Chapter 303: The Byakugan Truly Lives Up to Its Name as One of the Two Great Dōjutsu

Amamiya Kenichi glanced at Koyuki, who was watching Uchiha Shiori’s twitching body with an indifferent expression. Her face showed almost no emotion, as if this kind of violent convulsion was perfectly normal to her.

He took out an experimental logbook and began recording Uchiha Shiori’s condition. After all, this was an extremely valuable first parasitic experiment, and understanding the entire process would be very helpful for his future plans.

”So this is how the parasites work?” Amamiya Kenichi touched his own eyes.

He was still using the Byakugan, so he could clearly see where the parasite was burrowing through Uchiha Shiori’s body, and more importantly, he could also see why her pain was so intense.

The parasite was moving straight toward her spine and brain, forcing its way deeper and deeper. Whenever it encountered flesh and blood, it devoured them directly. That kind of pain was naturally unbearable.

”Master, the sub-parasite enters the host’s brain and spine, then uses them to control the host’s actions and influence the host’s thoughts,” Koyuki said respectfully. The affection and adoration in her eyes were completely undisguised.

Amamiya Kenichi nodded.

The brain and spine were indeed among the most critical parts of the human body. If one wanted to control a person’s thoughts and actions, there was no better place to start.

He glanced at the instrument beside him. Uchiha Shiori’s physical data was changing constantly. Her heart rate had soared into severe tachycardia, yet the readings showed no dangerous symptoms related to it. Even her brainwave patterns had become abnormal.

”Will their autonomy still remain intact at the highest level?” Amamiya Kenichi asked again.

Uchiha Shiori was an excellent servant. As his chief secretary, she handled many cumbersome but nonessential matters for him. If she turned into an idiot, that would become troublesome.

”Yes, Master. Unless you issue a command, the host will not show any abnormalities,” Koyuki replied.

The moment she noticed how much importance Amamiya Kenichi attached to this woman, she felt a faint trace of jealousy, though that emotion belonged only to her own personality and not to the mother parasite itself.

As a member of the insect race, the mother parasite did not understand jealousy. It only understood how to perfectly carry out every order Amamiya Kenichi gave it.

”That’s good.” Amamiya Kenichi nodded.

Although the parasitic process was painful, it would make future control much easier. Moreover, the parasites themselves could assist a ninja’s cultivation. For power-hungry ninja, that was an enormous temptation, and Amamiya Kenichi understood that very well.

Just look at his teacher’s old friend. For power, that man had directly betrayed his village and thrown himself into human experimentation early on, becoming one of Orochimaru’s fellow researchers. And what about all those ninja obsessed with strength? Would they reject parasites?

No.

They would only think about how to reverse the situation, seize control of the parasite instead, and perhaps even fantasize about killing him and turning this power into their own.

There had never been a shortage of arrogant people among ninja. Everyone thought others were ants and only they themselves stood at the summit, right up until they met someone truly strong and were beaten so badly they finally understood that there were always greater people beyond them.

Just look at those three idiots from Otogakure in the original Chunin Exams. They acted as if they were invincible when they first appeared, only to be taught a very fast lesson.

”Is it possible for the sub-parasite to be influenced in reverse?” Amamiya Kenichi asked as he looked at Uchiha Shiori, whose body was gradually calming down.

”No, Master. Once the parasitism succeeds, the sub-parasite settles in the brain. If the host resists too strongly, it can tear the host’s brain and spine apart at any moment,” the mother parasite answered with confidence.

Amamiya Kenichi thought the same way. If the parasite had been that weak, then the Sage of Six Paths probably would not have needed to wipe it out so thoroughly.

After all, that was the Sage of Six Paths, a being who possessed the Rinnegan. His eyes were infinitely stronger than any Mangekyō Sharingan. If even the Sage had found this creature troublesome, ordinary people obviously would not have much chance against it.

