Chapter 309. Let’s Move Somewhere Else (4)

Ten days after entering the Great Forest.

Patrick was spending his time more comfortably than expected.

During the day, he would travel lying on the broad back of the griffin, and at night, he would set up camp nearby and rest comfortably, attended to by the Retainers of the Four Calamities.

It was not supposed to be like this.

It should have been absolutely impossible.

To travel through the Great Forest, one could not avoid fierce battles with the monsters that reigned over each territory.

But in Patrick’s case, he was accompanied by the Retainers of the Four Calamities.

Thanks to them, he was able to avoid unnecessary battles.

The direct difference in hierarchy that could be felt because they were all retainers of Kalaron naturally made the monsters retreat.

If the difference in fighting spirit, or what the retainers of Kalaron called ‘force,’ was prominent, they would rarely dare to attack.

That was why Patrick was traveling through the Great Forest in a rather leisurely manner.

“Hey, this is why you have to have good people around you in life. Don’t you guys think so too?”

“……”

They didn’t seem to agree.

Anyway, Patrick traveled smoothly.

However, even if the journey was smooth, it took a long time.

He traveled by flying in the sky on an Elder Griffin, but more than a month passed after ten days.

But there was still no sign of reaching the destination.

That was how far he was traveling.

‘It would have taken a long time if I had walked.’

The location Patrick was in now was the deepest part of the Great Forest, a place that the past Roman Empire had failed to reach despite numerous expeditions.

And just as Patrick was starting to feel anxious about the alcohol in his artifact backpack running out…

“We have arrived.”

“Oh, is that it?”

“Yes. That is Pavera, the city where we, the retainers of Kalaron, gather and live.”

Finally, Patrick had arrived at his destination.

***

The Great Forest was a boundary.

The retainers of Yupinel lived west of the Great Forest, and beyond that, in the forest, lived the retainers of Kalaron.

In truth, most of Kalaron’s retainers were monsters and demonic beasts, so they did not build anything that could be called a civilization.

But among them were also intelligent races with intellect and culture, like vampires and dark elves.

Even orcs, though rough, had their own culture.

A city built by such intelligent races.

That was this Pavera.

“Hooo… I didn’t know there was such a huge city inside the Great Forest.”

The city, built into a huge volcano, had a rather unique structure at a glance.

It was a city built in a structure that gradually rose from the bottom of the mountain, with the city itself formed in a huge staircase-like layered form.

“I wonder how they thought of building something like this in a volcanic region.”

If the volcano erupted, this city would be swept away directly. But…

“This area is the domain ruled by the Reigning Terror. The volcano will never erupt.”

Edward, the vampire, said proudly.

‘Reigning Terror is probably the Azure Dragon, right? It’s amazing that he’s forcefully suppressing a volcanic eruption.’

It was a fresh reminder, but the term Four Calamities really hit home.

Beings that you couldn’t stop even if you knew, and couldn’t avoid.

That was why they were called calamities.

“Welcome.”

As they entered the city riding the Elder Griffin, countless people knelt and bowed respectfully.

Vampires, orcs, beastmen, dark elves, and even demonic beasts with inhuman forms all bowed their heads at the same time, creating quite a spectacle.

And he realized one surprising fact.

‘So these guys were big shots.’

He hadn’t had a sense of their position just by hearing they were Retainers of the Four Calamities.

But seeing the various races of this huge city all bowing their heads at the same time, he could tell that the four who had brought him here were individuals of considerable authority.

“Sir Edward. Who is the human behind you?”

To the question asked by one of the vampires, Edward replied.

“He is a guest of the Kings. Make sure there is no disrespect in how you treat him.”

If you don’t want to get beaten.

He didn’t bother to add that part.

“Understood.”

Fortunately, the retainers of Kalaron understood much better than he had expected.

This was a place thoroughly governed by the logic of the survival of the fittest, so if a superior said something was black, then even if it was white, it was naturally black here.

And Edward said to Patrick.

“Please wait here for a few days. I will inform our King that you have arrived.”

“Sure. Let’s do that.”

And Luna, the dark elf, said to Patrick.

“The children of our clan will attend to you. Please let us know if you need anything.”

At that, dark elf women in maid outfits approached Patrick and bowed their heads politely.

