Chapter 980: Chapter 979: Elder of Hellfire (5 updates)

”Damn it, how did they catch up so fast!”

Seeing the Hellfire cultivators rapidly chasing from behind, Ye Haochuan blurted out an expletive.

The two didn’t dare hesitate for even a moment, immediately using every ounce of their strength to run desperately.

However, despite their efforts, the gap in cultivation levels was hard to overcome, and the Hellfire experts kept getting closer.

”Let’s see where you can run!” Seeing the figures ahead getting closer, Yamamoto Shin sneered coldly.

Although there had been some unexpected twists and wasted efforts, as long as the Twin Tigers were killed, their mission would be perfectly completed.

”Huh? Why do their figures seem taller?” As Yamamoto Shin got a clearer look at Ye Haochuan and the other’s figures, he suddenly froze.

”Damn it, it’s a diversion strategy! Head back quickly!”

Yamamoto Shin’s face turned livid, and he hurriedly gathered everyone.

The others were also stunned and immediately shifted gears, swiftly flying backward.

”Those bastards, how dare they mock me! If it weren’t for the mission, I’d grind their bones into dust!”

Yamamoto Shin glared at the backs of Ye Haochuan and the others, grinding his teeth in hatred. He let out an angry curse before reluctantly turning back.

Ye Haochuan had thought this would be the end for him, but unexpectedly, the enemy just cursed and left.

Though the curse was harsh, he was alive! That was a win!

In an instant, he felt as though he had chugged the most satisfying drink imaginable, almost soaring with joy!

”I wonder if the others managed to escape?” As the crisis subsided, Long Piaoying voiced some concern.

”They probably got out, right?” Ye Haochuan replied uncertainly.

Earlier, to give Zhu Qingshuang and the others more time, Ye Haochuan’s group had intentionally flown deeper into the Sub-Thunder Element Dimension Realm. Judging by the time, they should already have reached the teleportation array.

”We need to leave too!” Long Piaoying said.

”To where?”

”To the teleportation array, of course!”

”But there’s still two days left; can’t we wander around a bit more?”

”Wander my foot! You really ticked off the Hellfire people today. Although they can’t leave here, don’t you think they can stir trouble for us inside?” Long Piaoying shot him a glare.

Indeed, today’s bait-and-switch had thoroughly enraged the Hellfire experts.

If they found out the Ji Family’s Twin Tigers had already escaped the Sub-Thunder Element Dimension Realm, Ye Haochuan and Long Piaoying would undoubtedly become their venting targets.

The thought of being hunted down by so many experts sent shivers down Ye Haochuan’s spine.

Damn it, why didn’t I consider that earlier? The danger isn’t over yet; we need to leave the Sub-Thunder Element Dimension Realm as soon as possible.

”Alright, let’s go quickly. If they catch up, we’re done for!”

......

After realizing he had been tricked, Yamamoto Shin led the Hellfire experts rushing back, but suddenly their path was blocked by a lone figure.

”Get lost!”

Already holding a stomach full of rage, Yamamoto Shin drew his sword to strike upon seeing the Xuanmen figure blocking his path.

Yet the person showed no trace of fear — raising his right hand, his palm emanated a swirling crimson mist, within which a translucent token appeared.

The token looked ephemeral, yet the blazing flames around it were strikingly vivid. Faintly visible were three characters: ”Elder’s Order.”

”This is... the Hellfire Elder’s Order?” Yamamoto Shin’s face was overcome with shock, halting his attack immediately.

”Yamamoto Shin had no idea the Elder had graced us with his presence. Please forgive me, Elder!” Yamamoto Shin humbly dropped his earlier arrogance, now full of deference.

The Hellfire Elder’s Orders were entwined with the wielder’s soul, making them impossible to forge. Though Yamamoto Shin was the leader of this mission to assassinate the Twin Tigers, his status within Hellfire was not high; he’d never dare disrespect an Elder.

”I now command you to continue hunting down those two. Especially the young man—he must die!” the shadow suddenly ordered.

”But... our mission is to hunt down the Ji Family’s Twin Tigers, and we haven’t completed that task yet. I’m afraid we can’t assist the Elder,” Yamamoto Shin replied hesitantly, gritting his teeth while standing firm despite his fear of the Elder’s authority.

”Those Twin Tigers have already run off. There’s no way you can catch them now.”

Yamamoto Shin’s face turned ashen, but he still insisted, ”Even if there’s only the slimmest chance, we cannot give up. All of us swore military oaths entering here. If we fail to kill the Twin Tigers, our families will face dire repercussions. Please understand, Elder.”

”You’re targeting the Ji Family’s Twin Tigers because of their outstanding talent, correct?” the figure asked.

Yamamoto Shin hesitated but ultimately nodded. If not for their fear of the Twin Tigers growing stronger, they wouldn’t have gone to the trouble of entering the Sub-Thunder Element Dimension Realm to hunt them down.

”Then let me tell you, the young man you were just chasing has talent a hundred times greater than the Twin Tigers. If you kill him, not only will you avoid punishment but you’ll earn merit!” The figure’s tone was resolute.

”Elder, are you serious? The Ji Family’s Twin Tigers are the most gifted in the Ancient Martial Arts Sect; how is it possible for someone to be even more talented?” Yamamoto Shin retorted skeptically. ”Besides, I looked at that young man earlier—he’s in his twenties and only at Foundation Establishment Early Stage. His talent is nothing extraordinary.”

”What if I told you that, just a month ago, he was at Innate Late Stage?” the figure replied with interest.

”No... that’s impossible!” Yamamoto Shin instinctively denied.

Jumping two stages in just a month was an unimaginable feat. If such a person existed, he would surely be considered a god!

”Do you think I would wield the Elder’s Order just to joke around with you?” the figure’s tone suddenly turned icy.

”I wouldn’t dare!” Seeing the Elder’s displeasure, Yamamoto Shin quickly apologized.

”You all, chase them now!” Realizing he had no way to refuse, Yamamoto Shin hastily ordered a Foundation Establishment Peak cultivator and some subordinates to resume the hunt.

In his view, against a Foundation Establishment Late Stage and a Foundation Establishment Early Stage cultivator, the dispatched team was more than enough.

”You can keep some of your people searching for the Ji Family’s Twin Tigers, but if you fail to kill that man, the consequences will be unbearable!” the figure warned coldly.

Yamamoto Shin felt a chill run down his spine, drenched in cold sweat.

”Elder, may I know your name so that if people ask about the Ji Family’s Twin Tigers, I can respond truthfully?”

”Li Mei,” the figure answered coldly, then turned away without hesitation.

”Li Mei? It’s actually him?” Hearing the name, Yamamoto Shin froze in shock.

Li Mei’s name echoed like thunder within Hellfire—he was their most formidable figure a century ago. However, due to soul transmigration enabled by Xuanming Sect’s cultivation techniques, he had started over as an ordinary person and disappeared from public view. Unexpectedly, Yamamoto Shin had encountered him here in the Sub-Thunder Element Dimension Realm.

”Now what do we do?” someone beside Yamamoto Shin asked, unsure whether to obey Li Mei’s orders.

”What can we do? We can’t offend either side!” Yamamoto Shin replied bitterly.

”Recall anyone dealing with Xuanmen—if the main targets have escaped, what’s the point? Split the team: half will search for the Ji Family’s Twin Tigers with me, and the rest will chase after those two!”
