Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 335: Chapter 197: Calamity Fog_2

But for those people, Wu Chang had another way of communicating. Look, doesn’t he converse fluently with the bartender at the pub?

The two left home and headed for the bus stop where they got off last night.

Passing by last night’s billboard, he noticed that the charred shelter version of Pete had disappeared, probably resurrected in place like the assassins.

Speaking of resurrection, Wu Chang couldn’t help but ponder the mechanism of local people’s resurrection.

What is their resurrection method? Is it regeneration or reassembly in place? He asked He Yun directly.

He Yun said, ”I once tried to study the reason for people’s resurrection, but after a few attempts, I found it’s not something that can be explained scientifically. But if forced to say, it’s like a regression, a backtracking of the physical body to a certain time point.”

Wu Chang pressed, ”Then if I take a target, like those two assassins last night, throw them into a barrel, fill it with cement, and sink it, what would happen? Would they continuously resurrect and die?”

He Yun looked at Wu Chang with a strange expression and asked, ”What do you do for a living outside, a gangster or a professional killer?”

Wu Chang shrugged and said, ”I have quite a few professions. A week ago, I was a tycoon.”

”I’ve never seen a tycoon who has to credit hot milk.” He Yun snorted, then explained Wu Chang’s query.

”The resurrection mechanism in the underground shelter is quite special. It considers the possibility of being continuously killed after resurrection, so if locals die three consecutive times in a short time, after the third death, they resurrect at the collective resurrection point rather than in place.”

Wu Chang didn’t expect this resurrection mechanism to be so humane. ”Where is this collective resurrection point you mentioned?”

He Yun: ”Because resurrection has divinity and the Bliss Sect is the only religion in the underground shelter, the collective resurrection point was transformed into the Bliss Sect’s Great Cathedral.”

Oh wow, with that connection, the Bliss Sect’s prestige in the underground shelter must be quite high.

Wu Chang frowned and asked, ”If I rashly have a conflict with the Paradise Church, will I be at war with the entire underground shelter?”

He Yun asked puzzled, ”Why do you want to have a conflict with the Bliss Sect.”

Wu Chang: ”Because of a friend of mine.”

He Yun: ”Ah?”

Wu Chang knows nothing about the underground shelter, clearly hasn’t entered the shelter before, so can’t possibly have friends here, even if there are friends, those having conflict with the underground shelter and Bliss Sect, can be counted on one hand.

Also, when Wu Chang stayed with her earlier, he claimed they were friends.

This guy, wouldn’t because she was assassinated yesterday, go to stir trouble with the Bliss Sect, right?

He Yun immediately said, ”I’ll handle my own matters, no need for you to do anything.”

Wu Chang: ?

What the heck, this doesn’t connect at all?

Soon he realized He Yun must have misunderstood, he was thinking about the kidnapped Fang Hui, and He Yun seemed to misunderstand themself due to the morning joke.

If explained clearly now, He Yun would definitely be embarrassed.

So, the considerate Wu Chang decided to let the mistake slide, saying, ”Don’t go by your feelings, let’s go by mine. Those people from the Bliss Sect could go out and ask around about my reputation, any friend acknowledged by me is not to be bullied.”

He Yun interspersed softly, ”Isn’t your nickname Peace?”

”Yes, and do you know how Peace is achieved? Without slaying all enemies, is Peace going to grow legs and walk over by itself?” Wu Chang replied matter-of-factly.

He Yun sighed, feeling that in some ways, Wu Chang, this outsider, was more extreme than locals.

She said, ”I suggest you don’t act rashly, just like you said, since the outside archbishop settled in some time ago, people’s faith in the Bliss Sect has greatly increased. If you deal with the Bliss Sect, it would indeed evoke public fury.”

Wu Chang rubbed his chin, pondering, ”When those two guys resurrected during the day, not only did their bodies become weak, but they also completely forgot having come to assassinate you. You say resurrection backtracks memories, how far back do you estimate?”

He Yun said, ”Hard to say, generally it backtracks to before triggering death or significant changes, perhaps a few months, maybe eight or nine years.”

Wu Chang: ”Then if I kill all supporters of the Bliss Sect, and their memories all backtrack to before the outside archbishop arrived, wouldn’t that weaken the Bliss Sect’s influence?”

He Yun: ”I was being reserved earlier, you outside must be either a terrorist or dictator. But I urge you not even to think about it, even if it’s for me, I’ll stop you.”

Wu Chang shrugged, ”Alright, you call the shots.”

The two took the bus, arriving at the power station between the suburbs and the city.

Although locals in the underground shelter won’t die, they still need to work to maintain themselves and service the underground shelter.

He Yun’s everyday job is to inspect and repair the power station.

The power station is a massive building; just looking from the outside, at least a hundred employees are needed to operate it, but actually, it’s extraordinarily quiet inside, so quiet you can’t hear anything from outside.

Seeing He Yun arrived, the plant’s gate opened, and a man in his fifties, whose hair was half white, walked out of the transmission room, greeting He Yun.

”I heard last night you made a big splash at the pub, taking out a misbehaving outsider with a single punch.”

He Yun had no intention to elaborate, ”It’s not really a big splash, just the opponent being too weak.”
