Apocalyptic Flood: Sexy Beauty Neighbor's Midnight Plea for Food

Chapter 1103: Chapter 448: Tempting Tofu

”Whoa, what’s this?”

”Is this soybeans?”

”My God, the whole field is covered?”

”Damn, isn’t it over a dozen acres?”

...

On the hillside of Meishan, within the terraced fields, mutant soybeans taller than a person were growing vigorously.

Every soybean plant was laden with pods, full to the brim.

Each soybean was the size of a thumb nail, twice as large as ordinary soybeans!

Zhou Wanxi and the others stared at the mutant soybeans, utterly dumbfounded.

Everyone excitedly asked each other questions.

Everyone knew what these soybeans meant!

They meant food.

In the era of the great flood, food meant life.

Wen Xiao turned back to the crowd and smiled, ”Everyone, these are Xiangyun Beans from our Yangshan. They are a mutant variety of soybeans. Our task today is to harvest the soybeans and transport them to the food processing factory.”

”Can these soybeans really be eaten?” Zhou Wanxi couldn’t help but ask excitedly.

Wen Xiao laughed, ”Of course, why would we grow them if they couldn’t be eaten?”

Zhou Wanxi’s eyes reddened immediately, moved beyond words, ”They can be eaten, they can actually be eaten! If we had these soybeans on the boat back then, how would so many people have died?”

Li Chongming also had tears in his eyes, murmuring, ”No wonder, no wonder Mr. Liang said we’ve already achieved self-sufficiency here. With so many soybeans, such a yield completely meets everyone’s needs.”

Xiao Mingtian was equally excited, ”This is the real shelter. No matter how good Mist City is, it doesn’t have as many edible resources as this.”

Meng Qin turned to Wen Xiao, unable to hold back, ”Instructor, do we have a processing factory here?”

Wen Xiao nodded with a smile, ”Yes, after the soybeans are harvested, you will go help at the processing factory, you’ll find out soon enough.”

The crowd glanced at each other, feeling a rush of enthusiasm, eager to visit the soy product processing factory immediately.

Next came a busy time.

The task of harvesting Xiangyun Beans used to be a physically demanding job for ordinary people before the great flood.

However, for the current superpower users, it was quite effortless.

A team of twenty, with Speed Ability Users in charge of quick harvesting, and Strength-type Superpower Users responsible for transport.

Elemental Ability Users had it even easier, directly using Elemental Skills to encase the soybeans, ensuring not a single bean fell.

After the soybeans were harvested, Fire Attribute Superpower Users burned the stalks, followed by Earth Attribute Superpower Users who turned the soil.

Finally, helpers from the ranch and slaughterhouse came to fertilize.

The process was incredibly smooth.

By the afternoon, Wen Xiao’s team had completed their assigned plot tasks.

Team members like Li Chongming, Zhou Wanxi, and Xiao Mingtian had their main attributes reaching forty-five points or more.

Superpower Users with such abilities found these farming tasks a piece of cake.

Even after finishing the work, they were still full of energy, having only expended half of their superpower.

Wen Xiao clapped his hands, saying, ”Alright, next the soil turning and fertilizing team will take over; everyone follow me to the soy product processing factory.”

Hearing this, the group was overjoyed, eagerly following Wen Xiao to the processing factory.

The factory wasn’t far from the fields, located near Jieshi Academy.

Though the factory wasn’t large, it resembled a giant warehouse.

Inside, the factory was bustling, with loud clanging sounds echoing continuously.

Zhou Wanxi and the others looked inside, seeing many soybeans being washed clean and quickly poured into two huge millstones nearby.

The large millstones had many round holes, into which the soybeans were falling.

Four huge wooden stakes were inserted into the sides of the millstones, resembling a giant wheel.

Strength-type Superpower Users were currently pushing these stakes, causing the millstones to rotate.

Occasionally, Water Attribute Superpower Users would summon water flows to add to the holes.

Before long, copious amounts of soy milk began flowing from between the two millstones.

The lower millstone was shaped like a cone, with the soy milk flowing downwards, quickly accumulating in a large wooden barrel beneath the cone.

Once a barrel was full, someone would instantly replace it, and a new barrel would be swiftly set in place.

The full barrels of soy milk were either sealed and quickly transported out or taken to the factory next door.

Over there, they started processing tofu, fermented bean curd, dried bean curd, bean ribbons, and tea-flavored bean curd.

The entire process was mature and had developed into a production line-like operation.

Zhou Wanxi, Li Chongming, and others were delighted to see this.

”Is this the processing factory?”

”Yangshan has actually begun making its own tea-flavored bean curd and tofu?”

”There’s tofu, it smells so good. I can’t even remember the last time I ate tofu.”

Even the Captain, who was a prominent figure in Mist City, hadn’t tasted this warm tofu or soy milk.

Ever since the great flood, it had been a long time since they had eaten it.

At this moment, each person’s eyes shone with green light, eagerly wanting to rush up and drink a barrel of soy milk right away.

Wen Xiao witnessed this and sternly reminded them, ”No sneaking food during work. After today’s work ends, your points will be credited, and you can come to buy some then.”

”Didn’t you say we needed a points card?” Xiao Mingtian quickly asked.

”The points card will take time to create, and your information needs to be recorded.”

Wen Xiao said, then his tone shifted, and he laughed: ”But you can put it on your tab first, and when we distribute the cards, our accounting staff here will automatically settle it.”

”If you’re reluctant to use your points, the military base’s big pot meal at night actually has tofu too, though it’s not as fresh as here.”

