Chapter 237: Chapter 40: The War Begins

Lin Feng’s soul power and his understanding of formations had reached a completely new level; within this extreme destruction and rebirth, he had undergone the most important transformation. This transformation not only resulted in a qualitative and quantitative metamorphosis of Lin Feng’s skill as a Spirit Array Master, but more importantly, Lin Feng was able to complete the arrangement of the entire grand formation, a formation that was crucial to the fate of the entire True Martial Country.

Two hours later.

When the last spiritual pattern was woven together, Lin Feng had successfully arranged the entire composite formation. It emanated astonishing energy fluctuations that swept through heaven and earth, and the power of the formation was truly astounding, leaving people shocked and moved.

The old Spirit Array Master and the other two stood dumbfounded, watching everything unfold. It truly was a success, the grand formation that enveloped the entire Moonfall City had been completed by a sixteen or seventeen-year-old youth—a miracle in every sense of the word.

Boom boom boom…

The very earth trembled!

Everyone’s expressions shifted slightly, and Lin Feng said, “The Beastman Army has arrived. Let’s go, back inside the city walls!”

Following that, the four of them entered Moonfall City.

“How is it?” Huang Shilan anxiously looked towards Lin Feng because the formation was too important for Moonfall City.

Now, the Beastman Empire’s army of over 400,000 had already rushed forward, and a sense of despair pervaded within Moonfall City.

“No problem, just sit back and enjoy the show,” Lin Feng said with a cold smile curving at the corner of his mouth.

“That’s wonderful!” Huang Shilan’s extremely beautiful face broke into a breathtaking smile.

Boom boom boom! Boom boom boom!

The ground shook violently.

“They’re here! The Beastman Empire’s army is here!” Many soldiers on the city walls looked toward the dense ranks of the Beastman Army with a mixture of fear and panic.

The Beastman Army had completely surrounded Moonfall City, making it impenetrable.

From the directions of the east, south, west, and north gates, heavy troops were encircling the city, turning Moonfall City into an isolated fortress with no escape.

“Heave ho! Heave ho!”

Moreover, Earth Demons, one after another, were pushing enormous siege engines, leading the vanguard. The dreadful aura of death released by the Earth Demons weighed heavily on everyone, making them feel the intense oppression.

The massive army of the Beastman Empire stopped three miles outside of Moonfall City.

This commander of the Beastman Empire army was a young prince.

He was dressed in a golden battle robe and, like the other Beastmen, had a very robust physique.

This was Prince Selt of the Beastman Empire, the most beloved son of the Beast Emperor. Not only was he extraordinarily talented, but he was also brave in combat, enjoying great prestige among the troops.

But at this moment, Selt’s countenance was extremely ugly.

For during this military campaign of the Beastman Empire, though they had the assistance of Demon Dao Experts, things were not going smoothly. They were repelled on the frontlines by the Three Great Armies of True Martial Country, suffering heavy casualties. And one of Selt’s most trusted Blood Robe Beast Tamers had been slain by a young human, which had outraged Selt when he heard the news.

Thus, Selt discussed with the Demon Dao Expert Lii Daoxie. Since they were retreating on the front lines, they decided to strike from another angle. They targeted Moonfall City and Huang Shilan; moving their piece Wuu Tiangang, their plan had seemed flawless.

But the appearance of Lin Feng had turned the tide of battle. The Beastman Empire’s army suffered heavy losses and had yet to capture Huang Shilan.

With things not going their way, it was natural that Selt was quite irate.

Lii Daoxie, who had lost an arm, rode a blood-colored giant wolf at Selt’s left side, with a malevolent gleam in his eyes.

“Go and deliver the message!” Selt ordered.

“Yes, Your Highness the Prince!”

A slender Beastman walked out. This was a Beastman of the “Silver Fox Clan,” a unique tribe among the Beastmen not known for their brawn, but for their wisdom.

