System Awakened: I Became the Mafia Kings' Obsession

Alex moved closer to Nova, intending to hold her hand, but Nova pulled away before he could reach her and folded her arms together. The air between them instantly froze, the suffocating scent of freshly spilled blood mingling with the heavy, paralyzing dread that settled over the abandoned station.

”So you are really the female devil that caused my brothers to turn against each other!” Viona shouted, her voice trembling in the deathly quiet space.

Mr. and Mrs. Sunny raised their heads, staring at Nova with tear-filled eyes. ”So it’s you! You are the disaster!” Mrs. Sunny cried.

”Mom! Be careful and don’t insult Beauty, or I will turn against you!” Alex shouted in irritation.

Mrs. Sunny’s mouth fell slightly open in shock. ”Turn against me? Did you forget I’m your mother?!” she shouted in pain.

Nova rolled her eyes. Finding an empty chair amidst the carnage, she sat on it with one leg gracefully crossed over the other, idly playing with her fingers as if she were merely watching a boring play.

”You caused this! You want to ruin my family, isn’t it? What exactly do you want? Why must you be after my children’s lives?” Mr. Sunny shouted.

Nova chuckled softly, the sound slicing through the thick tension like a razor. ”Your lack of parenting and not teaching your children the right way... you are now blaming it on me?” she said, staring coldly at Mr. Sunny. ”You are very stupid,” she added.

”You bitch, see how I deal with you!” Viona shouted and rushed at Nova. But before she could reach her, Alex caught her and slapped her heavily across her face.

”What do you even think you are? Just an adopted daughter thinking she’s the real deal. Do you have any say here?” he commented angrily.

Two drops of tears escaped Viona’s eyes, her heart beating faster in pain. ”B... Brother, what did you just call me?” she asked, staring at him in disbelief.

Alex hissed and turned back to Nova, dropping to his knees right in front of her. The tension twisted into something pathetic. ”Beauty... listen to me. I... I acted because he forced me. I didn’t want his life before, but he... he wouldn’t back down. I... I know you must be scared that I killed someone, but trust me, I will never hurt you. I truly love you,” he said, panic reflecting vividly in his unhinged eyes.

Nova smiled lightly. ”Drop out of your fantasy and open your big eyes to see clearly. Do I look like a terrified girl to you?” she asked coldly.

Alex bit his lower lip. ”I...”

”You demoness! Even after taking my eldest son’s life, you want the second one, isn’t it?! Listen, I won’t let you succeed!” Mr. Sunny roared in pain.

”Stop shouting,” Nova glared at him in irritation. ”Did you see me stab him? Or did you see me shoot him?” She rolled her eyes. ”I don’t want only his life though. I want your whole family’s lives, is that okay?” She smiled devilishly.

Mr. Sunny pointed at Nova, clutching his chest tightly. ”You won’t have your way! The police are already on their way, you will rot in jail!” he shouted.

”If the police is your last hope, then you are dead already. Three minutes is enough for me to end you four,” Nova replied.

”Beauty, ignore them, look at me... I want to marry you. I promise to make you the happiest woman in the whole world. I really want you,” Alex commented in a desperate panic.

Nova stared down at Alex. ”Even until you die, I believe you can never wake up from your fantasy,” Nova said, then shifted her chilling gaze to Mrs. Sunny. ”Save those tears, Mrs. Sunny. You all will soon unite with him,” she commented.

Mrs. Sunny stared at Nova, her eyes extremely wet. ”What exactly do you want from us? Why did you have to kill my son? You used them against each other—what is your gain?” she asked, her voice sounding incredibly pained.

Nova chuckled. ”Don’t blame me... you can’t say you aren’t aware of how many lives both of your sons have taken. But what did you and your husband do? Turn a blind eye. Tonight, I will become your terrifying karma,” she replied.

Mrs. Sunny thought for a while, biting her lower lip in deep regret. ”Are you that Nina girl’s sister?” she questioned.

Nova stared at her before smiling. ”Let me introduce myself. My name is Nova, your karma. I’m not the dead girl’s relative, but... it’s time to say sorry to her in hell.”

”You are not her relative, then what’s your business?! Why are you interfering in what is completely none of your business!” Viona shouted.

Nova snorted coldly. ”I was very well aware of your stupidity, I just didn’t expect you to be this much of a fool as well,” she commented coldly, then stared back down at Alex. ”Any last words?” she asked.

”Beauty! Please—” He couldn’t finish his statement. A dagger suddenly materialized in Nova’s hand, and with ruthless precision, she grabbed him by his hair, exposing his neck, and slit his throat in one swift motion.

Blood rushed down Alex’s throat as his eyes widened in absolute shock. His body collapsed heavily onto the cold floor, his lifeless eyes still staring up at Nova.

”You didn’t seem to be in the same world as others, your responses were irritating,” Nova murmured nonchalantly, wiping the blade as she stared at the terrified remaining three.

”Brother!”

”Alex!”

Everyone’s blood froze, their eyes widening in unspeakable horror. The tension in the gas station peaked into an unbearable, suffocating terror.

”I will kill you!” Mrs. Sunny shouted, rushing furiously toward Nova. Just as she was a few meters away, the dagger in Nova’s hand seamlessly morphed into a small gun, and then—

Bang!

She shot Mrs. Sunny squarely in the head, watching with cold satisfaction as her body dropped lifelessly to the concrete floor. ”It’s not like you were a good Samaritan,” she commented, smiling widely at the carnage.

”Wife!”

Mr. Sunny screamed, hot tears streaming down his face. In a fit of pure agony, he snatched up the gun that Alex had dropped on the floor earlier and pointed it directly at Nova.

Nova raised an eyebrow, staring unfazed at the weeping Mr. Sunny. ”Did you make a mistake? You should point it at her, not me,” she said, casually pointing a finger at Viona.

Suddenly, it was as if Mr. Sunny’s body were being entirely controlled by an unseen, demonic force. Against his own will, his arms rigidly turned, directing the barrel of the gun squarely at the shivering Viona.

Even though he was desperately forcing himself to aim it back at Nova, his muscles locked up, and he realized with horror that he no longer had any control over his own body.

”What... what is going on?” he thought in panic, trapped inside his own flesh.

Viona shivered violently, backing away. ”What... what are you doing? Even though I’m not your real daughter, you shouldn’t point a gun at me! Go after the murderer of your sons!” she said in her loudest, most desperate voice.
