System Awakened: I Became the Mafia Kings' Obsession

Chapter 85: 85: I can’t break my promise

Prince’s Mansion

In a dark room lit by only a single flickering candle, Prince walked in and moved closer to the wall, which was covered with a large black fabric. He held the edge of the fabric and pulled it down, revealing endless pictures of Nova pinned across the surface.

The heavy silence in the room was suffocating, thick with an unhinged, obsessive tension that seemed to shrink the space around him. He moved closer, his hand gently caressing the pictures one by one, his eyes bloodshot red from holding back his tears.

”Why? Why do you have to be so protective of them? Can’t you just spare me a glance too? I just want you for myself, is that too much?” he murmured, clenching his fists together tightly.

He picked one picture from the wall, gently caressing it and pressing a kiss to it. Walking toward the table, he used it to support himself while staring at the picture without blinking. ”Nova, I have promised never to make a move on them ever again, but what about me? How can I continue living without you?” he murmured, his fists clenching even tighter until his knuckles turned white.

”If I had met you earlier, would I have had you for myself alone? I wouldn’t have had to go through all the trouble of trying to take you from them, but now that you have spoken, I dare not violate my promise to you—not because I’m scared of death, but because I am terrified of doing what will make you hate me,” he murmured, closing his eyes to control his tears.

Just as he was lost in thought, a knock sounded at the door.

Knock, knock.

Prince opened his eyes and stared coldly at the entrance. ”Come in,” his voice sounded cold and terrifying, cutting through the heavy atmosphere like a blade.

The door was pushed open and a brown-haired lady entered. Her gaze fell on the wall, and her eyes widened slightly. She looked at Prince, who was holding the table with Nova’s picture in his hand, and she lowered her head, clenching the brown file she was holding tightly.

”Boss, this is all the information about Alan,” the lady said, her voice emotionless as she placed the file on the table.

Prince put down Nova’s picture on the desk and took a deep breath. He took the file and opened it, pulling out the documents inside, then read them without any change of expression.

”So he’s not just a top-ranked hacker, but he’s the big assassin organization’s boss too,” he murmured, a dark smile spreading on his lips. ”He’s just hiding his real identity behind a student identity,” he added, dropping the file on the table carelessly.

The file and documents slid across the smooth desk and fell onto the floor with a soft thud.

The brown-haired lady stared at the fallen file and documents, then back at Prince.

”Boss, I also confirmed that Alan’s mother is Mira, the youngest and only survivor of the Emperor Mafia family,” the brown-haired lady reported.

Prince froze and stared at the brown-haired lady. ”Emperor family... Mira?” he repeated, taking a deep breath. ”He sure has a powerful background,” he murmured. ”Where is she now?” he asked.

”She’s no longer in the country, but the information I received confirmed that she went after the people who ruined her family. Her chance of winning is very low, but she... she has already taken full control of the remaining thirty percent of the Emperor family’s power, and everything is now under Alan’s name,” she said.

Prince gritted his teeth together. ”This bastard is actually a powerful mafia leader now,” he murmured.

”Boss, it seems like he’s not aware of his mother’s move yet. If we kill him now, we can seize his power, including everything he holds,” the brown-haired lady commented.

Prince’s gaze darkened. He stared at Nova’s picture on the desk and took a deep breath with his eyes closed.

”Don’t make any move against him,” he said.

The brown-haired lady was stunned and stared at Prince with slightly knitted brows. ”But boss, this is our chance! If you seize his power, you won’t have to bother about anyone else in the mafia circle,” she tried to reason.

Prince was silent for a long time, the air in the room dropping to a freezing chill as his dark intent lingered. ”I promised never to make a move on any of her husbands ever again. I can’t break my promise,” he replied and stood straight, holding the picture and caressing Nova’s face in it.

The brown-haired lady was even more shocked. ”Since when does he care about a promise he made to people? I have followed him for seven years and I have never seen him sincere, not even once. He always goes back on his word and attacks his targets without hesitation, but...” Her gaze fell back onto the wall that was filled with Nova’s pictures.

”Pardon me for my words, boss, but... are you really serious about this lady?” she asked, staring at Prince.

Prince chuckled. ”If I wasn’t serious about her, do you think I would go as far as wanting to eliminate all her husbands?” he replied calmly, his eyes turning colder. ”My only regret is not meeting her before. Had I met her before them, I would have locked her up with me alone,” he added, his eyes flashing with a terrifying obsession.

The brown-haired lady was silent. ”There’s actually a person who can make him hold tightly to his promise and never break it, and that person is actually a woman,” she thought.

”Linda,” Prince called.

”Boss,” the brown-haired lady replied with a bow.

”Send some men to assist Alan’s mother. Her chance of winning must be high,” Prince ordered.

Linda was surprised. ”Boss, this...” She stared at Prince in confusion.

”I don’t want to be Nova’s enemy. Perhaps my method of approaching her was wrong, I might as well try another method,” Prince replied sharply.

Linda nodded. ”I will get to that,” she said, bowing silently before leaving the room.

”Nova... I suddenly changed my mind about wanting you for myself alone. If I join your harem and gradually snatch your attention for myself alone, will that be okay?” he whispered to Nova’s picture, a gentle smile spreading on his lips.
