Chapter 1928: Chapter 1928: The Reason (5)

However, when Yang Ruxin looked over, Cui Meng’s gaze was gentle, devoid of any discomfort.

”Madam Ruyi really is capable.” Cui Meng smiled gently, ”These few dishes are called homestyle, but to be honest, this is actually my first time trying them.”

”Indeed.” Emperor Xuanjing nodded, ”Suddenly, it feels like all the fish and meat I’ve eaten before were for nothing.”

”Oh dear, that girl is probably too scared to come to me now.” The Empress Dowager chuckled, turning to call Aunt Hong Ye over, ”Hong Ye, I can’t leave the palace at any time, so I’ll leave the matter of opening the store to you. Follow Xinxin’s instructions on how to proceed, and when the store opens, you’ll be my lady shopkeeper...”

”Really?” Hong Ye was elated upon hearing this, ”Thank you, Empress Dowager, I will certainly do my best.”

With the matter settled, Yang Ruxin relaxed. She didn’t dare ask the Empress Dowager to put forth money, instead proposing that the Hot Spring Manor join the venture, and the profits be split sixty-forty, with her receiving forty percent.

”You cheeky girl.” Empress Dowager Jiang laughed upon hearing this, ”This business is run by you, and you’re handling everything; such division isn’t fair, three parts for me is sufficient. As for that manor, it was a gift to you, claiming it back wouldn’t make sense, would it?” As she spoke, she glanced at Hong Ye, ”Go, fetch my private savings.”

Hong Ye hurried inside and brought out a box, handing it to Yang Ruxin.

”This is my savings from many years, I’m entrusting it all to you, don’t make me lose it.” Empress Dowager Jiang smiled warmly at Yang Ruxin.

”Empress Dowager, opening a store won’t need this much.” Yang Ruxin opened it to see, the old lady was truly generous, it was actually ten thousand taels.

”Take it, having ample Silver makes things easier; return what’s left after the store starts.” Empress Dowager Jiang waved her hand, ”I’m waiting for you to make me rich.”

”I certainly won’t let the Empress Dowager down.” Yang Ruxin agreed without further insistence.

”Alright, let’s go, I’ll also step out of the palace to see on opening day.” Empress Dowager Jiang glanced at Hong Ye, ”Escort Madam Ruyi out.”

With Hong Ye accompanying her, they reached the palace gate smoothly, where Gu Qingheng had been waiting all along.

”Hungry?” As soon as Yang Ruxin got on the carriage, Gu Qingheng handed over a food box, ”It’s still warm.”

”How did you know I haven’t eaten?” Yang Ruxin was indeed famished, she had just watched them eat earlier.

”Just a guess.” Gu Qingheng opened the food box, ”The crispy pastries you mentioned, along with some dumplings.”

”Thank you, husband.” Yang Ruxin gave Gu Qingheng a peck before digging in.

Gu Qiao drove the carriage, which was smooth, not disrupting her meal.

”Is there any news you want to tell me?” Yang Ruxin finished eating quickly, then glanced at Gu Qingheng.

”Concubine Feng is dead.” Gu Qingheng packed up the food box, ”She committed suicide.”

”I figured.” Yang Ruxin nodded, ”She was just a pawn anyway.” Pausing, she said, ”The Emperor raising me up today, there must be a reason behind it, right?”

”The Emperor wants the Shu Family to return to prominence.”

”Maternal grandfather’s family?” Yang Ruxin frowned.

Gu Qingheng nodded: ”Do you know what the Shu Family’s greatest strength is?”

Yang Ruxin raised her eyebrows slightly.

”Mining exploration.” Gu Qingheng took a cloth to wipe Yang Ruxin’s mouth, ”Back then, in my mother’s dowry, there was a mine map containing a silver, copper, and iron mine, which I later presented to the Crown Prince, and the Crown Prince presented it to the Emperor...”
