Invincible Little School Doctor

Chapter 995: Chapter 994: Zhang Chong (5 updates)

”Your name is Zhang Chong?” Ye Haochuan walked up to the beggar and asked.

”Yes, Brother Ye. Can you help me? However much you can give, even if it’s just ten or twenty bucks, I’ll remember your kindness for life!” Zhang Chong said, tears welling up in his eyes.

”Don’t worry, I’m here to help you. Ten or twenty bucks is nothing; here’s twenty thousand, take it.”

As he spoke, Ye Haochuan pulled out two stacks of cash and placed them into Zhang Chong’s hands.

”Twenty thousand?”

Zhang Chong was stunned. Just like that—twenty thousand? Was this man rich to an absurd degree? He had sought assistance from the government, but had only received less than twenty thousand in aid.

”Thank you, thank you... When I have the chance in the future, I promise I’ll pay this money back to you!” Zhang Chong said excitedly.

”Don’t worry about paying me back for now; the priority is to get your father’s illness treated.”

At the mention of medical expenses, Zhang Chong’s expression turned grave again.

He looked at Ye Haochuan, then suddenly knelt down and bowed to him several times, saying as he did, ”Brother Ye, I can tell you must be someone who’s not short on money. Could you lend me a million? Give me five years, no—just three years, and I’ll pay you back!”

He was truly desperate. He had spent three days begging here and only managed to gather a few thousand bucks. People like Ye Haochuan, generous and kind-hearted, were exceedingly rare.

Ye Haochuan quickly helped Zhang Chong up, chuckling, ”Pay back a million in three years? You sure are confident!”

”I’m studying computer science, and I’m about to graduate. Once I do, I’ll be able to make a lot of money, and I promise I’ll pay you back quickly!”

”Even if you’re studying computer science, it’s hardly guaranteed that you’ll find a good job right after graduation, right? Plenty of university graduates end up unemployed these days,” Ye Haochuan said with a smile.

”I’m very capable; I’ve even won awards in national hacker competitions. Once I graduate, I’ll definitely earn big bucks!” Zhang Chong, worried that Ye Haochuan wouldn’t believe him, then pulled out his phone to show a photo of his award certificate.

”Oh? Not bad at all!” Ye Haochuan chuckled and began to have a serious conversation with Zhang Chong.

Zhang Chong was only twenty-two years old, a senior at a nearby university. His father was an aging farmer who had scrimped and saved, even skipping out on insurance, to support him through school. Now his father had fallen gravely ill, leaving Zhang Chong completely at a loss.

He had sought help from the government and the media, but the results were far from promising. Altogether, he had only received around ten thousand, nowhere near the over one hundred thousand needed for a heart transplant. For him, it felt like a drop in the ocean. With no other options, he was reduced to begging.

”Loaning you money... I don’t intend to do that.”

”Why? I swear I’ll repay you! Honestly, if you don’t trust me, we can sign a contract. Lend me a million, and I’ll devote my entire life to you. I’ll even be your servant...” Zhang Chong’s urgency turned his eyes red.

Holy crap, is this turning me into a human trafficker?

Ye Haochuan laughed bitterly and quickly interrupted Zhang Chong, saying, ”Don’t get so worked up. I said I won’t loan you money—not because I’m unwilling, but because giving you that million would be hurting you. Even if the heart transplant works, there’s still the risk of rejection. By then, your father might truly have no hope.”

”But aside from the transplant, there’s no other solution!”

”Of course there is. Leave it to me, and I’ll find a way!” Ye Haochuan said confidently.

”Are you a doctor?”

”To be specific, I practice Traditional Chinese Medicine!”

”Traditional Chinese Medicine?” Zhang Chong’s brows furrowed deeply as he asked, ”Which hospital are you affiliated with? From what I know, Traditional Chinese Medicine typically only treats minor illnesses, right?”

Zhang Chong didn’t mean to look down on Traditional Chinese Medicine—it’s just that the general perception of it these days wasn’t very impressive.

”Chinese Medicine certainly isn’t limited to just minor illnesses. Hua Tuo was performing brain surgery on Cao Cao over two thousand years ago! Back then, the ancestors of modern Western medicine hadn’t even been born yet!” Ye Haochuan said righteously.

”This...” Zhang Chong hesitated, unsure how to respond immediately. As a university student, he was certainly familiar with the Hua Tuo anecdote. But could Traditional Chinese Medicine today really reach such heights?

”Relax! With Brother Ye taking charge, your father will definitely be fine!” Seeing Zhang Chong’s uncertainty, Su Yingxue quickly chimed in.

Seeing Su Yingxue’s pure and honest expression, completely devoid of deceit, Zhang Chong fell into deeper hesitation.

Could this guy really be an exceptional doctor?

But aren’t skilled practitioners of Traditional Chinese Medicine supposed to be old grandpas? Could someone this young really be up to the task?

No, I can’t bet my father’s life on this!

In just a few seconds, Zhang Chong’s mind raced with thoughts. But he quickly made up his mind and told Ye Haochuan, ”Thank you for your kind offer, but this risk is simply too great. I’m afraid... my father’s health won’t withstand your failure.”

”In that case, let’s pretend I said nothing!” Ye Haochuan smiled slightly, reached into his pocket, and handed Zhang Chong a bank card. ”This card holds a million; take it.”

Ye Haochuan had his pride—he’d never beg anyone to accept his treatment.

”This...” Zhang Chong was dumbfounded. He hadn’t expected Ye Haochuan to hand over a million so easily and was momentarily stunned.

”Hmph, you’re utterly ungrateful. Brother Ye is the best doctor in the world, yet you’re still doubting him. You’re the biggest fool under the sky!” Su Yingxue stomped her foot angrily and huffed.

”He really is an amazing doctor?” Zhang Chong almost blurted out.

He couldn’t fathom why someone would spend a million just to play games with him.

”Of course. He can even save people on the brink of death—how incredible do you think that is?” Su Yingxue said, somewhat exasperated.

Zhang Chong pondered for a moment. Though he felt Su Yingxue’s remarks were exaggerated, he still thought he ought to believe Ye Haochuan.

”Brother Ye, I believe you. Please help my father with his treatment!” Zhang Chong said with utmost sincerity.

”Brother Ye, he believes in you now. Please help him! Otherwise, wasting a million on those mediocre doctors would be a shame!” Su Yingxue added.

From her words, it seemed as though there were no competent doctors in the world aside from Ye Haochuan.

”I’ll treat your father, but I have one condition!” Touched by Zhang Chong’s filial devotion, Ye Haochuan turned to him and said.

”What condition? Just tell me. As long as it’s something I can do, I’ll do it—even if that means going through fire and water!”

”It’s nothing that serious!” Ye Haochuan chuckled, ”My condition is this: while I’m treating your father, no one else gets to interfere or dictate what I do. If you want me to handle his treatment, you have to trust me completely.”

”This...” Zhang Chong hesitated again. After all, he had only just met Ye Haochuan ten minutes ago. Despite reminding himself that he should trust him, feelings of unease still bubbled up inside.

”Why are you still hesitating? If Brother Ye can’t help your father, there won’t be any other doctors who can!” Su Yingxue said in frustration.

”Alright, I agree!”
