I Became a Witch in a World Full of Urban Legends

Using charm on Fu Xinyi?

Easier said than done. What if the dice goddess gives me a critical failure and she just turns around and kills me on the spot?

“No way, I’m not going!” Lu Yibei shook his head like a rattle drum. “This ability came to me out of nowhere. I haven’t even figured out how to use it yet, and you want me to use it on an enemy? That’s way too risky.”

“Tsk!” Gou Meng clicked her tongue, grabbing a big chunk of flesh from Lu Yibei’s face and pulling it back and forth like rubber. “How do you know if you don’t try? Do you have a better way to lure her away right now?”

“Well…” Lu Yibei thought for a moment, then said seriously, “I could order her a takeaway of stir-fried sprouted poisonous potatoes, knock her out with the poison, then find a place to dig a hole and bury her. What do you think?”

Gou Meng nodded, her expression unusually serious. “Sounds good. Why don’t you give it a try?”

“Uh… I was just trash talking, just kidding.”

Gou Meng rolled her eyes at Lu Yibei. “Yeah, I was just kidding too.”

Lu Yibei, “…”

In silence, he glanced at Fu Xinyi from afar, then at Gou Meng, thought for a moment, and asked in a low voice, “Do you really think charming her will work?”“Kid, have a little more confidence in your stunning good looks! Just go over there boldly, ask her out like you’d normally ask a girl out. High-level charm is often just that simple and direct.”

Actually, I’ve always been pretty confident in this area… Lu Yibei thought to himself, hesitated, then said, “Then I’ll give it a try?”

“But if I really manage to lure her away, you have to save a haunting for me to experiment on! We agreed on that before.”

“Yeah, yeah, I know!” Gou Meng replied perfunctorily, then suddenly remembered something, crossed her arms over her chest, and looked at Lu Yibei sideways. “By the way, you’ve asked girls out before, right?”

If he doesn’t know any lines for asking girls out, maybe using some crude seduction would be more reliable, Gou Meng thought.

“Of course!” Lu Yibei lifted his chin proudly. “You don’t know, back in high school, I was super popular with the girls. Almost every weekend, someone would ask me out!”

“Oh wow, pretty impressive. Then hurry up and go! I’m rooting for you!”

Gou Meng said with a grin, climbed down from Lu Yibei’s shoulder, and ran off toward Professor Ma with a “da-da-da,” turning back to watch Lu Yibei walk toward Fu Xinyi.

Lu Yibei took a few steps, secretly slipped a Paper Cicada Immortal into his right palm, then took a few more steps and slipped a smoke miasma talisman between the fingers of his left hand, looking like he was ready for battle-not at all like he was about to ask a girl out, but rather like he was about to fight for his life.

And then…

Gou Meng vaguely heard Lu Yibei’s invitation to Fu Xinyi.

“Hey, senior sister, I just saw a new internet cafe open near University Town. The setup is awesome, and if you top up a hundred yuan as a new member, you get a free milk tea. Interested in going for a couple of games together? My treat!”

“???”

Gou Meng’s little face almost twisted into [confused.jpg], and she turned to look at Lu Yibei with an expression like she was staring at some kind of bizarre monster.

This is what you meant by having girls ask you out every weekend?

Did they ask you to help them rank up?

I’m not even asking you to go straight to a hotel, but at least ask someone to a movie, right? Gou Meng thought angrily.

However, what she didn’t know was that she’d almost hit the nail on the head. After all, Lu Yibei’s gaming talent was extraordinary-he’d even received invitations to try out for professional teams.

But as for the girls’ invitations, he’d never accepted a single one.

How are you supposed to play games with girls who don’t even understand the skill descriptions?

The strong always walk alone. Women only slow down your climb to the top!

Fu Xinyi never expected Lu Yibei to suddenly walk up and talk to her, let alone make such a ridiculous invitation. She instinctively wanted to refuse, but the moment she turned around, her gaze met Lu Yibei’s.

Those eyes were deep and captivating, as clear as a sunny day. The dark brown pupils shimmered with a watery light, like the bright moon reflected on water, carrying a subtle warmth, like a spring breeze, quietly conveying a clumsy sincerity and an irrepressible passion.

Like a little puppy, always radiating enthusiasm to everyone around.

This kind of young boy, awkwardly expressing his feelings, didn’t make Fu Xinyi feel annoyed at all.

