Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 351: Chapter 202: Resentment Within the Calamity Fog

Wu Chang ventured into the Calamity Fog, as if entering an entirely unfamiliar space.

The surroundings became very open, the area shrouded in white fog, far exceeding the size of the banquet hall.

The atmosphere within the white fog differed from that of the Underground Shelter, the specific difference was hard to describe, if one had to say, it was that the world within the fog had a sense of impending disaster, a world on the brink of collapse.

Perhaps it is for this reason that it is called the Calamity Fog.

He Yun stood at the center of the Calamity Fog, noticing Wu Chang had followed her inside, the tension on her face visibly eased.

Wu Chang asked, ”Miss He Yun, surely you can now tell me what these Calamity Fogs are exactly. They don’t seem to be merely toxic gases.”

He Yun looked around cautiously, responding, ”I don’t exactly know what they are either, I only know that once entangled by the Calamity Fog, it pulls you into a unique space where the things you fear most manifest in reality.”

”Only by defeating those monsters or escaping the fog’s range can you get rid of the Calamity Fog.”

As if to confirm He Yun’s words, a large number of heavy footsteps could be heard from within the fog, following which, a barrage of bullets tore through the fog, sweeping towards their location.

He Yun deployed the Energy Shield on her mecha, guarding Wu Chang behind her, then swiftly moved together with Wu Chang, avoiding the bullet assault.

By the light dispersing the fog, Wu Chang saw the source of the gunfire; it was a zombie clad in full battle mecha.

Its face was a bloody mess, the body withered, yet its movements and reactions were extremely agile, the muzzle always tracking Wu Chang and He Yun.

Wu Chang used spatial movement to shuttle behind the zombie, drawing the Giant Sword transformed from the Golden Throne, and pierced through the mecha with a single strike.

”A zombie with a mecha, is this the thing you fear the most?”

Wu Chang stood on the mecha, feeling that this entity was nothing extraordinary, certainly not to a degree to frighten He Yun so much.

To his surprise, upon seeing him eliminate the mecha zombie, He Yun became anxious, ”Damn it, you shouldn’t have taken it out so quickly!”

Just as He Yun finished speaking, three more mecha zombies emerged from the fog, simultaneously pulling triggers towards Wu Chang.

”You should have mentioned this earlier!” Wu Chang quickly employed the Lightning Shadow Body Technique, rushing towards He Yun.

He Yun raised the Energy Shield, charging towards Wu Chang, successfully bringing him under protection, then complained, ”Who told you to act so quickly! Their source is the Calamity Fog, as long as the fog persists, they will only multiply.”

”Why are you afraid of these things?”

Due to complex reasons, Wu Chang couldn’t discern if He Yun feared the zombies or the weaponry barrage.

He Yun said, ”How should I know, maybe I fear the indestructible and fearless mechas.”

”What should we do now?” Wu Chang asked.

He Yun said, ”Every space formed by the Calamity Fog has a core node, destroy it, and you can dissipate these Calamity Fogs. We’ll split up and act quickly to find it!”

Wu Chang: ”What does it generally look like?”

He Yun replied, ”You don’t have to worry about it, just destroy anything suspicious you see! Except these zombies! If you encounter them, try to incapacitate them rather than kill them, this will slow down their reinforcement rate.”

”I’ll go and lure them away, you take the chance to act!”

After He Yun finished speaking, she used her fingers to count down three-two-one.

As her palm clenched into a fist, she pushed the Energy Shield and charged towards the mecha zombies, sending them flying backwards.

Seizing the gap while the mecha zombies got up, she moved away in a direction away from Wu Chang.

Since mecha zombies were what He Yun feared, this space formed by the Calamity Fog was also due to He Yun, the three mecha zombies hesitated briefly, then abandoned Wu Chang, collectively pursuing He Yun.

Wu Chang took this opportunity to unleash inspiration, perceiving the fog node He Yun mentioned.

He followed his inspiration forward, within a few minutes, he encountered another mecha zombie.

This time he became wiser, first using Social Phobia and Elite Stealth to approach, then suddenly exploded, directly tearing off the two mechanical arms of the mecha.

To be safe, he bent the mecha’s two legs, creating a zombie mecha version of a walking stick.

After ensuring the mecha zombie lost its ability to resist, he began carefully inspecting the mecha zombie.

He hadn’t known He Yun long but in their brief interaction, he trusted that He Yun wouldn’t be so wary of the Calamity Fog just because of several mecha zombies.

As he separated the zombie and the mecha, he indeed discovered something.

The zombie in the mecha was wearing the uniform of Shelter 88.

Perhaps this uniform, and what it represents, was the real reason He Yun feared them.

Wu Chang left the zombie behind, continuing along with inspiration, and after a few more minutes, he arrived at a particularly dense fog area.

At the center of the area stood a vague stone monument.

Judging by the appearance, it seemed to be the node He Yun mentioned.

The surface of the stone monument was covered in a fog that couldn’t be dissipated, preventing Wu Chang from seeing what was written on the monument, but one other thing on the monument he could see clearly, a large red grievance.

This grievance wasn’t attached to He Yun, but appeared in the space affected by the Calamity Fog after impacting He Yun, a situation Wu Chang had never seen before.
