Urban Seduction: Housewives Club

Chapter 978: Over-the-Top Actions

At this thought, the young man couldnʼt help but get excited and quickly interjected, ”Jingwen, since you miss your good friends so much, why donʼt we go see them after the New Year?”

Lan Wen glanced at him and said indifferently, ”Didnʼt you hear me? My mom doesnʼt want me to go over there. Are you suggesting I go against her wishes?”

”Ah? Letʼs talk about it later then, talk about it later,” Zhang Tao said awkwardly, but inwardly he cursed: ”Who does she think she is? Once I get her into bed, sheʼll do whatever I say!”

Little did the scheming Zhang Tao know that Lan Wenʼs refusal indirectly saved his life. Ye Fei had been so focused on Lan Wen that he hadnʼt noticed Zhang Taoʼs despicable thoughts.

If Lan Wen had agreed to visit Ye Siqi and the others and then spoken up, there was no way Ye Fei wouldnʼt have seen through his little schemes.

And if Ye Fei had found out that this guy dared to even fantasize about his beloved sisters, he wouldnʼt have let him see the next dayʼs sun.

Having hit a wall with Lan Wen, Zhang Tao wasnʼt entirely without gains. At least he realized that Lan Wen was a very filial and obedient girl who listened to her mother. So he decided to take the mother-in-law route.

”You two keep chatting. Iʼll go see if thereʼs anything I can help Auntie with in the kitchen,” Zhang Tao said, then got up and walked into the kitchen.

Watching Zhang Tao leave, Ye Fei suddenly whispered with a smile, ”Sister Wen, it looks like youʼre in trouble.”

”What do you mean?” Lan Wen was puzzled.

Ye Fei nodded towards the kitchen, ”This guy is probably going to cling to you like a leech in the future.”

Lan Wen was taken aback, her pretty face showing a hint of panic as she quickly said, ”Youʼve got to be kidding me. Heʼs my boyfriend. Why would he need to cling to me like that?”

”A real boyfriend wouldnʼt, but one whoʼs just trying to get by might not be so sure,” Ye Fei said with a smile.

”Ah? You noticed?” Lan Wen was even more flustered. ”Did I not act convincingly enough?”

”Of course not. Whereʼs the girlfriend who would chat so animatedly with another guy in front of her boyfriend, without caring about his feelings?” Ye Fei replied.

”Oh, I see,” Lan Wenʼs pretty face immediately fell. ”But how can I act more convincingly?”

”Itʼs simple. Just be more affectionate with him,” Ye Fei continued with a smile.

”Pfft!” Lan Wen snorted. ”Iʼd rather let my mom see through it.”

”Alright, Iʼll cover for you later,” Ye Fei decided to play the good guy.

”Youʼre such a good brother!” Lan Wen immediately cheered up, then she examined Ye Fei up and down and said, ”Now I kind of believe those rumors.”

”What rumors?” Ye Fei asked, puzzled.

”The rumors about you,” Lan Wen said.

”Everyoneʼs been talking about how amazing Ye Fei from Wanghai Lingyun Society is. Itʼs like youʼve been turned into a god. I didnʼt believe it at first. I thought the elders were just hyping you up on purpose.”

”Why did you think that?” Ye Fei asked with interest. He had thought Lan Wen didnʼt know about him at all, given how casually she was acting.

Now it seemed she knew everything, which made Ye Fei appreciate her even more—she was just like Aunt Zhang, someone who didnʼt care about status and only valued feelings.

Lan Wen laughed, ”Because I just couldnʼt imagine that the frail little kid who could be blown over by the wind back then would grow up to be so amazing in just a few years.”

Feeling underestimated, Ye Fei was a bit downcast and continued, ”So, do you believe it now?”

”A bit. At least your observational skills are quite extraordinary,” Lan Wen replied, then asked nosily, ”Come on, tell your sister, are those rumors about you true?”

”Of course theyʼre true!” Ye Fei said arrogantly. ”Iʼm a real hero now. Even the national leaders have to be polite to me!”

”Is that so? That impressive? Then let your sister see what makes this hero different from others!” Ye Feiʼs honesty didnʼt convince Lan Wen but instead made her giggle coquettishly as she reached out a small hand to pinch Ye Feiʼs nose.

Ye Fei quickly dodged backward, but Lan Wen chased after him. By the time she finally pinched Ye Fei, he was almost lying on the sofa, with Lan Wenʼs entire body lying on top of him.

At that moment, Zhang Tao came out of the kitchen. Seeing this scene, his face darkened. He coughed loudly and said, ”Dinnerʼs ready!” Then he slammed the two dishes he was holding onto the table.

Aunt Zhang, who came out afterward, also saw this.

A hint of regret flashed in her eyes. Her ideal son-in-law had always been Ye Fei, not because of his family background or abilities, but because she knew this child, whom she had watched grow up, very well.

Despite coming from a wealthy family, he had no spoiled rich kid attitude and was very kind and sensible.

Unfortunately, the age gap between her daughter and Ye Fei was just too big—eight years, with her daughter being the older one. The idea of them getting together was simply impossible.

Reminded by someone, Lan Wen quickly got up from Ye Fei, her pretty face turning red. She realized that she had gone a bit too far.

After all, Ye Fei was no longer the little boy from over six years ago. He had grown into a young man taller than her by half a head.

Compared to Lan Wen, Ye Fei had much thicker skin. He got up without any concern, straightened his clothes that Lan Wen had wrinkled, and then ran into the kitchen to help serve the dishes.

This time, Zhang Tao didnʼt go into the kitchen again. After Ye Fei and Aunt Zhang left, he couldnʼt help but ask Lan Wen, ”What exactly is your relationship? Why are you acting so intimately?”

It wasnʼt surprising that he was upset. Having been colleagues with Lan Wen for a long time and being the girl he had always wanted to pursue, he naturally knew a lot about her.

He knew that she had never let a man touch her, not even a handshake, which was very common in modern times.
