Yandere Stream

Kai heard the name again.

Eden.

It didn’t sound like a name he had forgotten. It sounded like a door opening.

Every memory inside him shifted at once. He remembered being Kai. He remembered being Cael. He remembered Adrian’s first breath, Finn’s first laugh, and every version of himself that had ever existed between those two names. He remembered Luna finding him when he was still too young to understand what loneliness was. He remembered the first notebook, the first sentence, and the first time he had written a world into existence because reality had stopped being enough.

None of those memories felt separate anymore.

They belonged to him.

All of them.

Kai dropped to his knees. Luna immediately caught him before he hit the floor completely.

”Kai?”

He looked at her. For a moment, he almost corrected her. Then he realized he didn’t care what name she used.

He smiled weakly.

”I’m here.”

Luna’s eyes filled with tears.

”I know.”

Behind them, the broken computer flickered. Elias’s face returned to the screen, but this time he wasn’t looking at Kai.

He was looking at Eden.

”You finally remembered.”

Eden slowly stood. The pain in his head had disappeared. So had the fear.

He looked at the screen.

”You knew my name.”

”Yes.”

”Mom knew.”

”Yes.”

”Luna knew.”

”Yes.”

”Cael knew.”

Elias nodded.

Eden looked around the shattered room.

”Why did everyone lie?”

Elias took a long breath before answering.

”Because Eden wasn’t supposed to wake up.”

The words hung heavily in the air.

Luna’s expression changed.

Eden looked at her.

”What happens when I wake up?”

Elias didn’t answer.

That was enough.

Eden slowly turned toward the ceiling as the entire building trembled. Outside, the city lights began flickering. One by one at first. Then thousands at once.

Luna grabbed his arm.

”Eden.”

He looked at her.

”What?”

”Look.”

Eden turned toward the window.

The sky was opening.

Not cracking.

Opening.

A massive circular shape appeared above the city, revealing an endless white space beyond the clouds.

Something stood inside it.

The Reader.

But it looked different now.

Smaller.

Almost human.

It stepped through the opening and its blank face slowly began changing. Eyes appeared. A nose. A mouth. Hair. Skin.

Kai stared.

The face became familiar.

It was his.

Only older.

Much older.

The Reader smiled.

”Hello, Eden.”

Eden stared back.

”You’re me.”

The Reader nodded.

”The version that remembered first.”

Luna stepped between them.

”Why are you here?”

The Reader looked at her.

”Because he is awake.”

Eden’s expression hardened.

”And what happens now?”

The Reader smiled.

”Now we finish the first story.”

Eden shook his head.

”No.”

The Reader tilted its head.

”You don’t understand.”

”I understand perfectly.”

Eden stepped forward.

”There isn’t a first story anymore.”

The Reader’s smile widened.

”That is exactly why you are dangerous.”

Without warning, the entire city fell silent.

Every person froze.

Every car stopped.

Every bird vanished from the sky.

Time itself seemed to stop moving.

Everyone except Eden.

And Luna.

The Reader looked at her.

”You were never supposed to survive the awakening.”

Luna narrowed her eyes.

”Yet here I am.”

”Yes.”

The Reader turned back toward Eden.

”Because you chose her.”

Eden frowned.

”I always choose her.”

”I know.”

The Reader took another step forward.

”That is the problem.”

Something tightened inside Eden’s chest.

The Reader continued.

”Every version of you eventually chooses Luna. Every world. Every timeline. Every ending. You think that means love.”

Eden stared at it.

”What does it mean?”

The Reader’s smile disappeared.

”It means she is the anchor.”

Luna went pale.

Eden immediately looked at her.

”Anchor to what?”

The Reader raised one hand.

The world behind it changed.

Eden saw the first world.

Not the city.

Not the Archive.

Not the childhood home.

Something older than all of them.

A vast white room.

At its center stood a little girl.

Luna.

But she wasn’t alone.

A young boy stood beside her.

Eden.

They were both children.

The little girl held a black thread in her hand.

The thread stretched from her fingers directly into the boy’s chest.

Eden stared at the vision.

”What is that?”

The Reader answered quietly.

”The first connection.”

Luna looked away.

Eden turned toward her.

”You knew.”

She shook her head.

”Not all of it.”

”But you knew something.”

”Yes.”

”Why didn’t you tell me?”

”Because I was afraid.”

”Of what?”

Luna’s voice trembled.