Slightly different from humans, but with very beautiful features, the dark elf maids bowed their heads politely to Patrick.

A moment later.

“How is the water temperature?”

“Aaaah. It’s perfect.”

Patrick was being treated like a complete VIP.

He occupied a huge bath that could fit more than ten people all by himself, and as he soaked, beautiful dark elf maids brought him alcohol and appetizers.

“Kugh… The alcohol here is really strong. What is it made of?”

The deep black alcohol gave the feeling of a fireball going down his throat with a single sip.

At that, the maid said…

“It is alcohol made from a Violet Snake that is over 500 years old.”

“Snake wine. No wonder it was so strong.”

“……”

It wasn’t that simple.

The Violet Snake was a snake that possessed one of the deadliest venoms in the Great Forest.

The alcohol made from this snake was, of course, also poisonous.

A single glass could make a huge demonic beast collapse, tremble, and die…

“Kugh… This is good. Give me another glass.”

What is this human?

It was already his second bottle.

‘He’s definitely not an ordinary human.’

‘The King himself summoned him…’

Just this alone showed how strong this human was.

And the eyes of the dark elf women who realized this fact held a subtle glint.

A moment later.

After finishing his bath and feeling refreshed, Patrick was guided to his bedroom.

And in that bedroom, two dark elf maids visited again.

“You too?”

“Of course.”

However, the difference was that the clothes they were wearing were not ordinary maid uniforms.

It was obvious what their purpose was in visiting this room again, wearing very skimpy negligees and carrying a tray with wine and cheese appetizers.

“He’s a human who can drink such strong alcohol without batting an eye. He must be incredibly strong.”

“And he’s a guest of the King, so if I receive his seed and have a child, how strong of a child will be born?”

The retainers of Kalaron were beings who lived under the thorough logic of the survival of the fittest.

The strong were right, the strong were great, and the strong were attractive.

Differences in race were a trivial matter.

As soon as these women realized that Patrick was unusually strong, they had come to his bedroom wearing such skimpy underwear to have his child.

And even though they had run into each other, they had no intention of backing down. On the contrary…

“Fifty-fifty?”

“Deal.”

Scary. The retainers of Kalaron.

Having reached an agreement, they entered the room without hesitation.

And they confirmed Patrick, who was sleeping under the covers in bed.

The women, who licked their red lips with their tongues and walked towards the bed with a seductive posture, were…

“Guest…, are you asleep already?”

“We will relieve the fatigue of your journey.”

They surrounded him from the left and right, slowly approaching the bed so that he could absolutely not escape.

And the moment they pulled back the covers…

“Huh?!”

“Ah?!”

Curses came out automatically. Underneath was a dummy made of rolled-up blankets and pillows in the shape of a person.

He had even carefully drawn a mocking expression on the face. And…

「Goodbye, everyone. I am casting off my shackles and restraints to go play outside.」

That was the note written there.

“Wow… I’ve really seen all sorts of things in my life.”

Patrick was casually strolling through the night streets of Pavera.

He never would have thought that there would be a huge city where these races lived together inside the Great Forest.

At a street stall, a dark elf sold alcohol and food, a beastman tilted his cup, and an orc, getting excited, started arm wrestling.

Seeing this lively scene, he realized something anew.

‘People (?) live the same way everywhere.’

He had been curious about how the retainers of Kalaron lived, but now that he saw it, it wasn’t much different.

They were a bit rough, but seeing them build their own order and live in their own territory…

‘I guess there’s no need to fight unnecessarily.’

He felt a little relieved.

It was a relief for Patrick, who wanted to avoid making more enemies here.

***

A few days later.

As Patrick was living very comfortably in Pavera, being treated as a VIP, Edward came to him and said.

“The Kings have gathered.”

“Oh? Really?”

“Would you like to meet them right away?”

“I should. What’s the point of dragging it out?”

He had rested well and comfortably with the utmost hospitality.

It was just that the women who tried to sneak into his bedroom at night were a bit annoying, but other than that, everything was good.

Patrick slowly got up from his seat.

“Then shall we go?”

It was time to get down to business.

The highest point in Pavera.

There stood a huge, majestically built gate.

If you opened that gate and went inside, you could go down through artificially carved stairs.

“It’s getting hotter and hotter.”

To Patrick’s words, Edward, who was guiding him from the front, said.

