Urban Seduction: Housewives Club

Chapter 1176: Chapter 1176: Movements from All Sides (1)

While Ye Fei was indulging in his pleasures, his actions had caused many people to spend a sleepless night.

First and foremost was the ”victim” of this ”rape case,” Gu Yanping. After the police had collected evidence, she did not leave Wanghai but remained in that suite.

She was well aware that what she had done must have already reached Ye Fei’s ears, and perhaps at any moment, retaliation from the Lingyun Association could come knocking. She was, in essence, teetering on the edge of extreme danger, even death.

Yet, despite this, Gu Yanping did not leave. Instead, she somewhat hoped that Ye Fei’s retribution would come swiftly, as it would bring her a strange sense of relief.

No matter how strong-willed she was, one fact remained unchangeable: Gu Yanping was a woman, and before this incident, she had been a virgin.

How could she not have some feelings for her first man? Especially when that man was as powerful and gentle as Ye Fei.

So every time she closed her eyes, she would involuntarily recall his tender gaze and the boundless pleasure he had given her. If not for the enmity between them, she might very well have fallen for him, just as Lin Ling had suggested.

But now, she had framed him.

Torn by conflicting emotions, Gu Yanping even felt an urge to atone for her sins with her life. However, since she had yet to see the outcome and her obsession with revenge still influenced her, she did not act on such a drastic thought for the time being.

Gu Yanping tossed and turned in bed, while others didn’t even have the luxury of lying down.

Though it was already late at night, the conference room of the Wanghai Public Security Bureau was filled with quite a few people. Each one of them was a prominent figure; in ordinary times, they would either be all smiles or stern and serious, exuding an air of authority.

But at this moment, each of them sat there with furrowed brows, smoking incessantly, yet no one spoke a word.

After a long while, a man in his fifties or sixties, seated at the head of the table, finally spoke up. ”Let’s hear everyone’s opinions. How should we handle this matter?”

This man was none other than the director of the Wanghai Public Security Bureau. He was quite troubled at the moment.

On the verge of retirement, he had been looking forward to a peaceful life in the Political Consultative Conference.

However, he never expected to encounter such a headache-inducing situation at the last minute. If not handled properly, it could lead to utter ruin!

”Needless to say, what are the police for? No matter who it is, if they break the law, they should be treated equally. So I suggest we arrest Ye Fei as soon as possible!”

After a brief period of collective silence, a deputy director was the first to speak.

This deputy director, surnamed Zhang, had a son named Zhang Yu, who was currently in prison, his future in tatters, all because of Ye Fei. Naturally, he harbored intense hatred for Ye Fei.

Hearing Deputy Director Zhang’s words, another deputy director, who had always been at odds with him, sneered, ”Easier said than done. Why don’t you go and arrest him?”

”I...” Deputy Director Zhang was immediately at a loss for words.

Although he detested Ye Fei and wished him dead, the thought of personally arresting Ye Fei was out of the question. It was a death sentence, and even if he died, no one would dare speak up for him.

Despite his position as deputy director, which seemed powerful to ordinary people, it was nothing in the face of ”The King of the Southeast,” Ye Fei.

Seeing Deputy Director Zhang’s embarrassment, none of the others present came to his defense. Instead, they all watched him with a sense of schadenfreude.

In reality, all of them, including the deputy director who had just mocked Zhang, were deeply dissatisfied with Ye Fei.

In the past, when Wanghai was still chaotic, people from all walks of life would seek their protection, bringing them substantial benefits.

However, with Ye Fei’s emergence, Wanghai, a metropolis that had been a hotbed of intrigue and hidden currents since the early 20th century, had transformed into one of the most orderly cities in the country and even the world.

Crime had no place to thrive here, and as a result, legitimate businessmen no longer needed their protection.

Consequently, these figures, who either served as protectors for the underworld or guardians for the authorities, had lost their additional sources of income. How could they not resent Ye Fei? They just dared not voice their grievances.

Even now that Ye Fei had allegedly committed a crime, none of these so-called crime fighters dared to take the lead. Instead, they all took pleasure in watching Deputy Director Zhang’s predicament.

It would be ideal if he became the scapegoat, but even if he didn’t, they could still take the opportunity to belittle him. After all, these deputies were all vying for position.

Feeling the weight of everyone’s gaze, Deputy Director Zhang’s face quickly turned red with embarrassment. However, he did not dare to do anything and could only say, ”This is a criminal case. I’m not in charge of criminal investigations. Why should I be the one to make the arrest?”

As soon as Deputy Director Zhang spoke these words, the others’ contempt for him only grew.

If the deputy director in charge of criminal investigation were present, they wouldn’t have to rack their brains over this issue. After all, the youngest among the deputy directors, Director Ming, was Ye Fei’s sworn sister.

Unfortunately, she had gone to further her studies after the New Year, and by the time she returned, she was likely to succeed the soon-to-retire director and become the new head of the bureau.

In just a few short months, Ming Yuexin had soared from being a deputy director of a small branch to a deputy director of the municipal bureau, and now she was on the verge of taking another step forward. It might sound like a fairy tale, but everyone present understood the reality of the situation. After all, she had found such an influential sworn brother.

Initially, the old director had been quite discontented with Ming Yuexin’s rapid rise. After all, he still held power in his current position, even if the benefits were gone.

It was better than retiring to the Political Consultative Conference. He could have stayed on for a few more years, but he had to step down early to make way for her.

Now, however, he began to complain about those outdated rules. Since she was coming up anyway, why bother with further studies? If she had taken over right after the New Year, it would have been a matter between siblings, and there would be no need for everyone to be here, racking their brains.

After a long and lackluster discussion, they finally reached a consensus: Ye Fei had to be detained for investigation. Otherwise, they would all lose face. However, when it came to who would take the lead, they kept passing the buck, and no conclusion was reached.

Apart from the people directly involved, many others with vested interests also learned of the news in the first place.

In the capital, in the Qi family residence, Qi Lao Ye sat quietly in his study, rhythmically tapping his fingers on the back of the sofa.

At nearly eighty years old, he would usually have been asleep by this hour, but today he had no desire to sleep.