Of course, if some exceptionally gifted person truly managed to break free, Amamiya Kenichi could always recruit them and have them work for him instead. And if they refused, then he would have no problem killing them directly.

”How is the Land of Snow doing lately?” Amamiya Kenichi casually asked about the country.

Although the Land of Snow was not particularly strong and its ninja forces were mediocre, its greatest advantage was its remote location overseas. Very few people cared about it.

That made it a perfect place to cultivate a ninja army, or rather, to cultivate his own military force.

Even though Amamiya Kenichi knew that overwhelming strength could make numerical differences meaningless, killing people and ruling a place were still two entirely different matters.

Uchiha Madara was strong, yes. But if he truly wanted to unify the Five Great Nations, he would still need countless people to help him administer them. Unless Madara created an army of clones to handle every city and every province himself, which was absurd. The Ninja World had too many settlements and too many countries. That kind of management work alone would exhaust anyone.

That was precisely why Madara turned to the Infinite Tsukuyomi, throwing everyone into a genjutsu dream instead. Unfortunately, he never understood what the Infinite Tsukuyomi really was, which was why he ended up suffering such a miserable fate.

”Master, the Land of Snow remains very stable,” Koyuki answered as she rubbed her head affectionately against Amamiya Kenichi’s hand. ”Some ninja and a few families tried to rebel before, but I already suppressed them.”

”Has the ninja school system been implemented yet?” Amamiya Kenichi asked. This was what he actually cared about.

Although, after his experiment succeeded, he would eventually be able to mass-produce Uchiha within the Land of Snow by taking enough time, it was still better to have as many people with natural ninja talent as possible.

And ninja academies were necessary. Once they existed, anyone who became a ninja would have a proper place to study ninjutsu and steadily improve their strength.

”It has already been implemented, Master,” Koyuki said, sounding slightly embarrassed. ”But in the Land of Snow, there are still too few people who can become ninja.”

”I’ll solve that problem,” Amamiya Kenichi said calmly.

What he needed now was a large-scale experiment to verify whether his research had truly succeeded. He also needed to calculate the failure rate and a host of other variables, all of which required a sufficiently large population base.

And even though the Land of Snow was vast and sparsely populated, it was still an entire country. There would be no shortage of people for experimentation.

”Master really is amazing,” Koyuki said, her face flushed red.

Amamiya Kenichi’s mouth twitched.

Even though he knew that behavior was influenced by the mother parasite, it was still not easy to endure. He was, after all, still a normal man.

Fortunately, Uchiha Shiori woke up at that moment, and Amamiya Kenichi’s scientific curiosity instantly took over his mind.

”How do you feel?” he asked as he stepped forward.

At the same time, he felt a strange connection between himself and Uchiha Shiori. It was a very peculiar sensation. Through the parasite inside her, he could vaguely sense a stream of admiration flowing toward him.

”Lord Amamiya...” Uchiha Shiori looked at him blankly.

Then, almost immediately, the feeling inside her became stronger and stronger. The man before her was her master, her lord, the person whose every order she must obey without question.

Amamiya Kenichi quietly nodded as he watched her.

It seemed his assumption had been correct. The parasite’s ability was indeed extremely powerful. And from the current situation, it had not damaged Uchiha Shiori’s independent thinking ability.

Still, to confirm that point, he deliberately issued several needlessly complicated commands.

After recovering, Uchiha Shiori carried them out exactly as she always had. Even without any direct order, she trained on her own and read books just as before.

For an entire week, Uchiha Shiori remained exactly the same as always. There were no visible signs that she had been controlled.

The only issue was that with the Byakugan activated, one could clearly see the parasite resting in her brain and upper spinal cord.

The thing was basically motionless, only wriggling occasionally, like a dead object.

”It seems the Byakugan is a natural counter to parasites,” Amamiya Kenichi said as he licked his lips.

The Byakugan could directly see parasites. That meant if anyone with the Byakugan activated it, they could instantly identify a ninja under his control. That was very troublesome.

