My Apocalypse System Arrives 10 Years Early

Chapter 584: Chapter 362: A Higher Generation of Civilization

In terms of Earth’s technology alone, if learning to use fire in ancient times marked the first generation of civilization, and later learning to use electricity and magnetism was the second, then now that Earth Humans had mastered controllable nuclear fusion—with an abundant supply of ideal fuel like helium-3—they could be considered the third generation.

Each generation represented a qualitative leap and was of epoch-making significance.

To be precise, it was Country C’s Underground Cities that possessed Nuclear Fusion Reactors. City No. 03, in particular, had now built a total of eight, meaning its power supply was extremely abundant.

It was precisely because of the helium-3 controllable nuclear fusion technology that Jiang Cai’Er’s Artificial Little Sun and Aerospace Carrier projects were initiated and had been developing steadily.

But even within Country C, due to the rushed timeframe or certain objective limitations before the Apocalypse, not every Underground City was equipped with a helium-3 Nuclear Fusion Reactor.

Therefore, since Country C had not even achieved full proliferation internally, it was even less likely that they would provide it for foreign Underground Cities to use.

This was especially true for Tianzhu. Even if the technology were shared with them, they wouldn’t have the expertise to handle it in the short term, and it would likely lead to accidents. It was like the explosions caused by accumulated feces. One such incident had occurred back in the era of peace, but it only involved 200 tons. Even so, the force of 200 tons was immense.

It happened on a drillship, where 200 tons of excrement had been stored and left uncleaned for a long time. It then suddenly exploded. The massive drillship was torn to pieces, and not only did 16 workers die, but the nearby Vikrant aircraft carrier, which was under construction, was also sprayed with filth. Although the carrier suffered no structural damage—after all, it was only 200 tons of feces at a certain distance, how could it possibly blow up an aircraft carrier? But the stench was overwhelming, and the cleanup alone was a massive undertaking. The ”Sea of Feces,” as it was called, briefly became a focus of global media attention at the time.

Moreover, City No. 03 was not just about advanced technology. It had also integrated the Extraordinary System. Whether it was the quantity or quality of its Extraordinary Beings, or the degree to which it had achieved Fusion between technology and the Extraordinary, it far surpassed other nations. And as time went on, this gap would only widen.

That was why Kanna felt like she had entered paradise upon arriving in City No. 03, the most advanced city on Earth, from the slums of Tianzhu. This was a generational gap in civilization!

When work was assigned the next day, some people chose to be laborers on the underground farms (planting, harvesting, irrigating, etc.) or fertilizer processors (handling organic waste, composting). Some chose the clothing factories, while others chose the livestock farms to raise animals and provide meat and egg resources for the city’s residents... However, the mother holding the baby, along with Tanya and a few other girls, chose to become janitors in the restrooms.

For them, working in such a restroom was practically a luxury.

The mother holding her child said, ”I’d be willing to live in a restroom like this for the rest of my life.” It was clear that the dry latrines of her past in Tianzhu had left her with lifelong psychological trauma.

Even after this mother’s life stabilized, she would still have nightmares from time to time, and the content of those nightmares was always about using the toilets in the slums of Tianzhu. If not for her psychological trauma, how could this be?

Although City No. 03 was a great city, first-class in both advanced technology and the Extraordinary, representing the pinnacle for Earth Humans, there were still many areas that required manual labor. First, using human labor was cheaper and more energy-efficient. Second, people needed to work; it wasn’t feasible for machines to do everything while people sat idle. Third, some jobs genuinely required a human touch.

As for the restroom janitor position that Tanya and the others chose, the reason was that people worried about ”privacy leaks” if machines were used for cleaning. Cleaning robots often needed ”eyes” (cameras or sensors) to do the job properly.

You’re in the middle of using the toilet, and a robot suddenly rolls in. Wouldn’t that freak you out?

Surveillance cameras couldn’t be installed in restrooms, which were also outside the patrol routes of robots and robot dogs, so someone needed to be on duty. They could provide timely assistance, call for help, or alert security in case of an emergency.

Seeing that her people were all living and working in peace and contentment, Kanna felt relieved. With no worries holding her back, she was willing to dedicate herself to Li Xiang. As a Tier Five Transcendent, she had already agreed to serve as an Earth Vein Passage Envoy. Now, she followed Li Xiang to her new workplace, a five-story office building next to a large warehouse.

”You can wait here for two days and familiarize yourself with the environment. Once the other Earth Vein Passage Envoys have arrived, we will assign teams and arrange the work,” Li Xiang said, calling over a staff member and asking him to show Kanna around.

This staff member was also an Earth Element Transcendent from City No. 03. He had no need to participate in the ”trial” that the others went through, so he had reported for duty early and was responsible for welcoming newcomers.

The man was also Tier Five, no weaker than Kanna.

He gave Kanna a tour, introducing her to the existing colleagues and familiarizing her with the environment, such as the locations of various offices, the finance room, the archives, the conference room, the break room, the cafeteria, and the restrooms. He also informed her that there was a Spiritual Energy Matrix nearby, which she could enter for Cultivation in her free time, allowing her to train faster than elsewhere.

”Oh? Where is it? There’s a wonderful place like that?” Kanna was very interested. The Transcendent immediately pointed her in the right direction, and Kanna headed over impatiently.

In fact, this ”Spiritual Energy Matrix” was the same Extraordinary Particle Enrichment Chamber that Li Xiang had previously shared with the world. Many Underground Cities had them, including those in Tianzhu. But as a member of the Lower Caste, Kanna had absolutely no qualifications to even get near one. She had never seen one—no, she had never even *heard* of one, let alone used it.