She even found herself thinking, “Going on a date with such an innocent boy might not be bad,” and “A boyfriend you can nurture like this could be pretty interesting.” She couldn’t help but want to give him a positive response.

“Junior brother, you’ve never asked a girl out before, have you?” Fu Xinyi said with a gentle smile, a teasing glint in her clear eyes.

Lu Yibei had seen that look before, back when he followed his dad to The to find Shui-Ge. There was a woman in her forties, still charming despite her age, sitting next to Shui-Ge. She looked at Shui-Ge and his dad with that same expression.

At the time, young Lu Yibei didn’t know what that look meant. Now he understood, and being on the receiving end left him a little at a loss.

But this awkwardness, under the boost of his charm power, was like applying a tenfold beauty filter.

“….”

Can you even do this?

You’re supposed to charm others, so why are you the one getting shy first?

From a distance, Gou Meng saw this scene and clenched her fists, gripping the old flesh on Professor Ma’s shoulder, making his body squirm in pain.

“Hiss-! What are you doing?”

“Grandpa Ma, you look so tired, I just wanted to give you a shoulder massage,” Gou Meng said in a soft, sweet voice, instantly melting Professor Ma’s heart.

Seeing Lu Yibei silent for so long, with a faint blush on his cheeks, Fu Xinyi’s smile deepened.

He actually looks kind of cute like this?

“Looks like you’ve never been on a date with a girl before? Let me give you some advice. For your first date, it’s best to plan ahead.”

“If you just take her to a net café for a gaming session on a whim, that’s not going to work! Seven or eight out of ten girls will get a bad impression of you.”

“So what you’re saying is…” Lu Yibei hesitated.

So, are you coming with me or not?

“I’m saying, it doesn’t seem like we can help much here for now,” Fu Xinyi glanced around. “So I’ll accept your invitation and teach you how to date a girl. But I really don’t want to go to a net café. How about we go see a movie?”

“Sure!” Lu Yibei’s eyes lit up. “There’s a new release, ‘Love and Magic Girls 3: Blossom Girl and Blossom Girl.’ I’ve been wanting to see it!”

Watching Lu Yibei pull off something no normal carbon-based male would ever do, Gou Meng gave Professor Ma’s shoulder a frustrated little punch.

The girl already suggested a movie, can’t you pick something with a normal vibe?

Professor Ma winced in pain, baring his teeth at Gou Meng. He opened his mouth to say something, but she chirped, “Grandpa Ma, let me give you a back massage~!”

“Alright, alright!” Professor Ma nodded, clenching his molars.

Granddaughters are great, so thoughtful, like a warm little jacket. It’s just…

Her hands are a bit strong. Professor Ma thought, pained but happy.

“Pfft-!”

Seeing Lu Yibei’s excited look, Fu Xinyi covered her mouth and laughed. “If you want to see it so much, I don’t mind watching with you. But I haven’t seen the first two…”

“You…”

You haven’t even watched such a fun movie?

If we weren’t trying to distract you for my pesky little sister, I wouldn’t even want to go out with you!

Lu Yibei thought indignantly, taking a deep breath to suppress his annoyance, patting his chest. “It’s fine, I’ll explain it to you on the way.”

“Okay~!” Fu Xinyi replied sweetly.

“Let me think… It’s a bit complicated, so maybe I’ll start with ‘Love and Magic Girls: The Fallen Flower.’ The story begins like this…”

“???”

Gou Meng watched as Fu Xinyi left the conference room with Lu Yibei, chatting and laughing, completely absorbed in his story-sometimes frowning in thought, sometimes giggling-her mind filled with question marks.

Is this for real?

Are you a walking hormone?

A facial paralysis BB machine, using such a dumb invitation, actually managed to ask out a girl like that. Even Gou Meng, the power-holder of reproduction, a mythical type haunting with a bit of matchmaking thrown in, was stunned.

She suddenly felt that Lu Yibei’s charm ability might be more effective than she imagined, and seemed to be heading in an indescribable direction.

But then again, with the charm filter on, a chatterbox isn’t a chatterbox anymore, he’s just talkative; facial paralysis isn’t facial paralysis, it’s cool and aloof; clumsy isn’t clumsy, it’s pure-hearted.

For now, he successfully lured Fu Xinyi away, which was definitely a good thing.

Lost in thought, Gou Meng slumped over Professor Ma’s shoulder and weakly asked, “Old man, do you think good-looking people in this world can really do whatever they want?”

“….” Drawing on his own experience, Professor Ma pondered for a while, then nodded. “In some things, yes, they really can.”