“We are entering the source of this volcano. It is only natural that it gets hotter.”

As he said, the further they went down, the hotter the heat that was warming the air became.

After passing through the scorching heat that would make it difficult for an ordinary person to even breathe, the place they arrived at was…

“You may enter through here.”

It was in front of a large door with splendid carvings in relief.

Carved on the door were the figures of the Azure Dragon, Vermilion Bird, White Tiger, and Black Tortoise, carved in the four cardinal directions.

“Should I go in alone?”

“Those were the orders.”

“I see.”

Patrick pushed open the door, which was as hot as a heated griddle.

And the moment he took a step inside…

Whoooosh!

Along with the heat of the hot magma, he could feel an immense presence pressing down on him.

It was the aura emanating from the four huge beasts in front of Patrick.

It wasn’t particularly threatening, but it was a terrifying aura that was naturally emitted just by their existence.

Patrick, who looked at them one by one, said.

“Should I say it’s an honor to meet you?”

At the sight of Patrick, who spoke so calmly even in front of them, the Four Calamities said.

-Welcome, O prophesied human.

The one who spoke on their behalf was a blue dragon whose body was more than half submerged in lava.

Patrick stared at the dragon and thought.

‘It’s the Azure Dragon. I’ve really seen all sorts of things in my life.’

To the being called the Reigning Terror in this world, Patrick said.

“Should I call you the Reigning Terror? Or should I call you the Azure Dragon?”

At that, the opponent flinched and said with a gloomy expression.

-My name has been stolen. Call me the Reigning Terror.

“Stealing all sorts of things, for god’s sake.”

Patrick grumbled.

And he also said to the others next to him.

“Then, I should call that red bird over there the Falling Despair, and I’ve met the other two before.”

Then the Black Tortoise next to the White Tiger said.

-When did you ever see me?

“I just saw you, that’s all.”

As Patrick spoke sarcastically, the Vermilion Bird emitted a faint aura and said.

-How rude. Mind your manners, human.

“For what?”

What kind of manners should he mind with those he was about to have a pleasant sword fight with?

He had never heard of such manners in his life.

Right, Master?

[I. Have told you countless times until my mouth was dry and sore to be polite even to your enemies…]

I don’t remember.

You fire-attribute disciple, you…

“Well, anyway… let me ask one thing first.”

-Speak.

As the Azure Dragon answered on their behalf, Patrick said.

“What exactly is this prophesied human you guys are talking about? And why did you become Apostles of Kalaron and are in this world?”

-That is…

“And what the hell is an Outer God? Why is a phrase like the unlucky Heavenly Demon’s Advent, All Demons Bow in Submission left on that bastard’s traces?”

-…….

“There’s more than one or two suspicious things. So hurry up and tell me. Everything!”

At Patrick’s interrogation, the Azure Dragon moved its huge body, sloshing in the magma, and said with difficulty.

-I cannot say.

“You’re dead.”

He had expected that answer, but it still pissed him off when it came.

Patrick reached into his backpack and pulled out two swords.

A white, pure white sword.

It was the beloved sword he had named White Dragon.

Then the Azure Dragon said.

-Do not be hasty. It is only that I cannot tell you now.

“Then how can you tell me?”

-If you overcome our trials and prove that you are the prophesied human… if you do that…

The Azure Dragon continued with difficulty.

-We too will bet on you.

“……”

Patrick grabbed the back of his neck with a frustrated expression and tilted his head back.

Seriously, what was this prophesied human that they were being so cautious about?

At the Azure Dragon’s words, which felt not just earnest but desperate, Patrick let out a sigh and said.

“Alright. Then, let’s do this trial or whatever it is. How should we do it?”

To Patrick’s words, the Azure Dragon said.

-The trial is simple. You just have to prove your strength.

“The point is you want to have a match, right?”

-That is correct.

It was simple, which was good.

Patrick nodded without hesitation and said.

“Alright. Let’s move somewhere else.”

If Patrick fought the Four Calamities here, the volcano would erupt and the city of Pavera would disappear without a trace.

The Azure Dragon slowly raised its body, passed over the lava, and flew towards the volcano’s crater.

-Follow me.

And following him, the other Four Calamities also moved, and Patrick let out a sigh and then shot up, kicking off the wall with his movement technique.
