Chapter 318: Jiraiya: Your Uncle Is Probably Going to Die Here

Why are there so few ninja?

On one hand, some people simply lack talent. On the other hand, if there were too many ninja, the consumption of resources would be terrifying.

A Great Nation usually only has one ninja village because the existence of that village itself requires the support of the entire nation.

Putting everything else aside, the problem of food alone is enough to crush countless small countries.

Amamiya Kenichi ate a lot. His teacher ate a lot. Ninja ate a lot. That meant food consumption was enormous. Just look at the Akimichi Clan’s daily intake. Ninja were basically a bunch of monsters.

Even outside the Akimichi Clan, the food consumption of ordinary ninja was astonishing. A normal ninja’s daily intake was several times that of an ordinary person, and during battle, they consumed even more.

The saying that wars are fought on logistics was even more true in the Ninja World.

”There isn’t much food. Although it’s not as cold near the capital now, the reserves have never been high. And after that bastard’s rebellion before, a lot was consumed. Right now, the entire capital only has enough food left for half a year,” Kazahana Koyuki answered quickly.

She handled government affairs very diligently. After all, those were Amamiya Kenichi’s requirements, and Kazahana Koyuki had carried them out very well.

”Half a year?” Amamiya Kenichi sighed.

Half a year sounded like a long time, but in reality, it was very short. Extremely short.

There were not many ninja in the Land of Snow right now, so the food could last for half a year. But if Amamiya Kenichi truly began mass producing ninja on a large scale, then a major problem would immediately appear.

There would not be enough food.

And then what?

Setting aside the issue of looting, the newly transformed ninja would still need a period of training, and daily training consumed both money and food. Those were all expenses.

With only half a year’s worth of food, if the number of ninja rose sharply, it would probably all be gone within a month.

What kind of force could be trained in a single month? It wasn’t as if they could start by awakening the Mangekyo Sharingan right away. And even if they did, how much strength would that really give them? If a child were handed a Mangekyo, could he perform like Uchiha Madara?

Naturally not.

”This won’t do. I need to find a way around this.” Amamiya Kenichi sat in his chair, deep in thought.

The food problem had to be solved. If it couldn’t be solved, then the idea of a ninja army was nothing more than a joke.

Even if the Five Great Nations focused on large scale food production, it would only help a little, not much.

Even with the improved rice Amamiya Kenichi had developed, it still would not be enough to support his ideas.

”But maybe I can first form an elite force, prioritizing quality over quantity. After taking over the Land of Water, I can consider expanding the ninja force further. At the same time, the agricultural problem also needs to be solved.” Amamiya Kenichi nodded to himself.

Since the Land of Snow could not currently support a massive ninja army, then building a smaller elite force should still be possible.

And he could also transform the original ninja of the Land of Snow.

”First gather the ninja who are loyal to you and implant them with parasite eggs. Use the middle tier ones,” Amamiya Kenichi said, quickly deciding on his next step.

Assembling a small army was definitely possible. Otherwise, there would be no way to take down the Hidden Mist Village.

Although he could rely on his own strength to suppress them, governing a country still required manpower. That made the existence of a ninja force absolutely necessary.

”Yes, Master.” Kazahana Koyuki looked at Amamiya Kenichi’s serious expression, and her own face became serious as well. She quickly finished her meal and hurried out to carry out his orders.

She had thought about doing this before, but because she had never received Amamiya Kenichi’s command, she had not acted.

”Hehe, this is also a good chance to teach those disobedient little brats a lesson.” Kazahana Koyuki walked away with a smile, but her eyes were icy cold.

Amamiya Kenichi had no idea what Kazahana Koyuki was currently thinking. He was busy playing with Uchiha Hikari.

This little girl was especially clingy to him, but Amamiya Kenichi had firmly refused to let her follow him into the lab.

After all, he already knew some of her past. With her personality, if she entered a place like a laboratory, it would very likely trigger the worst memories in her heart. That would be troublesome.

”Big Brother Amamiya, what do you think of these gloves?” Uchiha Hikari held up a pair of fluffy gloves.

Amamiya Kenichi took them and glanced at them, then found them a little hard to evaluate.

If Uchiha Hikari had not said they were gloves, he would have thought they were two towels.

”They’re pretty good.” Amamiya Kenichi chuckled and put the gloves away.

This was the first time he had received such a special gift.

Uchiha Hikari immediately smiled even more brightly.

Amamiya Kenichi looked at her and kept feeling that she seemed oddly familiar. He really felt as if he had heard that name somewhere before.

”I wonder what Teacher is doing right now.” Amamiya Kenichi stroked his chin.

He was not too worried about his teacher’s safety. With Orochimaru’s strength, there were very few people in the Ninja World who could truly threaten him.

Still, the fact that he had not been able to find his teacher did make him somewhat concerned. He wondered where Orochimaru had gone during this period.

”Jiraiya, long time no see.”

At that moment, Jiraiya was staring at the person in front of him with a massive headache.

The other party had now reverted to his original appearance, so Jiraiya recognized him immediately.

”...Orochimaru, why are you here?” Jiraiya laughed awkwardly.

He truly had not expected that even after coming to the Land of Earth, he would still run into Orochimaru.

Or had Orochimaru come here specifically to find him?

That thought made Jiraiya a little nervous, because he knew exactly what he had done.

”What are these?” Orochimaru sat down across from Jiraiya with a smile, radiating a chilling killing intent. Then he slapped a bag onto the table.

Jiraiya swallowed hard, then tremblingly opened the bag in front of him.

Inside was none other than [The Story of Me and Princess Orochi That Had to Be Told: Hardcover Illustrated Edition], with a huge 18+ printed on the cover.

It was over.

That was Jiraiya’s first thought.

He knew his own book all too well.

Jiraiya understood perfectly what that was.

It was the hardcover edition of his own work, a masterpiece whose sales had even surpassed his famous [Icha Icha Paradise], causing it to sell out everywhere.

Then the editor had come to him and suggested a collaboration with a famous artist to produce an 18+ hardcover edition with illustrations that simply could not be described.
