Urban Seduction: Housewives Club

Chapter 326 A Temporary Bodyguard

Driving leisurely down the main road, Ye Fei lounged comfortably in his seat, humming a tune he couldnʼt quite place while observing the passersby outside.

It was already November, but the weather in Wang Hai City was still quite warm, especially at noon, when the temperature was not much cooler than in summer.

As a result, pedestrians were dressed lightly, and the sight of numerous women in short skirts was quite pleasing to the eye.

Although their looks might be ordinary, each tried to present their best selves, which looked quite good from a distance.

Up close, however, it was a different story.

In Wang Hai City, the few beauties who could withstand close inspection were probably already gathered around him.

Just as Ye Fei was enjoying what he thought would be a relaxing afternoon, his phone suddenly rang. Glancing at the caller ID, he couldnʼt help but grin mischievously as he answered, ”Ningsuan, missing me?”

”Ye Fei, are you busy right now?” Ye Ningsuanʼs voice on the other end was quite serious, indicating that she wasnʼt alone.

Understanding that his aunt couldnʼt be too affectionate over the phone, Ye Fei dropped his teasing tone and replied, ”Not at all, just hanging out on the street.”

”Thatʼs great,” Ye Ningsuan said, sounding relieved.

”Could you pick someone up for me at the airport at three? Sheʼs the daughter of a good friend of mine and is coming to Wang Hai City today. Take care of her after you pick her up and then accompany her to the Harborside Building for an exhibition tonight. Sheʼll fill you in on the details. Weʼll meet there.”

Without waiting for Ye Fei to object, she hung up. Shortly after, she sent him a text message with information about the person he was supposed to pick up.

Ye Fei couldnʼt help but sigh wryly.

What a day! He had finally managed to steal some free time, only to be saddled with this errand.

And to make matters worse, he wouldnʼt be able to go home in the evening. He had planned to spend the night with his mom.

After reading the information Ye Ningsuan had sent, Ye Feiʼs smile turned even more resigned.

The girl he was supposed to pick up, named Xu Weier, was not only a newcomer in the entertainment industry but also required his protection as a bodyguard.

This has got to be a joke, Ye Fei thought to himself.

Who in this world could possibly qualify to have me as their bodyguard?

If the person he was supposed to protect had been a gentle and lovely girl, it might have been different.

But from the photos, it was clear that Xu Weier was the mischievous type.

Although she was beautiful, did he really need more beautiful women around him?

Despite his internal complaints, Ye Fei had no choice but to head towards the airport.

After all, this was a favor from Ye Ningsuan, and he couldnʼt very well refuse her. Otherwise, she might not let him into her bed next time.

To avoid missing the flight and failing at his first bodyguard job, Ye Fei arrived at the airport at half past two and began the tedious wait.

To pass the time, he even started counting the number of planes taking off and landing.

Finally, when Ye Fei had counted up to the thirty-seventh plane, a passenger jet from Gan City in the northwest of Longguo slowly descended.

Ye Fei quickly shifted his attention to the incoming plane and soon spotted the person he was waiting for.

To his amusement, Xu Weier, dragging a small suitcase, was wearing a long trench coat and large sunglasses in the sweltering weather.

If it werenʼt for Ye Feiʼs keen eyesight, he might have had trouble recognizing her.

Watching Xu Weier move cautiously, Ye Fei wanted to tell her that as a newcomer, even if she wore a sign with her name on it, it was doubtful anyone would know who she was.

But since it was their first meeting, he refrained from saying so. Instead, he approached her politely and asked, ”Hello, are you Miss Xu?”

Xu Weier took a step back, eyeing Ye Fei warily. ”Who are you?” she asked.

”Iʼm here to pick you up. The car is outside. Please, Miss Xu,” Ye Fei said, gesturing for her to lead the way and preparing to take her suitcase.

”Wait!” Xu Weier dodged again, took out her phone, and said, ”Let me make a call first. Otherwise, how do I know youʼre not a bad person?”

With that, she dialed a number and stepped aside to talk quietly.

