Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 311: Chapter 191: Premeditated Attack

The violent tremors lasted for nearly half an hour, not only shaking the ground of the public area and the stalls set up by players but also causing the system-generated buildings within the Crimson Courtyard to sway.

The clock tower in the center of the public area rang out during the shaking, as if foreseeing the impending disaster and issuing a warning to people.

Wu Chang looked up at the countdown on the top of the clock tower, 57.

days remained until the start of the World Dungeon, when the pattern of the Abyssal Game would undergo major changes.

With the World Dungeon approaching, all the specters couldn’t hold back and were about to emerge for a night parade of ghosts.

He arrived at the bar in the public area, finding it in disarray. The players who had drunk too much never imagined they would encounter a natural disaster in the Crimson Courtyard and mostly couldn’t react in time.

While players in the bar cleaned up tables and chairs, they shared information about the incident. Just as Wu Chang was about to lend a hand, he heard a player say:

”Do you know, just before the earthquake, there was a huge explosion in the Red Wave Space, and I heard a similar explosion occurred at the Free Coast near the White Tower. No idea if it’s related to the earthquake.”

Another player chimed in:

”I’ve been in the Crimson Courtyard for seven years and have never seen anything like that before; you’re saying it’s unrelated? Yeah, right!”

Someone else said: ”I wonder if the Four Major Organizations will issue a notice soon, to tell us what happened.”

Someone scoffed: ”Why daydream? When have those bigshots in the Four Major Organizations ever needed to report to a small fry like you?”

Another person stirred up the crowd: ”Exactly, in recent years, those big organizations have become more arrogant; they’re all focused on racial evolution and divine cultivation, where do they have time to care about ordinary players like us?”

This statement changed the rhythm in the bar, with everyone starting to speak in a sarcastic tone.

Wu Chang furrowed his brow; he didn’t realize before that ordinary players held such heavy resentment towards the big organizations, especially the Four Major Organizations.

But he didn’t pay much attention to the reputation of the Four Major Organizations; his focus was entirely on what the first player had said.

The Red Wave Space had experienced an explosion.

He set aside drinking, exiting the bar, and heading to the teleportation point in the public area, choosing to go directly to the Red Wave Space.

”Teleportation failed, your chosen destination has cut off external entry channels, please try again later.”

The influence spaces of the Four Major Organizations are open to friendly players; players with access can teleport directly from the public area.

Now that the Red Wave Space had severed ties with the public area, could something serious have happened?

He quickly left the Crimson Courtyard, returned to his residence, greeted Erin, and drove straight to the Wanghai Branch.

The direct teleportation into the Red Wave Space was blocked, but the entrance from reality wasn’t closed; he entered the elevator and pressed the button for the third underground layer, waiting for the elevator to open, he was already within the Red Wave Space.

Upon entering the Red Wave Space, thick smoke mixed with fire sparks rushed towards him, Wu Chang looked around with a frown, seeing the fire spreading in the space, while members of the Management Bureau were busy extinguishing fires everywhere.

Various buildings in the Red Wave Space, accounting for about a fifth, were engulfed by fire; the futuristic neon lights and projections mostly damaged, exposing black screens under the bright images, and wires sparking through holes in the screens.

The enormous central research institute had half of its main building blown down, and heavy smoke rolled through the Red Wave Trading District’s building complex.

These damages were secondary, the truly shocking sight was the monument-like Hongmeng Temple resembling both a shrine and a temple; its walls now had a large hole from an explosion, and the building visibly tilted.

The entire Red Wave Space seemed to have been through a war.

The problem was, the Red Wave Space, though an independent territory, is part of the Crimson Courtyard, a safe zone, which shouldn’t cause damage to buildings or players.

Moreover, the Management Bureau is one of the Four Major Organizations; who has the capability to take down the Red Wave Space?

Could it be that a group of Evil God worshipers attacked?

Wu Chang wanted to approach the Hongmeng Temple but found a long distance away had been cordoned off.

He randomly grabbed a few firefighters to ask what happened, only to find out that they had just arrived and hadn’t had time to understand, before being dispatched to put out fires.

While they spoke, the members of the Management Bureau wanted to pull Wu Chang along with them, but Wu Chang quickly used his Social Phobia and Elite Stealth to slip away.

He didn’t have time to act as a firefighter.

After asking three or four groups of people, he still couldn’t get satisfactory information.

Ordinarily, he’d have to leave first, and later inquire from the higher-ups in the bureau.

But now was different; he happened to know who in the Red Wave Space might have an idea of what happened.

He made his way to the Dungeon Waiting Hall, running into Sword Star and Negotiation Master coming out with solemn expressions.

Sword Star paused upon seeing Wu Chang appear, then said to Negotiation Master: ”He’s looking for me, you go ahead, we’ll catch up later.”

After parting with Negotiation Master, Sword Star quickly came to Wu Chang, surprised:

”How did you get here? The teleportation points to the outside in the Red Wave Space should be closed.”

Wu Chang put on an honest and simple smile and said: ”I was drinking in the public area earlier, heard there was a problem in the Red Wave Space, and found the teleportation point closed, so I came in directly from the branch’s elevator.”
