Demon Cultivator in Abyssal Era

Chapter 199: Chapter 140: Gamble (Part 3)

”That’s right.”

The Baron smiled and said, ”Sir, are you in or out?”

”I...” Lin Ji opened his mouth, feeling dry and parched, as if his throat were blocked, unable to make a sound.

A hundred chips!

If he wanted to keep playing, he would have to bet his entire fortune!

Moreover, for the Baron to offer such a high amount, it meant he was extremely confident in his hand!

”Calm down, calm down.”

Lin Ji kept telling himself to stay calm, taking deep breaths repeatedly.

His mind was calculating frantically. He already had the largest flush; only a full house (three of a kind plus a pair), four of a kind, or a straight flush (consecutive sequence of the same suit) could beat him!

And with the five cards on the table all different, the Baron couldn’t possibly have a full house or four of a kind, which meant only a straight flush could win!

He glanced at the community cards; the three club cards were 4, 6, and 8, meaning the Baron’s hand would have to be precisely the club 5 and club 7 to beat him!

The odds were as low as winning the lottery, calculated at a probability of one in a thousand!

He couldn’t believe such a coincidence would happen.

”The Baron’s hand is most likely the same flush as mine!”

”I’ll crush him with my club ace!”

Lin Ji suddenly looked up and asked for the last time, ”Baron, do you dare to swear to the Gambling God that you haven’t used any cheating methods in this game and that our cards were dealt completely randomly?”

”Of course,” the Baron laughed, ”I never cheat in gambling.”

Hearing his answer, Lin Ji hesitated no more, biting his teeth fiercely, ”I’m in!”

”But it seems you’re short on chips,” the Baron smiled.

”I’ll use my equipment for it!”

Lin Ji took off a piece of Perfect equipment and exchanged it for chips, but he was still short by more than twenty.

He turned to Song Lichuan, ”Brother Song, give me the chips I had before.”

Song Lichuan frowned, ”That’s our trump card for survival; we agreed not to touch it before, didn’t we?”

”I know, but... Brother Song, trust me this time!”

Song Lichuan thought for a moment, then shook his head, ”No, the rules can’t be changed once set.”

Hearing this, Lin Ji’s face turned dark, and he said in a deep voice, ”Brother Song, the chips are only in your custody; how to use them is my decision. Are you trying to take my chips for yourself?”

Lin Ji’s blunt words made Song Lichuan slightly stunned, then he looked up and gave him a deep glance, saying no more, but raised his hand and returned Lin Ji’s chips, meant to ensure passing the trial.

As Lin Ji placed the chips on the table, it was finally time to reveal the cards.

His heart was pounding so loudly that everyone present could clearly hear the rapid ”thump, thump” of his heartbeat.

”Click.”

The Notary stepped forward and picked up the Baron’s cards.

Then, under everyone’s tense gaze, slowly placed them on the table.

It was a pair of sixes.

Smaller than Lin Ji’s, much smaller, and not even a flush.

”Ha ha, hahaha, hahahaha!”

Unable to help himself, Lin Ji burst into laughter, collapsing into his chair as if exhausted, his back already soaked with sweat.

”You really had a big hand,” the Baron showed a look of frustration on his face, ”I thought my three of a kind was enough.”

”Hehe.” Lin Ji happily scooped up all the chips into his arms.

Then he proudly raised his eyebrows toward Song Lichuan, ”How about that, Brother Song? I told you to trust me, didn’t I? Am I the kind of fool who would gamble recklessly?”

Song Lichuan didn’t reply, just looked at the Baron’s cards, his brows furrowing tighter.

Three of a kind is indeed not a small hand, and a gamble isn’t odd in this case.

But the problem is, with five community cards showing three of the same suit, it’s very easy to make a flush, making three of a kind not a big hand at all.

Could an experienced gambler like the Baron not know this?

Not to mention, Song Lichuan also doubted that he couldn’t see Lin Ji’s clumsy performance.

While he was pondering, the Baron’s gentle voice reached the three again, ”Want to play again?”

”Yes!”

Lin Ji replied without hesitation.

...

Meanwhile, at the same moment, the Knight, along with the castle’s Guard Team, arrived at the town center.

Everyone stared in shock at the scene of bodies strewn everywhere and the nearly destroyed town.

Hovering quietly above the ruins was Chu Xiu, who had been waiting for a long time.
