We Agreed On Experiencing Life, So Why Did You Immortals Become Real?

Chapter 444: Sending a Gift to My Junior Brother

The Demon Realm.

A man walked through a forest in the mountains.

He was dressed in a simple blue robe, with a long sword hanging at his waist, and looked very much like a wandering swordsman-scholar traveling the rivers and lakes.

In the Ten Thousand Laws Realm, this manner of dress would have seemed perfectly ordinary but in the Demon Realm, his attire made him stand out in an absolutely conspicuous way to the countless demon folk around him and walking behind the man was a woman dressed in palace robes.

Her hands were folded before her, her legs moving in light, gentle steps beneath the hem of her skirt, her eyes drifting every now and then toward the husband at her side, as though worried he might grow thirsty or tired.

Ahead of the two of them, on the peak of a mountain, thick demon energy billowed and churned.

That demon energy had taken on a physical form, condensing in the air into a dense mass of dark clouds.

”Husband, are we truly going back to the Ten Thousand Laws Realm?”

The woman named Wang Yue asked her husband.

Wang Yue had not always gone by that name.
As a rabbit spirit, when she had first awakened her intelligence, she had given herself the name Xiao Yue.

Later, Xiao Yue followed the man to the Ten Thousand Laws Realm, and after concealing her identity, changed her name to Ming Cha.

Later still, as the man grew stronger and stronger, Xiao Yue no longer had to worry about so many things while following her husband, and wanted to change back to her original name but she had never had a family name to begin with.

So she broke the character ”Yue” apart.

The left half became her surname, and the right half became her given name.

From that point on, her name was settled. She was called Wang Yue.

”It is time to return to the Ten Thousand Laws Realm,” the man named Luo Yang replied.

Wang Yue lowered her head again, and there seemed to be something weighing on her mind.

Luo Yang gave a small smile and ruffled his wifeʼs hair. ”I know you do not have particularly fond memories of the Ten Thousand Laws Realm. So if you wish to stay in the Demon Realm, I have no objection to that either. Once I have finished what I need to do, I will naturally come and find you.”

Hearing her husbandʼs words, Wang Yue shook her head and said earnestly, ”Your servant wishes to stay by husbandʼs side. Wherever husband goes, your servant will go too.”

”Very well.” Luo Yang smiled. ”Do not worry. As things stand now, even if others find out we have returned to the Ten Thousand Laws Realm, they would not dare do anything to us.”

”With husband by my side, your servant is naturally at ease. And your servant has not seen Master Xiao in quite a long time either.” Wang Yue said with a smile. ”I wonder how Master Xiao is getting on these days.”

”Junior Brother most likely will not recognize either of us. As for how he is doing, I imagine it will not be too bad, but probably not too good either...”

Luo Yang gave a quiet sigh, his tone carrying a note of feeling.

He knew that Miss Bai had already found Xiao Moʼs current reincarnation but over these years, as his own cultivation had risen and the things he came into contact with grew increasingly hidden and secret, he had come to understand all the more that each of his junior brotherʼs lifetimes was never a simple matter.

All Luo Yang hoped for was that his junior brother would not end up being divided equally among all parties.

There was also the matter of checking in on his junior sister during this return.

Over these thousands of years, he did not know how many people had pursued her, yet his junior sister had remained unmoved by all of them.

By now, his junior sister had even become the dean of the White Deer Academy, and still had not married.

How could Luo Yang not know that his junior sister, despite appearing ”without feeling or desire,” was in truth that way because someone had long since taken up the whole of her heart?

It was just that the one living in his junior sisterʼs heart...

”Alas, forget it. There is no use thinking about it.”

Luo Yang let out an inward sigh and stopped letting his thoughts wander further.

Matters of love like these were tangled threads that could not be neatly cut or straightened. It could only come down to the fortune and fate of those involved.

Without him fully realizing it, Luo Yang had already arrived at the foot of the mountain peak where the demon energy was thickest.

This mountain was called Liubo Mountain.

”ROARRR!”

