Urban Divine Doctor Descends the Mountain

Chapter 582: Chapter 582: Old Friends Meet

Huang Tao and Lin Dong’s lives were completely different.

Lin Dong failed the third year of high school four years ago, and went to study Taoist cultivation with his master, Daoist Qing Shan, at the Qing Shan observatory. He only left the mountain this year.

As for Huang Tao, he was a good student. He was admitted to this province’s key university: Normal University.

This year after graduation, he returned to County No.1 Middle School and became a teacher there.

Lin Dong remembered that his dream had been to become a teacher, to educate and inspire.

Now, it seemed that he had fulfilled his own dream.

Soon, Lin Dong arrived in Hedong New District.

Following the address given by Huang Tao, he found Huang Tao’s current home.

After knocking on the door, it was Huang Tao himself who greeted him.

”Brother, you’re here, ah,” Huang Tao was not tall, under one meter seventy, wearing glasses, clean and tidy.

Seeing Lin Dong arrive, he patted his shoulder, clearly delighted.

The two brothers hadn’t seen each other in over four years. Huang Tao had tried to contact Lin Dong before but could not. Thinking it would be the same this time for the wedding, he didn’t expect to actually get in touch, and even more surprising was that Lin Dong was still in Shi County.

Seeing his old friend, Lin Dong was also very happy, giving him a strong hug.

”Come in quickly. Xiao Jing, go stir-fry two dishes, my good brother Lin Dong is here! I’m going to have a few drinks with him!”

Huang Tao turned his head and called out to someone inside the house.

It was then that Lin Dong noticed a woman with delicate features sitting in the living room.

This woman looked somewhat familiar to Lin Dong.

After a moment, he remembered her, she was Chen Jing.

She had also been their classmate, the English class representative during their high school days, and the goddess whom Huang Tao secretly adored.

Unexpectedly, the two of them had actually ended up together and were even discussing marriage.

”Sister-in-law, hello!” Lin Dong was happy for his brother, who was about to marry the woman he liked.

He warmly addressed Chen Jing as sister-in-law, but her attitude was not very welcoming.

She seemed indifferent and did not go to cook as Huang Tao had said she would.

”Drink, drink, drink, that’s all you know, spending all day drinking with your bad-influence friends. I even have to help you pay back part of the house and car loans every month.”

”You’ve been working for almost a year and have achieved nothing. Others who graduated at the same time as you are already junior leaders at the school. And you? You’re nothing, not even with a permanent position!”

Huang Tao appeared somewhat embarrassed by Chen Jing’s words, feeling the sting to his pride.

This house had been purchased by him this year to get married.

In addition to that, he had also bought a Volkswagen worth more than a hundred thousand.

Both the house and car were on loans.

Without a choice, he was getting married and taking Chen Jing as his wife. Her parents demanded a betrothal gift of eighty-eight thousand, plus a house and car in the county town.

In order to marry the person he liked, Huang Tao had to ask his parents and relatives for money.

His parents weren’t wealthy, just farmers in the hometown. But to provide for their son’s marriage, they gave all the money they had saved from farming over the years to him.

Still, it wasn’t enough. Despite Shi County being a small county town, the housing prices were also high, close to ten thousand per square meter.

To afford the down payment on this house, Huang Tao was nearly driven to robbery.

Fortunately, in the end, he managed to borrow money, paid the down payment on the house, and covered the betrothal gift.

But it had left him penniless, with all future salaries already spent in advance.

Though Chen Jing was willing to marry Huang Tao, she looked down on him for not being more successful, resulting in many complaints.

Now, she even criticized Lin Dong in front of him, labeling him as one of Huang Tao’s bad influences and berating Huang Tao.

Huang Tao felt very embarrassed and said somewhat angrily,

”Lin Dong is a brother I haven’t seen for years, we used to share a bunk bed. What’s wrong with a drink after not seeing each other for so long?”

”You might consider him a brother, but he doesn’t consider you one. Look at him, he hasn’t brought any gifts after such a long time apart,” Chen Jing retorted unwillingly.

Lin Dong had arrived in a hurry and indeed hadn’t bought a gift.

However, he had a Protective Jade Amulet with him, something he had just finished making. He thought of giving it to Huang Tao.

At that moment, he took the Jade Amulet out from within his clothes.

”Huang Tao, I came in a rush and didn’t buy anything. This Jade Amulet, I made it earlier. Wearing it can keep you safe,” he said, offering the Jade Amulet to Huang Tao.

Huang Tao waved his hand and replied, ”Between brothers coming to drink, why bring gifts? It’s not necessary, not at all,” refusing the offer.

Lin Dong insisted and gave it to him.

”Keep it, this is a good thing, it really can keep you safe,” he said, stuffing it into Huang Tao’s pocket.

Huang Tao didn’t take it seriously and pulled Lin Dong to the table.

Regarding Chen Jing, she mumbled disdainfully under her breath, ”Giving away a piece of street vendor jade as if it’s some treasure.”

Lin Dong chose to ignore it. Back when they were in the same class, Chen Jing never thought much of Lin Dong.

As the English class representative, she had little regard for Lin Dong, who was poor in English. Not having made it to university, and now that they had graduated and entered society, she looked down on him even more.

Lin Dong did not react to Chen Jing’s mutterings but continued to sit down with Huang Tao.

Since Chen Jing was unwilling to cook, Huang Tao brought out peanuts, watermelon seeds, and wine, enjoying them along with the drinks.

The two brothers, having not seen each other for a long time, chatted away freely.
