The Fierce Farm Girl Has A Secret Space

Chapter 2843: Chapter 2843: Ordinary Old Man (Part 3)

At first, that shoulder pat made him really uncomfortable and he wanted to dodge, but in the end he held back. When in Rome, do as the Romans do—since he’d come to the village, he had to get used to it. ”I’ll borrow your auspicious words, old sir.”

Old Eunuch Ping had wanted to scold the man, but seeing that Qi Wei wasn’t angry at all, he swallowed it back down.

”Hahaha.” Third Grand-uncle burst out laughing. ”Come on, let’s go over there and watch the kids catch mudfish. Later we’ll have Xinxin cook them up, and us old fellows can have a couple of drinks.”

Qi Wei nodded and followed them over.

Sure enough, at the head of the irrigation ditch, a bunch of kids were splashing barefoot in the water, and there were even several little buns stark naked, their bare bottoms on full display. Just looking at them was enough to make one want to laugh.

”Old Ancestor, we’ve caught loads of snacks for you to have with wine!” A little kid shouted to Third Grand-uncle and Fourth Grand-uncle.

”Good children! When we get back I’ll give you big pears to share.” Third Grand-uncle called back to the kids, full of vigor.

The little ones instantly got even happier.

From the fields came a few women’s shouts: ”You little rascal, if you’re going into the river, take your clothes off first! If you rip them, just see if I don’t beat you when we get home!”

”Then won’t your boy have his little bird dangling out?” someone chimed in, egging her on.

”Let it dangle then. Maybe someone will see his little bird is nice and come over to marry him, and I won’t have to worry anymore.”

Everyone burst into loud laughter.

Listening to all this, Qi Wei actually felt especially happy.

”Qi Er, want to come down and feel around for mudfish too?” Fourth Grand-uncle asked as he was already rolling up his trouser legs.

”Sure.” Qi Wei was itching to give it a try.

Old Eunuch Ping opened his mouth to stop him, but Third Grand-uncle clapped him on the shoulder. ”Aping, you come too. The more you’re in touch with the earth, the longer you’ll live. The land is the root of us common folk.”

”Ping Shun, you come too, don’t hold back. This water feels pretty nice.” Qi Wei was already standing in the water, beckoning to Old Eunuch Ping.

”This...” Old Eunuch Ping pulled a face, utterly torn.

Just then, a mischievous kid scooped up some water from a distance and splashed it over, then ran off giggling.

Qi Wei splashed water too, and before long Old Eunuch Ping was drenched and had no choice but to follow everyone into the ditch.

In an instant, the little water channel was roaring with laughter.

Not far away, Yang Ruxin watched the scene and let out a breath. Thankfully, the Emperor really could let himself go. Otherwise, even if he lived here, if he still held himself so tightly, there’d be no way to achieve any life-extending effect.

”Don’t worry. The reason His Majesty only completely left the capital after four years was because he stayed at the Crown Prince’s side to assist him. Now that the Crown Prince can truly shoulder everything alone, he really has let go.” Gu Qingheng glanced at Yang Ruxin. ”The man he is now is just an ordinary old fellow.”

Yang Ruxin couldn’t help but laugh. Even so, he was still the most distinguished ”ordinary” old fellow there was.

Just like that, the retired Emperor Qi Wei thoroughly blended into village life. When he had nothing to do, he’d go out for a stroll, or find the village chief Lizheng to play a game of chess, or seek out Third Grand-uncle and Fourth Grand-uncle for a drink. Then he’d tease the little kids for a bit, and sometimes he’d go sit in at the school to listen to lessons, or even give the children a lecture himself.

His days were the very picture of leisure.

After just over a month, Qi Wei discovered that his appetite had grown, his energy was better, and he hadn’t had a headache in ages. The health benefits were downright immediate.

Even the white hair on Old Eunuch Ping’s head seemed to have noticeably decreased.

Although a ”great deity” had been added to the mix, the Yang Family’s life went on as it always had, and the villagers likewise carried on just as they always did.