“Hey!” Gou Meng let out a soft sigh and pointed to the Western Han bronze peach blossom wine vessel not far ahead. “Old man, go take a look at that one. I think that one’s real.”

“Alright! Let’s go have a look!” Professor Ma responded.

However, just as Professor Ma set Gou Meng down and she trotted over, at the very moment she was about to pick up the square vessel, a hand suddenly reached out from the side and grabbed it before she could.

“Eh?!” Gou Meng exclaimed softly. Looking toward the owner of the hand, she saw a sturdy man with a burly figure and shabby clothes.

It was Mao Sanyou.

No one knew when Mao Sanyou had arrived. He smiled at Gou Meng, then glanced at the square vessel in his hand, tilting it slightly. “Little sister, you seem to really like this one?”

As he spoke, he leaned closer to Gou Meng, lowered his voice, and said in a tone only the two of them could hear, “I know a place with lots of artifacts like this, very, very special ones. Are you interested in taking a look?”

Hearing this, Gou Meng was stunned for a moment, then tilted her head and blinked her big, confused eyes at Mao Sanyou, as if to say, “Big brother, I don’t know what you’re talking about!”

Seeing this, Mao Sanyou chuckled again and added, “Little sister, there’s something sealed inside this, isn’t there?”

Gou Meng, “!!!”

This man knows there’s a haunting sealed inside the artifact?!

On the other side, twenty minutes later.

Three kilometers from Tang City University, on the third floor of a shopping mall in front of Hengdian Cinema, Lu Yibei was holding popcorn and cola, staring blankly at Fu Xinyi, who was picking up tickets at the self-service machine not far away.

Honestly, he had never been on a date with a girl in his life. Even though he felt nothing for her, he still had a little bit of anticipation.

Maybe he could take this chance to learn a thing or two about dating girls, so when he asked Meow Meow-chan out in the future, he wouldn’t be completely clueless.

As Lu Yibei thought this, the image of a certain silver-haired girl uncontrollably surfaced in his mind.

He was distracted for a few seconds, then looked again in Fu Xinyi’s direction, only to be slightly taken aback.

Gone? Where did she go? Lu Yibei frowned.

“Ding-!”

The mall’s fire alarm suddenly went off. With the piercing bell, a trace of panic appeared on everyone’s faces.

What’s going on? Is there a fire?

Lu Yibei stretched his neck and looked around in confusion, then, as if hallucinating, heard a howling wind amid the noise.

At that moment, he suddenly felt the Death Owl Emblem in his arms vibrate violently.

A cold wind came out of nowhere, scraping across his back like a blade.

What the heck? What’s going on? Did Meow Meow-chan find out I was secretly dating someone else? Lu Yibei thought in horror.

The next moment, it was as if a huge tear had opened in the warm mall, and the biting wind and snow from outside poured in, the icy chill sweeping across the entire third floor.

In an instant, everyone felt their consciousness invaded by the sudden, piercing cold. In a daze, thunderous booms erupted in their ears, and people evacuating began to faint one after another.

His eyes burned intensely, and the shadow of death descended without warning. A violent, icy fear seemed to freeze solid in Lu Yibei’s chest.

Crap! Is it those people targeting The Midnight Watchers Society operators?

Damn, I forgot-Fu Xinyi is an insider!

Going out with her just increases the risk of being ambushed!

Connecting Fu Xinyi’s sudden disappearance, Lu Yibei’s heart instantly went cold.

He knew that as long as he stayed in Tang City, that mysterious group’s ambush would happen again sooner or later.

But he hadn’t expected those guys to dare attack in broad daylight, right in front of everyone.

Is there no law anymore?!

As Lu Yibei thought this, he stiffly turned toward the source of that terrifying psychic energy fluctuation, and saw a figure suddenly appear in the empty mall corridor. The burning pain in his eyes intensified.

He forced his eyes shut, then opened them again. When he finally saw the figure’s face clearly, Lu Yibei’s pupils contracted, and his body jolted as if struck in the chest by a heavy hammer.

“Suolang Baima, codename White Lotus, The Midnight Watchers Society defector, spiritual pattern: Nine-Colored Lotus, psychic energy fluctuation level A+ or above [Image], [Image] (Warning! Extremely dangerous).”

The information he had previously obtained from the Void about the culprit who attacked Lu Ming quietly surfaced in his mind, and gradually overlapped with that figure, merging into one…
