The Fierce Farm Girl Has A Secret Space

Chapter 1550: Chapter 1550: Taking Shelter from the Rain (2)

Yang Ruxin nodded, ”Let’s see if there are any manors or farmhouses ahead.”

Indeed, fortune favors the bold. Just as raindrops began to fall from the sky, a house appeared in the distance, standing alone in the wilderness. Although it seemed a bit odd, there was no time to consider it further.

Gao Dazhuang hurriedly went up and knocked on the door.

Soon, an old man with a pot-like bald head opened the door, ”What do you want?”

”Elder brother, as you can see, a heavy rain is coming. We’re just passing by this place, and our cart is full of ladies; we really can’t travel any further. We would like to take refuge from the rain in your esteemed residence...”

Du Juan came over and handed over a purse.

The old man sized up Yang Ruxin and the others who came after, then opened the courtyard gate: ”This house is newly built, meant for temporarily storing crops from the surrounding fields. It’s quite spartan, but if you don’t mind, come on in and take shelter...”

The courtyard was not small, with four main rooms and two rows of side rooms to the east and west. There were covered corridors between the rooms, so moving between them wouldn’t get one wet.

The old man lived in the west wing, so he led everyone to the east wing, where there were three rooms, which should be enough for the people to take refuge temporarily.

No sooner had they entered the house than the raindrops outside joined into lines, quickly turning into a downpour. The world became a gray blur, and even the wind began to rise. If they continued on the road, not only would they get soaked, but the cart might even be overturned by the wind.

Under such circumstances, having a place to shelter from the rain was already fortunate. What was there to complain about?

Then, they used some silver to buy some convenience from the old man, which was to go to the kitchen to make some food.

Yang Ruxin had a lot of food and drink in her space, but it wasn’t convenient to take them out. They could only make do with some coarse rice and broken corn grits provided by the old man, steaming a big pot of rice. He also provided some pickles, and everyone managed to fill their stomachs.

But the rain showed no signs of letting up; instead, it was getting heavier.

It looked like they could only spend the night here.

Yet Yang Ruxin always felt uneasy, as if something was about to happen, but the feeling was vague, and she didn’t know how to respond.

”Miss, come and rest for a while,” Chun Gui made a bed out of some Gancao and looked at Yang Ruxin.

Yang Ruxin shook her head, ”You all rest.” With that, she walked out of the room and stood in the corridor, watching the heavy rain.

”Miss, it’s raining heavily here. Better go inside,” Du Man reminded Yang Ruxin, ”to avoid catching a cold.”

Yang Ruxin nodded, about to turn around, but suddenly stopped and turned to look toward the main house. If she hadn’t been seeing things, there should have been a shadow darting inside, and moreover, she had heard some odd noises amid the sound of the rain...

There was something strange about this house.

Without revealing anything, Yang Ruxin went back inside and warned everyone to stay alert. Regardless of what might happen, nobody should panic and they should follow orders.

Although everyone was not sure what was happening, they all nodded in agreement.

Nightfall came quickly, but the rain continued to pour.

The pot-like bald old man took the initiative to bring over some hot porridge and cakes. Yang Ruxin checked and found no problem with them.

After eating, everyone leaned on piles of straw and closed their eyes.

Yang Ruxin quietly let Xiaobai and Xiaohei out. On the way back, she had taken Xiaohei and his family into her space, and with Xiaolun and Xiaoyin not by her side, defending so many people with just her and Du Man seemed too inadequate.
