Demon Cultivator in Abyssal Era

Chapter 193: Chapter 139: Hidden Quest, the Baron’s Gamble (Part 2)

At this moment, his Life Chips had already accumulated to 97.

When he blasted another boss with a punch and took his Life Chips, scrounging out 14 chips in total, a prompt sounded in his ear.

[With over a hundred chips in possession, a hidden task is unlocked.]

[Hidden Task: Baron’s Wager]

[Description: After possessing more than two hundred Destiny Chips, the Baron will send someone to invite you to the Golden Hall to participate in the wager hosted by him personally.]

[Perhaps you can use your gambling skills and wit to win your desired items from the Baron’s treasure trove.]

The prompt that appeared before him caused Chu Xiu’s expression to change slightly.

In the initial trial mission, there was an extra task to gather as many chips as possible. It turns out that reaching one hundred chips would trigger the next phase.

”Baron’s Wager, huh...”

Chu Xiu stroked his chin.

Actually, if he just laid low now, he could pass the trial directly when the time limit ended.

However, with numerous life-saving artifacts in hand, Chu Xiu naturally had the right to try and gain more benefits.

Given his current speed, grabbing another hundred chips wasn’t difficult, meaning Chu Xiu could challenge this hidden task at any time.

However, he wasn’t planning to gamble against the Baron. He had a clear understanding of his own gambling skills and luck, and was sure he couldn’t beat these old foxes.

Chu Xiu aimed to stick to his own path, fighting to the end!

”These commoners are exploited, killing them is slow and yields nothing good.”

”If I make a move, it should be against the ruling class!”

However, although Chu Xiu was determined, he wasn’t arrogant, and carefully analyzed the comparison of enemy and his own strength.

The gamblers and low-tier notaries in the city were not worth mentioning, but the dozens of well-equipped fierce-tier Guard Team members and numerous Warrior Tier members couldn’t be ignored.

The real trouble was the nobles in the castle!

”Based on the information I gathered, the Knights are usually Fierce Tier, the top Knights are at the peak of Fierce Tier, and the Baron is at the General Tier!”

”As high-tier gamblers, they would have stronger Blessings from the Gambling God, and exclusive notaries who were usually stronger than their gambling hosts! Besides maintaining the fairness of the wagers, they are also responsible for ensuring their safety.”

This is the biggest difference between Knight Tier gamblers and ordinary Fierce Tier.

After silently calculating the situation in his mind, Chu Xiu concluded: ”Facing them head-on entails too many variables!”

The main uncertainty was with the Baron’s actual strength as a General Tier.

A normal General Tier creature would have the power of a 700 Constitution Royal Elite Corpse Demon, even an advanced General Tier would at most reach the level of a Corpse King.

In a one-on-one scenario, Chu Xiu wasn’t afraid. Even if facing an exceptionally strong Baron, he could still ensure his life with the mythic-level Heaven-Reaching Blood Vine and Blood of Immortality.

”But if he teams up with his minions to attack en masse, the outcome of the battle could be unpredictable.”

”To be cautious, I should find a way to employ a tactic of breaking them up one by one, trying to deplete the enemy’s strength in a dispersed manner.”

This hidden task might just be a tool he could use.

After some contemplation, Chu Xiu had a plan in mind.

He turned around and headed to the meeting spot agreed upon with the other three Trial Takers.

Soon, he reunited with the other three.

Everyone exchanged information, and all three had found a suitable wager with a chance of winning.

”So next, let’s proceed with the plan we discussed earlier.”

”Brother Chen, will you join us?”

Song Lichuan once again extended an invitation to Chu Xiu.

All three felt that Chu Xiu had no reason to refuse, as collaboration seemed the better option from every angle.

But...

”Sorry, I still prefer to act alone first,” Chu Xiu said calmly.

After saying this, he cupped his hands in farewell and left.

This caused a hint of anger to flash across Lin Ji’s brow.

”This guy is so overly cautious, doesn’t he realize our status means we wouldn’t go out of our way to harm him for no reason?”

”Sneaky and covering his face, I’d like to see if he can clear a Knight Tier wager alone!”

Watching Chu Xiu’s departing back, Lin Ji’s disdain and dislike increased slightly.

In his view, the high status of the three of them meant inviting Chu Xiu multiple times had already given him enough face, yet he still didn’t appreciate it!

This was no longer caution, but stupidity!

”Forget it, he has his own plans, we should just mind our own business,” Song Lichuan said nonchalantly, waving his hand.

Seeing him speak, Lin Ji said nothing more. Subsequently, the three of them began participating in the wagers they had previously investigated and assessed to have high chances of winning.

Though unlike Chu Xiu who could forcefully clear, they each had their own unique skills and had examined the situations thoroughly in advance, so their odds of winning were not low.

For instance, there was one game involving throwing knives at a spinning disc the size of a basin from fifty meters away, with different parts of the disc representing different points. The house and gambler took turns throwing darts, and the one with the higher score won.

While fifty meters was quite a distance, with their Attributes, hitting the target parts was still easy, but the key to the game was that the disc was covered with a specially-made opaque black cloth. This way, no one could see the disc’s status or know its spinning speed, making precise throws useless.

At first glance, it seemed like a game entirely dependent on luck, but actually, no matter how delicate the mechanism rotating the disc was, the axle couldn’t be completely seamless. Different parts would emit slightly different sounds as it turned, but these differences were incredibly subtle and drawn out over fifty meters, making it impossible for ordinary people to hear them.