A few people swallowed their saliva, suddenly feeling full of hope for the days in Yangshan.

With Zhou Wanxi and the captain looking like that, you can imagine how the ordinary crew members below felt.

They all genuinely started looking forward to the day they would become members of Yangshan.

An afternoon tortured by the aroma of the tofu, by the time Zhou Wanxi and the others got off work, they were already starving.

As they walked out of the processing plant under Wen Xiao’s lead, discussions could be heard everywhere from the former crew members around them.

”Damn, I’m almost drooling dry today.”

”Oh my, I really love eating tofu, I almost forgot how long it’s been since I’ve had tofu.”

”Me too, especially frozen tofu, if you cook it with fish, I swear I could devour three bowls of rice.”

”You’re a Strength-type Superpower User, and you only eat three bowls of rice?”

”Damn, I’m talking about before, before the great flood.”

”Do you guys think that once we become Yangshan residents, we’ll be able to buy these foods too?”

”Of course we can, didn’t the instructor say? We earn points when we work, if we can’t wait, we can use tonight’s points to get some to try!”

”Damn, let’s get some! I can’t wait!”

”Me too!”

...

Similar noisy voices prompted Zhou Wanxi and the others to get up too.

Meng Qin was the first to speak, ”Guys, how about we spend some points and buy some tofu to try?”

Xiao Mingtian immediately agreed: ”I think that’s a good idea, after all, we earn points to spend them.”

Zhou Wanxi hesitated for a moment and said: ”I’m just afraid these points are important, and we might need them later on for many things.”

Xiao Mingtian instantly replied: ”How many points could eating some tofu cost? With our skills, are we seriously worried about not being able to earn points in the future?”

Zhou Wanxi licked his lips, looked at the relatively silent Li Chongming, and asked: ”Old Li, what do you think?”

Li Chongming was also somewhat tempted, and spoke with a dry throat: ”Let’s first ask how many points per piece.”

Meng Qin immediately got excited and said: ”I already checked, it’s not expensive, five points per pound, each of us can pitch in one point, let’s get four points to try a taste, how about it?”

”I think it’s a plan!”

”Let’s do it!”

The group quickly made a decision, and excitedly went to Wen Xiao to put it on the tab, spending four points to buy less than a pound of tofu.

After dividing it into four pieces, each person received one.

Meng Qin held the steaming tofu, the aroma of the soybean product eagerly rushed into his nostrils.

Heaven bless them, these people had eaten nothing but mutant fish for years on end, day after day, month after month, until they were sick of it.

This was the first tofu they had eaten since the great flood.

No one else needed to say a word, the four of them immediately took a bite.

In an instant, the rich aroma of tofu assaulted their taste buds, exploding in their mouths.

The warm, fragrant tofu even carried a hint of a sweet taste.

Causing a dreamy expression on all four faces.

By the time they came to their senses, the tofu in their hands was already gone!

Zhou Wanxi suddenly snapped back and shouted: ”Damn, how did we finish it?”

Xiao Mingtian couldn’t help but add: ”This is just too delicious.”

Li Chongming also seemed speechless: ”Too little, definitely not enough to eat.”

They initially intended to take some home to try at night.

They hadn’t even left the processing plant’s entrance and it was all gone!

”Shall we get more?” Meng Qin suggested wickedly.

Li Chongming looked at Meng Qin and couldn’t help but say: ”Seriously, Meng Qin, aren’t you from the Spiritual Ability Sect? Doesn’t the Spiritual Ability Sect have tofu to eat?”

Meng Qin rolled his eyes and said: ”Do you think mutant soybeans grow everywhere?”

”Even if they are wild, without anyone specifically planting them, where would you get tofu from?”

”All the land resources of the Three Great Sects are owned by the sects, you can’t plant privately.”

”Apparently Yangshan is the same now, all land resources are under Yangshan’s unified planning,” Zhou Wanxi said.

Li Chongming nodded slightly: ”That’s certain, with the great flood spreading, land resources are scarce, centralized management is necessary.”

”The flood is compressing human living space, land resources will surely be extremely important, unified management is the correct approach,” Xiao Mingtian agreed.

Meng Qin sighed: ”Everyone knows the logic, but damn, even after the Three Great Sects unified management of the land, you don’t see them growing vegetables or grain, people below are still going hungry and lacking clothes.”

”The Three Great Sects continue like this, they’ll collapse sooner or later,” Zhou Wanxi shook his head with a cold smile.

Li Chongming slightly frowned and said: ”I’m afraid not necessarily.”

”How come? The shelters run by Mr. Liang are prosperous,”

Zhou Wanxi retorted: ”The way the Three Great Sects play it, one day their followers will see through it.”

Li Chongming shook his head and said: ”How could they see through? With the flood raging outside, the ordinary followers would likely find it difficult to leave the islands, they might spend their whole lives surviving on the Three Great Sects’ territory.”

”Those with a bit of skill, who’ve made it to high positions in the Three Great Sects, would they willingly give up their positions as vested interest holders to find trouble for themselves?”

”Also, a well-functioning shelter like Yangshan probably requires a lot of effort, especially in the early stages, exhausting a lot of materials to build it,”

”The Three Great Sects can’t imitate that, so they will surely try to destroy Yangshan.”

Xiao Mingtian immediately said in a deep voice: ”If they can’t compete, they’ll destroy it?”

”Damn, they really might do that!” Meng Qin couldn’t help but say.

As they chatted, they tried to distract themselves from the allure of the tofu, joining the larger group, and quickly headed toward Yunquan Temple.
