The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!

Chapter 524: Chapter 524: The Owner of the House

Since you’re here, go have a look!

Still avoiding the main entrance, Xia Wenjin climbed over the side wall of the courtyard.

The courtyard was clean and quiet, seemingly unchanged from before, yet somehow, slightly different.

She knew very well that she wouldn’t encounter Huang Zheng on the street; in fact, this place was even less likely.

Yet, this clean place, even being closer, calmed her mood considerably. The gentle breeze seemed to blow away the troubled feelings within.

However, Xia Wenjin still didn’t go down; she sat on the courtyard wall, looking at that side room.

Staying in someone else’s house to recuperate naturally couldn’t happen in the main house. At that time, she randomly chose an insignificant side room; the small room was remarkably sunlit. She still remembered Huang Zheng’s complexion, from being pallor without a trace of blood, as if unable to recover, to slowly showing hints of rosiness.

The days seemed long, but it was merely a few short days.

With her superb medical skills, bringing someone back from the brink of death felt quite rewarding.

After sitting for a while, the fresh breeze scattered her inebriation. Looking around, she chuckled wryly; she thought her heart was as hard as iron, yet unexpectedly, even after drinking, it felt just as vulnerable.

Now that the alcohol wore off, the person should leave!

She was about to rise when she heard a creak.

The sound was faint, but with Xia Wenjin’s sharp ears, she heard it distinctly.

How was this empty house now inhabited?

The sound originated from the main room, which meant the owner returned?

Xia Wenjin stayed seated, fearing she might frighten someone.

No matter who it was, suddenly seeing a woman sitting on their courtyard wall would surely be a shock.

The owner of this house was unknown. Previously, due to urgency, she stayed without permission to save a life, despite leaving a silver note, inevitably feeling guilty.

However, she intended only to take a quick peek.

As the door opened, a tall figure emerged, dressed in white, aside from a slightly pale complexion, looking spirited. With an elegant and noble visage, his eyes, like black obsidian, seemingly hid stars and seas, deep and bright.

Seeing this figure, Xia Wenjin was taken aback; wasn’t this Huang Zheng?

They had clearly left together that day; how was Huang Zheng appearing here, emerging from the main house? Could he, like herself, be revisiting the old place?

Just as Xia Wenjin felt astonished, Huangfu Jingchen sensed something amiss; he looked in this direction, and their gazes met in the air.

Followed by Huangfu Jingchen’s joyful and surprised voice: ”Wenjin, you’ve come!”

Xia Wenjin pressed her hand on the courtyard wall, effortlessly leaping down, walking lightly towards Huangfu Jingchen, and smiled: ”How come you’re here too? Aren’t you afraid the owner would mistake you for a thief?”

Seeing Xia Wenjin again, Huangfu Jingchen was delighted and smiled: ”Not at all. If you wish to come over, you’re welcome anytime!”

”Yours?” Xia Wenjin’s eyes glinted.

Huangfu Jingchen explained: ”I needed a place to heal, and didn’t dare stay at the inn, so I thought to buy a property. This house’s owner was selling, and the price was reasonable, so I purchased it!”

Huangfu Jingchen’s injuries hadn’t fully healed; Prince Cheng and Princess Cheng suggested he find a place to recover and avoid appearing publicly, due to someone daring to target their son, still holding a grudge. If word got out that Huangfu Jingchen hadn’t died from an assassination, being of the Crown Prince’s stature, they might downplay the situation.

Princess Cheng wouldn’t allow her son to be wronged so easily.

If those responsible dared to target her son, she’d ensure the instigator loses the Crown Prince’s position. This was under the circumstance that her son was alive; had Huangfu Jingchen truly died, everyone involved would face deserved repercussions!

Through Prince Cheng and Princess Cheng’s journey to the Capital City, Huangfu Jingchen felt their care, though unable to live with them, even temporarily unable to leave the property. Knowing they were in the Capital City was sufficient.

To avoid attention, the house remained quiet, with Yan Nan tending to his daily needs, and a cook handling meals.

Having spent years in the Jianghu taking care of himself, the servants lived only in the outer courtyard.

In the midst of some dismay, suddenly seeing Xia Wenjin was akin to dreaming!

His joy was genuine, but concerned he might startle her.

Upon hearing about his house purchase, Xia Wenjin wasn’t surprised; from their first meeting, she knew he came from noble lineage. Though a property in the Capital City costs substantial Silver, to a wealthy family, it wasn’t much!

Huangfu Jingchen called outside, ”Yan Nan!”

A young man, around twenty, entered through the courtyard gate. Seeing the unexpected addition, his gaze turned sharp but relaxed upon recognizing Xia Wenjin; he’d seen her in Wangshan Town, remembering her transformation from an emaciated boy into a beautiful woman.

Knowing she was an acquaintance of the Princely Heir, Yan Nan clasped his hands in greeting and said, ”Is there anything, sir?”

Huangfu Jingchen said, ”Brew some tea and have Aunt Zhou make some snacks!”

Yan Nan replied, ”Certainly!”

Soon, the tea was ready. Huangfu Jingchen, joyful, said, ”Wenjin, it’s great seeing you again. I was worried you’d already left the Capital City!”

Though he couldn’t move freely, he planned that if Xia Wenjin really left the Capital City, he’d find a way to leave and seek her out.

Father was right, if you fancy a lady, never give up; if you fail to act like Father King does for Mother Concubine, how could the word ’like’ even apply?

The position of Princely Heir was irrelevant to him! His brother Haichen could certainly assume it.

But if the girl he liked left and was missed forever, the chance of reuniting barely attainable, it’d be a lifelong regret!

His joy was genuine; his obsidian-like eyes gleamed brightly, Xia Wenjin was dazzled by that light. The boy’s sincere, unrestrained laughter awakened a warmth in her heart as well.

She sighed, saying, ”My father came to the Capital City. Although he’s only pausing, while he remains, I’ll also stay here!”

”That’s wonderful!” Huangfu Jingchen was thrilled.

Xia Wenjin glanced at him quizzically; she was devising ways to persuade her father to leave, what was good about staying?

Perceiving something odd in Xia Wenjin’s expression, Huangfu Jingchen asked keenly: ”Are you upset? Is there anything, requiring my help?”