A thunderous bovine cry tore through the clouds and shook the earth, sending the wild beasts nearby scattering in all directions.

”Stand behind me.” Luo Yang said to Wang Yue.

Wang Yue gave a nod and stepped behind her husband, careful not to cause him any trouble.

In the next instant, the demon beast grew larger and larger, until at last it loomed as massive as an entire mountain range.

This fearsome beast was shaped like a bull, with a grey-blue body, no horns, and only one leg.

The Classic of Mountains and Seas, in the chapter of the Eastern Wilderness, had once recorded:

”In the Eastern Sea there is Liubo Mountain, seven thousand li into the sea. Upon it lives a beast shaped like a bull, grey-blue in body, without horns, with one foot. When it enters and exits the water, storms of wind and rain follow. Its light is like the sun and moon, its voice like thunder. Its name is Kui.”

Legend has it that the Kui were born at the same time as heaven and earth, and that only three have ever existed.

There is also a legend that in the age of the ancient gods, when the sword immortal of the human race led the humans into their final great battle against the divine beings of the heavens, he slew one of the Kui, used the Kuiʼs hide to make a battle drum, and fashioned a drumstick from the bones of a thunder beast.

A single strike of that drum resounded for fifty thousand li. Three strikes resounded for thirty-eight million li.

It stirred the spirits of the human warriors to a tremendous degree, and every last one of them marched forward without the slightest fear of death.

The Kui of the Demon Realm was naturally not one of the three born alongside heaven and earth, but rather a great blue ox that had cultivated unceasingly to purify its bloodline, showing signs of reverting to an ancestral form. By now it had become a great demon at the peak of the Jade Simplicity realm.

”Filthy human! Do you know what consequences await you for trespassing in my domain?”

The Kui roared, and its demon energy, heavy as a mountain range, came pressing down upon Luo Yang.

”I have come to Liubo Mountain for nothing more than to request one item from you.” Luo Yang said, his tone sounding exceedingly courteous.

”Request an item from me? Ha ha ha ha!” The Kui heard this and was first startled, then burst into a great laugh that shook the heavens and earth. ”How amusing, human! Say on then! What is it you want!”

Luo Yang clasped his hands and bowed. ”What I ask of you is your hide, to make a garment, and your demon core, to brew a jug of wine, as a welcoming gift to bring to a friend.”

”Bold words! Then let us see, human, whether you have the life to come and take them!”

Upon hearing this, the Kui was enraged, and charged headlong at Luo Yang like a living mountain.

Luo Yang looked at the skull bearing down on him like a mountain peak. His expression did not change. The long sword at his side was drawn no more than half an inch from its scabbard, and yet sword qi swept across ten thousand li.

Half a stick of incense later, Luo Yang walked out from among the mountains.

In his storage pouch, there was now a piece of the finest hide from the Kuiʼs back, along with one demon core and just as Luo Yang was leading his wife toward the Ten Thousand Laws Realm, a fox-clan woman stepped out and stood in his path, blocking the way ahead.

”Palace maid of the Nine-Tailed Kingdom, Ke Qing, acting on the orders of Her Majesty, greets Master Luo.”

The palace maid named Ke Qing gave a respectful bow.

”The Nine-Tailed Kingdom?” Luo Yang looked at the woman before him. ”I wonder what your kingdomʼs ruler wishes to convey?”

”I would not presume to speak of conveying anything.” Ke Qing shook her head.

”It is simply that my mistress heard that Master Luo is returning to the Ten Thousand Laws Realm, and that Master Luo also owes our Nine-Tailed Kingdom a favor. Her Majesty wishes to ask Master Luo for a small assistance.”

Luo Yangʼs brow furrowed slightly. ”Please speak, Miss. If it is something within my ability, I will certainly not refuse.”

”Master Luo is naturally able to do it.”

Ke Qing smiled faintly and drew a letter from inside her robe.

”This is a letter written personally by Her Majesty.”

”We ask that Master Luo please deliver this letter into the hands of the ruler of the Zhou Kingdom, Xiao Mo.”