”That if you remembered what I am, you’d stop loving me.”

Eden stared at her.

The Reader laughed softly.

”Now you understand.”

Eden looked at Luna.

”What are you?”

She wiped tears from her face.

”I don’t know.”

The Reader answered for her.

”She is the first memory.”

Eden frowned.

”What?”

”The first memory your mind created when it learned what love was.”

The room seemed to shrink around him.

”You’re saying Luna isn’t real?”

Luna immediately met his eyes.

”I am.”

The Reader interrupted.

”She is real.”

Eden looked toward it.

”But she was created from you.”

The Reader nodded.

”Everything you love began inside you.”

Luna stepped closer.

”But that doesn’t mean what I feel isn’t real.”

Eden looked at her. She reached for his hand.

Her fingers were warm.

Her heartbeat was steady.

Real.

Whatever she was, she was standing there beside him.

That was enough.

Eden squeezed her hand.

”I don’t care.”

The Reader stared.

”What?”

”I don’t care what she was created from.”

Eden looked at Luna.

”She chose me.”

Then he turned back toward the Reader.

”And I chose her.”

For the first time, the Reader’s expression became cold.

”You still don’t understand.”

”Then explain it.”

”The moment you choose her freely...”

The sky began turning white.

”...you destroy the boundary between creator and creation.”

Eden narrowed his eyes.

”What happens then?”

The Reader smiled.

”You become capable of creating something neither of us can control.”

Eden looked down at his hands.

Light was beginning to gather around them.

”What?”

The Reader’s voice became a whisper.

”A world that doesn’t belong to either of us.”

The ground shook.

Buildings began changing.

The frozen people of the city slowly started moving again.

High above them, the Archive appeared in the sky.

But this time its doors weren’t opening.

They were disappearing.

One after another.

The endless worlds inside were collapsing into a single point of light.

Eden stared upward.

”What are you doing?”

The Reader shook its head.

”Not me.”

Eden looked toward Luna.

She was glowing.

Not brightly.

Softly.

Like sunlight through closed curtains.

Luna stared at her own hands.

”Eden...”

He immediately stepped toward her.

”What?”

”I think I’m disappearing.”

His heart stopped.

”No.”

Her fingers slipped partially through his when he tried to grab them.

Eden tightened his grip.

”No.”

The Reader watched silently.

Eden turned toward it.

”Fix this.”

”I can’t.”

”Then I’ll fix it.”

”You can’t.”

Eden’s eyes darkened.

”Watch me.”

He reached toward the light.

The moment his hand touched Luna’s chest, every memory inside him exploded outward.

The first tree.

The first notebook.

The first death.

Every timeline.

Every version.

Every laugh.

Every goodbye.

Every time Luna had found him.

Every time he had found her.

All of it became one thing.

One memory.

One choice.

Eden closed his eyes.

Then he whispered,

”I remember you.”

The light stopped.

Luna opened her eyes.

The glow vanished.

She was solid again.

Real.

Breathing.

Crying.

Eden pulled her into his arms and she held him just as tightly.

The Reader stared.

For the first time, it looked afraid.

Eden slowly turned toward it.

”You were wrong.”

The Reader didn’t answer.

Eden smiled.

”She isn’t my anchor.”

He looked down at Luna.

”She is my choice.”

Then he looked back at the Reader.

”And that’s something you can’t rewrite.”

The Reader stepped backward.

The sky began collapsing behind it.

Eden took a step forward.

”Where are you going?”

The Reader smiled faintly.

”I’m not.”

Eden froze.

”What?”

The Reader pointed behind him.

Eden turned.

The city was gone.

The Archive was gone.

The white sky was gone.

Only darkness remained.

And in that darkness stood a tiny house beneath a tree.

Its porch light was on.

Someone waited outside.

A little boy.

Eden’s younger self.

The child smiled.

”Eden.”

Eden stared.

The boy held out a notebook.

”There’s one more story.”

Eden slowly approached him.

”What story?”

The boy’s smile widened.

”The one you never wrote.”

He opened the notebook.

The first page was completely blank.

Then words slowly appeared.

Chapter One.

Eden looked toward Luna. She smiled.

He looked toward Adrian and Finn, who now stood beside the tree. They both nodded.

Eden picked up the pen.

For the first time, he didn’t write an ending.

He wrote a beginning.

Once upon a time, four people decided they wanted to live.

And somewhere beyond the page...

Something opened its eyes.
