?”

This was the reason Seagull had just given.

Before Good Night could speak, Li Hua spoke first. ”Because after Chris snatched his ranking back then, he couldnʼt swallow his anger and fought with Chris...”

”Shit, even if youʼre the East China Regional Head, you canʼt slander me like that, shit. Are you saying Iʼm shit, holding a grudge? Shit, Li Hua, donʼt talk nonsense, I thought we were brothers, shit!”

Although Good Nightʼs expression didnʼt change much, his noticeably faster speech and the increased concentration of hometown dialect in his sentences showed he was a bit agitated.

”I didnʼt mean it that way. What I meant was... you should be relatively familiar with Chrisʼs methods. Iʼve only heard his fighting style is close to ʼcursesʼ... so I actually have suspicions too, just not very sure.”

Li Hua remained calm.

Hearing this, Good Night calmed down and nodded. ”Yes, although there was some venting on the car ride, after arriving and seeing the scene... if anyone could achieve that level, it could only be Chris.”

”Heʼs an expert at using curses, completely capable of delayed killing with almost no trace—because heʼs not exactly using items.”

”Delayed killing without using items?”

Lin Yu was somewhat surprised.

”Yes, because he implanted a special [item] within his soul that allows him to continuously generate a magical power similar to ʼmana.ʼ Then he learned many curses and magic from an NPC in a dungeon world,” Good Night shrugged. ”Simply put, this guy can actually craft his own skills.”

”Thatʼs why that guy also has an alternative code name—ʼDemon Hunter Chris.ʼ”