After her call, Xu Weier approached Ye Fei and asked, ”Ye Fei?” Seeing him nod, she finally relaxed and handed him her suitcase.

”So youʼre the bodyguard Mom and Auntie Ye found for me. Youʼre pretty handsome, but why do you have the same surname as Auntie Ye?”

Ye Fei had anticipated that this girl would be difficult to deal with, so he didnʼt get angry at her words. He replied with a wry smile, ”Iʼm a relative of hers.”

He thought to himself that Ye Ningsuan had some nerve calling him a bodyguard. He would have to teach her a lesson when they met later!

”I thought so. You donʼt look like a bodyguard at all. Youʼre a connection,” Xu Weier said knowingly. ”Although youʼre handsome, being a bodyguard isnʼt just about looks.”

”What does Miss Xu think makes a good bodyguard, then?” Ye Fei couldnʼt help but ask. Even though he wasnʼt really a bodyguard, it was hard to swallow being looked down upon by someone he had just met.

”Of course, itʼs someone who looks cool and is very alert,” Xu Weier said, pouting. ”Not like you, all laid-back!”

”Alright!” Ye Fei let out a bitter chuckle and said nothing more. He realized that despite entering the complex world of entertainment, this girl was quite innocent.

Almost all her knowledge seemed to come from TV, which was why she thought bodyguards had to look cool.

Although Ye Fei didnʼt want to say anything more, Xu Weier wasnʼt about to let him off the hook.

After walking just a few steps, she wiped the fine sweat from her forehead irritably and complained, ”Why is it so hot in this dump?”

Ye Fei replied with a hint of exasperation, ”Miss, have you looked at what youʼre wearing? No wonder youʼre hot!”

Xu Weier glanced at her trench coat and then at the short sleeves of the people around her, realizing she had indeed wronged the weather.

But having just arrived from Gan City, where it was already cold, she hadnʼt noticed the difference.

Although she knew she was wrong, Xu Weier wasnʼt about to admit it.

She glared at Ye Fei and said, ”You lousy bodyguard, how dare you talk to me like that? Do you think I wonʼt complain and get you fired?”

”I donʼt believe you. Iʼm a connection. Your complaints wonʼt do any good!” Ye Fei said indifferently.

This girl had been annoying him for a while, and it was about time he got back at her.

To his surprise, Xu Weier didnʼt get angry.

Instead, she said excitedly, ”Thatʼs right! Now youʼre acting like a bodyguard. I guess my guidance is working!”

Ye Fei was completely defeated.

This girlʼs way of thinking couldnʼt be understood with common sense. However, she was quite adorable, and a faint smile appeared at the corner of his mouth.

Amidst Xu Weierʼs complaints, the two quickly left the airport and got into Ye Feiʼs car.

Only then did Xu Weier let out a sigh of relief, take off her trench coat, and remove her large sunglasses.

Ye Fei was somewhat taken aback by her appearance. She was even more beautiful than in her photos, and her figure was excellent, comparable to the beauties around him.

Xu Weier, who lacked worldly experience, felt a bit uncomfortable under Ye Feiʼs direct gaze.

Her face turned slightly red, and she glared at him, saying, ”What are you looking at? Let me tell you, donʼt have any unrealistic thoughts. Although youʼre handsome and related to Auntie Ye, thereʼs no possibility between us. Iʼve never even considered that kind of thing. Iʼm going to devote myself entirely to my acting career and become the new generationʼs pure and innocent leading lady!”

Looking at the confident Xu Weier, Ye Fei couldnʼt help but roll his eyes inwardly.

Pure and innocent? More like a temptress in the making!

But to be fair, this girl had great potential to be an idol star. She was beautiful, so no need for plastic surgery; she had a good figure, so no need for breast enhancements; and she had a wealthy father, so no need to find a sugar daddy.

If she became famous, she might just be able to live up to the title of a true pure and innocent leading lady.

”Miss Xu, shall we head straight to the Harborside Building, or take a drive around Wang Hai City first?” Ye Fei asked, ignoring her previous remark and focusing on her itinerary.