This member of the Silver Fox Clan was also Selt’s think tank. He looked towards Moonfall City with an air of arrogance, shouting loudly, “People of Moonfall City, listen well! You are now surrounded by the Beastman Empire’s million strong army. You cannot defend this city. Surrender now, hand over Moonfall City, and you may yet preserve your lives. If you resist stubbornly, when the time comes, the Beastman Empire will surely level Moonfall City to the ground, and all of you will become lost souls beneath the blade!”

Millions of valiant troops were of course an exaggerated number. This was common in war, where boosting the size of one’s military to intimidate the enemy was a strategy. But True Martial Country did have over four hundred thousand, and upon hearing the shouts of the Beastman from the Silver Fox Clan, Moonfall City, already teetering on the edge of panic, became even more unsettled, gripped by extreme unease, given the considerable disparity in their military forces.

“Morale is low! This won’t do! Sound the assembly horn! Execute Wuu Tiangang to raise our Battle Flag!” Lin Feng said.

Huang Shilan hesitated briefly, then nodded, saying, “Okay.”

Huang Shilan gave the orders.

Wooo wooo…

The horn signaling assembly echoed forth. The soldiers stationed in Moonfall City quickly gathered, with countless civilians also assembling below the city walls to see what was happening.

“Let me go, let me go! The Beastman Empire’s grand army will soon break through the city walls. If you don’t let me go, you’ll all suffer, and I’ll ensure you’ll have no grave to lie in,” Wuu Tiangang struggled vehemently.

“Kneel!”

The two cultivators escorting Wuu Tiangang over kicked him hard in the legs.

With a thud! Wuu Tiangang kneeled on the ground.

“Isn’t that Deputy City Lord Wuu Tiangang?”

Many people began to murmur among themselves.

Swoosh!

Lin Feng drew the Black Dragon Sword and declared loudly, “Wuu Tiangang, the Deputy City Lord of Moonfall City, colluded with the Beastman Empire and betrayed True Martial Country, causing the deaths of thousands of our brothers. Heaven and Earth will not tolerate such a man if he is left alive,”

“Kill him, kill him!”

Upon hearing of Wuu Tiangang’s abhorrent deeds, everyone roared with hatred.

Wuu Tiangang looked on in terror at the sea of faces.

“No, don’t kill me, I want to see the Marshal. His Excellency would never let me die. Shilan, help me, don’t let him kill me,” Wuu Tiangang looked at Huang Shilan in panic.

“Did you ever think about the thousands of brothers who died so horribly? Aren’t their lives lives too?”

Huang Shilan said coldly and then turned her head away, no longer sparing Wuu Tiangang a glance.

“This man sought glory at the expense of his country and killed his compatriots; he deserves death.”

Lin Feng shouted and, gripping the sword with both hands, he swung it down.

Spurt!

Wuu Tiangang’s head was sent flying, and blood spurted high into the air.

“Well killed!” countless people yelled till their voices cracked, the soldiers who had survived the battle of Death Canyon were especially moved to tears.

Lin Feng grabbed Wuu Tiangang’s head and walked towards the city tower. Standing atop the walls, he held Wuu Tiangang’s head and looked coldly towards Selt and the others, shouting, “Here lies Wuu Tiangang’s head; we swear to stand or fall with Moonfall City!”

“Prince, it’s that kid who killed the Blood Robe Beast Tamer and foiled our ambush at Death Canyon, our plan to capture Huang Shilan,” The one-armed Lii Daoxie said, his gaze filled with hatred as he looked at Lin Feng.

“Is that him?” Selt’s face brimmed with murderous intent. “I despise him! He’s ruined the great affairs of the Beastman Empire. If these people refuse to recognize what’s good for them, then we attack! When the city falls, I will flay that young man alive.”

The order to attack was quickly given.

Woooo woooo…

A low, ominous horn sounded.

“To battle!”

The endless and vast Beastman Army charged towards Moonfall City.

Behind them, Earth Demons as tall as hundreds of meters pushed immense siege engines slowly towards Moonfall City. The siege engines were so heavy they seemed like mountains being moved, and the earth quaked violently under their advance.