The good news, however, was that the Byakugan was effectively monopolized by Konoha. It had never truly spread outside, apart from the Byakugan Amamiya Kenichi currently possessed. No other village had such a convenient detection ability.

That meant his plan could still proceed.

He could advance it step by step, exactly as he intended.

First the Land of Snow, then the Land of Water and Kirigakure, then Iwagakure, Sunagakure, Kumogakure, and finally Konoha.

By then, even if Konoha discovered the truth, it would already be too late. Once half the people in the world were parasites, those who were not would become the true anomalies.

”Then it’s time to begin the experiments on the other two test subjects,” Amamiya Kenichi said.

He called Koyuki over, then instructed Uchiha Shiori to bring in the two subjects, and began the second round of parasitic experiments.

This time, he used one low-grade parasite and one mid-grade parasite. The most obvious difference between them was their size.

The high-grade parasite with the highest autonomy was the longest. The mid-grade one was shorter, and the low-grade one was shorter still. The distinction was surprisingly primitive.

[The second experiment has begun. After the mid-grade parasite was introduced, the subject’s reaction became extremely violent. Heart rate accelerated drastically, and the pain response was even more severe. It appears the parasite’s rank also affects the pain level during parasitism.]

Amamiya Kenichi looked at Yayoi Yoshimi, who had already lost bladder control, then glanced sideways at Koyuki.

”Koyuki, is the parasitic process always this painful?” he asked.

He was genuinely concerned. It could not be that every time someone was parasitized, they lost control of their bladder, right? That would be disgusting.

”No, Master. This method is simply faster,” Fuuka Koyuki answered honestly. ”If the eggs are injected directly into the bloodstream, the process causes no pain at all.”

Amamiya Kenichi’s mouth twitched.

Good grief. So these two had suffered for nothing?

”How long does it take if the eggs are injected?” Amamiya Kenichi asked.

He had already seen enough of parasites burrowing into flesh. Once was enough. But because this was a mid-grade parasite, he still had to watch carefully.

After observing for a bit longer, he understood the difference.

The high-grade parasite burrowed in very quickly. The mid-grade one was noticeably slower. That meant the low-grade parasite would be even slower, and therefore far more painful. There was nothing strange about that.

”In general, three days,” Fuuka Koyuki answered.

Amamiya Kenichi pondered for a moment.

Three days was not too long. In fact, it was within a range he found perfectly acceptable.

But this was an experiment. He was not going to sit around waiting three days just to watch it happen slowly. So these two unlucky test subjects would just have to suffer a little more.

Uchiha Shiori, standing beside him, remained expressionless as she watched the subjects struggle below.

But for some reason, a rare blush appeared on her face, as though she had suddenly recalled something.

”Lord Amamiya...” Uchiha Shiori said hesitantly. ”That day, when I...”

”No,” Amamiya Kenichi answered casually. ”You only twitched a few times.”

Then he glanced at her in surprise.

He had not expected Uchiha Shiori to care about something like that. But then again, she was still a girl.

Amamiya Kenichi smiled faintly but said nothing more. He simply waited for Yoshimi Yayoi to calm down, then swapped in the other test subject and began the low-grade parasite implantation.

This time, however, the scene was even more disgusting.

Amamiya Kenichi instinctively covered his nose. Then he had Koyuki call in a maid to clean the place, and only after using Wind Release to blow away the overwhelming stench could the room be considered bearable again.

[Mid-grade subject parasitism time: three minutes. Low-grade subject parasitism time: five minutes.]

Amamiya Kenichi silently wrote the figures down as he watched the two subjects finally quiet down.

It really was fast. There was no need to wait three days. But it was also extremely unsightly.

It seemed that if he wanted to keep the Land of Snow from ending up covered in golden filth, then using parasite eggs by injection would still be the better method.

So he assigned Koyuki the task of cultivating parasite eggs.

Then, after that, he turned his attention to the next stage.

It was time to begin the Sharingan experiment.
