Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 346: Chapter 200: Management Bureau Director

Wu Chang asked unwillingly, ”Does this have anything to do with what happened to you in the Divine Temple?”

He Yun said, ”It definitely has something to do with it, but I’m not clear on the specifics, which is why I need to go back and lift this curse.”

He Yun’s answer was too reasonable, leaving Wu Chang with no grounds for questioning.

Thinking about it carefully, He Yun indeed couldn’t study her own death. Her death would reverse time throughout the entire Underground Shelter, and neither people nor instruments would escape it.

This meant she couldn’t use instruments for assistance, nor could she find any helpers.

She didn’t have the Eye of Breaking Method either, so even dying multiple times would not help her discover anything from her physical sensations.

But Wu Chang was certain that He Yun was definitely hiding something, he just didn’t have any evidence for now.

Seeing Wu Chang stop his questioning, it became He Yun’s turn.

He Yun turned to look at Wu Chang, the two of them locked eyes without any trace of avoidance.

”I, on the other hand, would like to ask you. I originally thought this time reversal would be like before, taking me back to the hospital bed, but when I opened my eyes, I found myself back on the night I met you.”

”Do you have anything to say about that?”

Wu Chang smiled, ”There’s nothing much to say, the reversal has already said it all for me. This means that whether it’s the curse on you or the time reversal encompassing the entire Underground Shelter, it will be up to me to break it.”

He spoke as if it were only natural, as if everything should be that way.

So certain was he that even He Yun began to believe it.

”I hope you can do it.”

Just after they finished their conversation, they heard the footsteps of two Assassins outside.

This time, it was Wu Chang’s turn to strike first.

He activated Elite Stealth, circling behind the two, and subdued them before they could aim.

Next came the interrogation of the two.

Wu Chang tied the two to chairs and asked, ”Go on, why did you come to assassinate He Yun.”

Both of them were tough, and they sneered at Wu Chang’s question with disdain.

”You outsider, are you questioning our loyalty to the Paradise Church? None of us from Underground Shelter 88 are afraid of death! Whatever you’ve got, go ahead and use it on me. Even if I’m tortured to death, I won’t give up Bishop Weilin!”

Wu Chang and He Yun stood there, looking at each other, feeling a sense of frustration.

The other Assassin spat a thick glob of saliva, ”What! Afraid? Let us go if you are. Other cult members have already set their sights on you and will soon avenge us!”

Wu Chang: ”Did you record that?”

He Yun nodded: ”Recorded everything.”

After confirming the video was clear and the audio smooth, Wu Chang gagged the two Assassins with a rag and left the storage room with He Yun.

It was unclear whether these two were too clever or just insane.

But regardless, since they confessed, there was no need to kill the two.

These two were just small fry relying on Mecha for combat. Killing them wouldn’t provide much Power, and frequently turning locals into infants might prematurely expose his secrets.

Having learned from last time, He Yun left home with her greatest creation, the most powerful Mecha in the entire Underground Shelter.

Wearing the Mecha, He Yun’s Power, Agility, and Energy all exceeded 200 points, and her Endurance was astounding. As long as her Energy wasn’t exhausted and the Mecha wasn’t damaged, she could keep fighting.

The Underground Shelter was a halfway failed mid-layer dungeon. The inhabitants there were in a special Status, not creating nor being affected by Realm of Reason Plane barriers.

Wearing her greatest creation, He Yun might stand a chance against Helmet Man this time.

Once ready, they left home that night. For covert actions, He Yun took two motorcycles from the garage, and she and Wu Chang rode into the city.

Their destination was the 88 Hotel in the city center.

This hotel was built in the early days of the crisis when the Underground Shelters hadn’t severed all ties. It was meant for passing trade convoys.

As interest in the underground grew and aversion to the surface increased, the Underground Shelters stopped trading over the surface, and the hotel was abandoned.

It wasn’t until Underground Shelter 88 became the Pillar of the Present World that outsiders started coming back, and the hotel reopened.

They didn’t sneak into the hotel; instead, they moved in openly.

The reason was simple: not even Helmet Man or the Bliss Sect would dare to cause a disturbance in the city center.

The logic behind the Underground Shelter’s design differed from ordinary cities. The city center had the highest level of security, so all important buildings were clustered there.

Causing trouble here posed a threat to the entire Underground Shelter, putting them at odds with all locals. Even the Bliss Sect, with its high-esteem reputation, wouldn’t dare do something like that.

Despite the low likelihood of an attack, for safety’s sake, they rented only one room.

Although it was Wu Chang’s suggestion, heaven knows he truly meant it for safety.

Reality soon proved the point.

He Yun had said they couldn’t engage in combat in the way locals did, deploying weapon-equipped combat Mecha.

If confronted by a Player, methods weren’t limited to destructive attacks, and although He Yun was strong, it was evident she had a significant vulnerability within.

As expected, at 2:30 AM, when people were most drowsy and their guard was lowest, a wisp of black smoke seeped through the gap beneath the door into the room.

The black smoke entered the room, transforming into a faint black silhouette, like a specter floating over to He Yun’s bed, attempting to turn into mist once again and enter He Yun’s nose and mouth.

”I advise you not to harm her.” Wu Chang’s voice appeared behind the black smoke.

The black smoke, hearing this, dared not stop and immediately accelerated its body into intangibility, moving to engulf He Yun.

Wu Chang sighed, holding the Soul Cleansing Banner in his hand.

”Still daring to pull this ghostly trick in front of me, even dispersing shape on your own, aren’t you tired of living?”

With that, he swung the Soul Cleansing Banner, its surface carrying sounds of wind and thunder, and swept it through the black mist.

The Soul Cleansing Banner naturally countered malevolent spirits, and at that moment, its surface was also infused with Celestial Thunder, specifically for exorcising demons and monsters, with Break Evil effects.

The triple-force union made the banner swipe completely disperse the black smoke.

At the same time, in a room at the other end of the hallway, the Player who was sitting cross-legged in an Array using the Yin Spirit Emergence technique let out an agonizing scream, followed by blood erupting like a fountain from his seven orifices.

By the time his companions approached, he was already dead.

A Desolate Realm max-level Player was taken out in one strike!

After dispersing the black mist with a swipe of the banner, Wu Chang noticed a hint of vitality within the shattering smoke, realizing the opponent’s skills and attributes weren’t too impressive. He initially intended to trap the opponent’s black mist with Celestial Thunder and have some fun interrogating for information, but he didn’t expect to be too heavy-handed and directly ended them.

After brief puzzlement, he found the culprit: his profession-specific skill, Close Combat Mage.

The effect of Close Combat Mage amplified his Strength Attribute, boosting Energy-type Damage Skills equivalently to his Energy Attribute.

It was this conversion that led him to overdo it and one-shot the opponent.

With a sigh, he opened his mouth to absorb the floating vitality.

The vitality brought only 40 points of Strength Attribute. Deducted by the Plane barrier, it barely totaled 28 points.

The assailant was a Desolate Realm Player and not even a ranked one. When did such individuals gain access to the Pillar of the Present World?

The opponent certainly wasn’t acting alone. Wu Chang brought along the awakened He Yun, opened the door, and rushed to the room where the scream occurred.

Their response was quick enough, yet when they arrived, the room door was ajar, and four Players were already inside, holding down another Player originally in the room.

Wu Chang looked at the leader among the four Players, sensing a familiar aura from him.

”Who are you people?”

The leader said, ”No need to be nervous, we’re from the Management Bureau, responsible for this Special Space.”
