Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

Chapter 376: Li Hua’s Status

Among all the members of Order currently present, Li Hua undoubtedly held the highest authority in terms of having a say.

To put it bluntly, just in terms of position, even if Liang Ye were to become the Chief Captain of Jiangcheng in the future, he still wouldnʼt carry as much weight as Li Hua, the Hai City Game Master.

After joining and looking through Orderʼs materials, Lin Yu roughly understood the organizational structure within Order.

The highest decision-making body of Order was called the ”Headquarters,” and it consisted of only five people.

They were Orderʼs supreme leader, General, and three decision-making executives: Secretary, Grandmaster, and Professor. The code name of the fifth person had not yet been revealed.

Reporting to these five were the seven ”Regional Divisions” of Northeast China, North China, East China, South China, Central China, Northwest China, and Southwest China. Each regional division consisted of one ”Regional Administrator” and one or two ”Inspectors.”

The two were of equal rank, but their responsibilities differed.

Below that were the Chief Captains and various squads of each city.

Additionally, larger first and second-tier cities had independently established ”City Administrators”—although some ”City Administrators” were also members of Order, they werenʼt exclusively Order members;they were individuals who collaborated with Order.

Like the Fengcheng administrator, Hundred-Tempered Steel, who came this time.
The reason for this setup was that General and Secretary were concerned that the power of a cityʼs Chief Captain and Regional Administrator might become excessively inflated. Relying solely on one or two inspectors to put out fires wouldnʼt be sufficient for supervision, so they placed these individuals in various cities who would follow orders but not necessarily heed all directives.

And Li Hua was extremely special.

He was the Hai City Game Master and also the Regional Administrator for the East China region.

The only other person holding such a dual role was the K City administrator in the Northwest region, Knight, who also served as the Inspector for the Northwest region.

But that was purely due to the Northwest having a sparse population and vast territory...

The East China region was different.

Moreover, Hai City itself was the most prosperous city, second in importance only to Yanjing, and even surpassed Yanjing in terms of population alone!

This not only reflected Li Huaʼs formidable personal capabilities but also demonstrated the high level of trust he enjoyed within Order.

There were even all sorts of unreliable rumors circulating:

For example, the ethical series: Li Hua was Generalʼs illegitimate son, Secretaryʼs nephew, Grandmasterʼs cousin, or Professorʼs nephew.

Then there was the more sci-fi leaning one: Order had means to detect the values and ideologies of its higher-ups, and they discovered Li Huaʼs thinking was fundamentally upright and correct, his will as unshakable as steel.

There was also one that sounded somewhat plausible: Li Hua and General were players from the same batch, and the two had always gone through dungeons together in the early days.

There were even people who said Gambler was the fifth person in Orderʼs Headquarters, but just like Grandmaster, he disliked managing the entire organization and making macro-level decisions, so he went out to manage Hai City according to his own ideas.

Lin Yu definitely didnʼt believe any of these many rumors.

But regardless, Li Huaʼs identity as the East China Regional Administrator was solid.

So...

Although Lin Yu still wanted to delve deeper into matters related to that ”Twenty.”

After hearing Li Huaʼs decision, he could only second the motion.

Of course...

Lin Yu himself didnʼt have any objections either. As long as he made Li Hua and Liang Ye aware that he was being targeted, his initial objective was basically achieved.

Moreover, Li Hua still gave him and Furbollo considerable autonomy.

”Who do you plan to question first?”

Arriving in the hotel corridor, Li Hua asked the two of them.

Fu Luo looked at Lin Yu: ”Iʼm fine with anything... In my view, since thereʼs the possibility of Twenty acting as a consultant and accomplice, the suspicion on these guys is all equal.”

”After all, given his track record, planning a crime that leaves no trace shouldnʼt be too difficult... I even suspect this guyʼs [Exclusive Item] might be specifically geared towards erasing traces.”

Liang Ye got a headache: ”Ah, shit, if it really is because of an [Exclusive Item] that we canʼt find any clues or physical evidence, then questioning becomes the only breakthrough point left?”

Lin Yu shook his head: ”I actually donʼt think itʼs like that.”

Because based on the contact in the ”dream,” even though the ghost-masked man suspected to be Twenty never exposed himself throughout and was deliberately feigning weakness, making it difficult to analyze what kind of person he was from his micro-expressions, demeanor, and behavior.

Lin Yu still felt the other party had ”pursuits.”

Twenty seemed like a very typical genius, possessing all the strengths of a genius: quick-thinking, creative, observant.

But at the same time, he also had the common flaws of geniuses: arrogance, pride, pursuit of perfection, and to some extent, a lack of empathy.

People like this often have paranoid personality disorders—otherwise, if Lin Yu had the ability to weave dreams for others, he definitely wouldnʼt create a black sand beach that hurt your feet and a dilapidated little cabin, then bundle up tightly inside to play cards with someone.

Wouldnʼt it be better to make it more bizarre and surreal so the other person truly thought they were dreaming?

Or... pretend to be the other personʼs mother, lover, teacher, or even play God and create an afterlife;directly impersonating the other person themselves to make them mistakenly think they were having some id, ego, superego dialogue would also work.

Even if it really was playing cards, Lin Yu would absolutely one hundred percent cheat, or simply establish rules absolutely advantageous to himself.

But Twenty didnʼt. He just very seriously played cards with him and seemed to genuinely expect Lin Yu to find some strategy within this game that would pleasantly surprise him.

Seeing the three curious gazes, Lin Yu didnʼt explain.

”Alright, letʼs go question them... starting with Phoenixʼs side.”

Li Hua looked at Lin Yu again.

”Is there a particular reason for choosing Phoenix?”

Lin Yu casually explained.

”Oh, based on some of my investigations... this senior member of the Huntersʼ Association seems to have had some past friction with Radish.”

”No, even saying ʼfrictionʼ isnʼt accurate—it should be said she has a grudge against Radish, the kind severe enough to constitute a ʼmotive for murder.ʼ”

Hearing this, Liang Ye clicked his tongue softly: ”Shit, youʼre very well-informed, brother.”

Li Hua, however, nodded.

”I understand, letʼs go.”

Saying that, he turned and walked towards the elevator.

Lin Yu was somewhat curious: ”Wait a moment, Phoenixʼs room is also on this floor.”

”I know,” Li Hua stopped and calmly pushed his glasses up, ”Iʼve already spoken with the hotel management, borrowing one of their conference rooms... it was renovated overnight last night.”

”As the ʼquestioningʼ party, we donʼt need to go door-to-door asking them one by one. This isnʼt a population census.”

”We need to have them come to us.”

After saying that, Li Hua walked to the elevator and pressed the up button.

Lin Yu patted the stunned Fu Luo beside him.

”See, I told you bringing these two along would be beneficial.”