”Of course weʼll drive around. Why go to that dump so early?” Xu Weier replied without hesitation. ”I donʼt know what Mom was thinking, making me attend this so-called exhibition. Whatʼs there to see? Itʼs just a way for them to show off and try to get a good price.”

”I think your mom probably has your career in mind. These gatherings are attended by many celebrities, which can greatly help boost your fame,” Ye Fei said, though he agreed with Xu Weierʼs earlier comment. He had no fondness for such jewelry exhibitions.

As she had said, they were nothing more than a way to create hype and get a good price, or perhaps not even sell at all, just to show off.

Xu Weier disdainfully curled her lips and said, ”I didnʼt join this industry for those so-called celebrities. Iʼm here for the ordinary people. Whatʼs the use of increasing my popularity among them?”

From this remark, Ye Fei realized that Xu Weier wasnʼt just chasing after vanity. She truly loved this line of work. He began to feel a sense of approval for her and decided that if he had the chance, he would help her.

Perhaps she really could bring a breath of fresh air to this sordid industry.

After driving around for a while, as the sky began to darken, the two finally arrived at the Harborside Building, located in the southeast of Wang Hai City.

This building was constructed by a wealthy individual slightly less prominent than the Liu and Ye families. It was a comprehensive five-star hotel.

The reason the jewelry owners chose this place instead of the more secure Liu or Ye family properties was because both Liu Yiru and Ye Ningsuan understood Ye Feiʼs character.

They knew he had no interest in such exhibitions and would never take on this kind of business, despite the potential benefits. They were simply not tempted.

Upon arriving at the entrance of the building, the two encountered a dilemma. Ye Fei didnʼt have an invitation, and Xu Weier, being a relatively minor celebrity, wasnʼt able to bring someone in with her.

”Why donʼt we just wait here? Auntie Ye and my mom will come, and theyʼll definitely be able to get you in,” Xu Weier suggested.

After spending a few hours together, she had already come to see Ye Fei as a friend. She didnʼt have many friends, so she cherished them and was even willing to wait outside for him.

It was then that Ye Fei realized Xu Weierʼs mother was also in Wang Hai City. When Ye Ningsuan had called him, the person beside her must have been Xu Weierʼs mother.

He wondered if his aunt had forgotten to give him an invitation or if she had deliberately not given him one and still asked him to accompany Xu Weier here.

”You go in first. Iʼll find a way. Iʼll meet you inside,” Ye Fei said confidently. He couldnʼt let Xu Weier wait outside. If his aunt saw that he couldnʼt get in, she would surely tease him.

It had to be said that Ye Feiʼs chauvinistic tendencies were quite pronounced. He could remain perfectly calm in public, but when it came to his women, he didnʼt want to lose face.

Seeing the confident look on Ye Feiʼs face, Xu Weier believed him without hesitation. She nodded and said, ”Hurry up and come in. Iʼll wait for you in the lobby.”

Then she went inside, got her invitation checked, and stood in a corner of the lobby, waiting for Ye Fei.

Since she disliked such gatherings, Xu Weier hadnʼt dressed up. She was still wearing her simple casual outfit, which made her stand out in the lobby filled with people in formal attire.

However, because she was exceptionally beautiful, this only added to her charm and made her the most eye-catching figure in the hall.

Many men, thinking themselves charming, approached her to strike up a conversation.

Using the etiquette she had just learned to deal with these men, Xu Weier felt both disgusted and nervous.

Although she had made up her mind to be a true pure and innocent star, she was still new to the industry and had rarely left home before.

Naturally, she was anxious in this unfamiliar place.

At this moment, Xu Weier unexpectedly missed Ye Fei.

If he were by her side, she wouldnʼt have to deal with these troubles, would she?

Just as Xu Weier was thinking about Ye Fei, she suddenly felt a hand on her shoulder and jumped in fright, quickly dodging to the side. When she saw that it was Ye Fei, her eyes lit up with delight, and she asked, ”How did you get in so quickly?”
