The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!

Chapter 522: Chapter 522: This Is a Test

Xia Wenjin glanced at him and said, ”That depends on what kind of wine it is!”

As soon as these words were spoken, Huangfu Yuxuan’s suspicions deepened. Was there really something wrong with the wine? Was it poisoned?

Not good! He always thought he was cautious, but he still let his guard down.

Xia Wanqing is her father; if she drugged the wine, she could have given the antidote to Xia Wanqing first.

Seeing the suspicion and vigilance in Huangfu Yuxuan’s eyes, Xia Wenjin sneered. Indeed, that boldness and trust were fake; this suspicion and indifference were his true nature.

It’s a pity her father was already drunk and didn’t see this side of him.

She scoffed lightly and disdainfully said, ”What’s that look for? Think I poisoned the wine? Don’t measure a gentleman’s heart with a petty mind!”

Huangfu Yuxuan quickly realized he was being overly cautious. He laughed heartily to cover his earlier rudeness and said, ”I didn’t mean that! Miss is a lady, a true noble!”

If it really were poisoned, how could it not affect the wine’s taste at all? The wine’s strength was quite potent; he was feeling tipsy, and looking at Xia Wenjin, he found the girl in front of him even more attractive!

He raised the bowl, his tongue tied, and said, ”Thanks to you, Miss, I get to drink such good wine. I, I’m happy! Didn’t expect you to know Yan Zui Xuan better than I do!”

Xia Wenjin squinted slightly and said, ”So?”

Have to admit, this guy was sharp. Was he probing?

Huangfu Yuxuan hiccupped, and the topic veered far off, ”Wenjin, your temperament suits me. I, uh, my greatest wish in life is to abandon everything, roam the Jianghu, and enjoy the feeling of absolute freedom! I hope, when I travel the Jianghu in the future, you’ll accompany me!”

Xia Wenjin’s eyes narrowed; he was speaking so nobly. His greatest wish was to abandon everything and roam the Jianghu? Who’s he kidding?

But this guy could hold his liquor; although his words were slurred now, his mind was still sharp, and he could still cleverly hide his true intentions while nonchalantly flirting with her?

The wine Yan Huanlin brought her contained two jars of high-strength brew.

The so-called first brew is the first distillation, with a high concentration that’s very intoxicating but more aromatic and mellow.

Only the jar she drank was the usual excellent wine for sale.

The three jars looked similar and smelled similar, but Xia Wenjin could easily tell them apart.

What a waste! Such a good jar of first brew, poured into his worthless gut, and a bowl from her father’s jar given to him, yet he still wasn’t drunk!

Huangfu Yuxuan, still looking tenderly at Xia Wenjin, seemed to wait for her response.

Xia Wenjin: ”...”

This Huangfu Yuxuan truly isn’t normal, eating peacefully at the same table with him; she already used up her life’s patience.

Travel the Jianghu together in the future? How repulsive is that?

If she weren’t afraid of him sweet-talking her father again, stirred by feelings, Xia Wenjin certainly wouldn’t be here.

Seeing her silence, Huangfu Yuxuan’s expression turned even more sincere. He stared intently at the girl before him and said, ”Wenjin, you’re truly beautiful! You’re far more beautiful than the noble ladies I’ve met in the Capital City, and you have personality. Yours is the kind I like. Actually, when I first went to Haotian Village, I only thought I was saving a life. But that day, seeing you, your image settled in my heart. Even though you ran away from marriage, I don’t care; I believe you’ll return, and my sincerity will win you over!”

Xia Wenjin looked at him, her eyes deep like a bottomless icy pool, her voice devoid of any emotion: ”Do you believe your own words?”

”Believe, why not?” Huangfu Yuxuan smiled. Gotta admit, with such looks, his smile was quite pleasing, but in a lover’s eyes, one sees a beauty, while in an enemy’s, an ugly one.

This face before Xia Wenjin now held no advantage.

Huangfu Yuxuan tried to show his most handsome and charming smile and said, ”You’re right, I’ve deceived many people. Where I am now, if I don’t scheme against others, I’ll be schemed against, so a lot of what I say is false. But this is the truth: Xia Wenjin, I truly want to marry you!”

Xia Wenjin’s gaze shifted; admitting to deceiving many people and saying many false things seemed somewhat sincere. Last life, she never figured out why he wanted to marry her; this life, it’s the same. She ran away from the marriage, yet why does he persist?

She said calmly, ”Then how about you tell me why you want to marry me? With your status, marrying me isn’t a good match; it will only bring you trouble. A noble Imperial Grandson, marrying a Jianghu woman — do you want to be like your Fifth Imperial Uncle?”

”Hehe...” Huangfu Yuxuan laughed and slurred, ”Fifth Imperial Uncle, he’s a fool. If he were in the Capital City when my father was deposed, he could definitely have been the Crown Prince. But he’s just a fool, marrying a useless woman, losing Grandfather’s favor. Isn’t that foolish?”

”That’s right. So shouldn’t you marry a Court official’s daughter to add strong backing for yourself?”

”Backing, backing?” Huangfu Yuxuan shook his head and laughed, ”Those women, I don’t fancy them... You’re the greatest backing, you... you surpass them tenfold... no, hundredfold!”

”You still haven’t said why you want to marry me?” Xia Wenjin’s eyes grew deeper. Prince Cheng married a Jianghu woman; he called that foolish. Now she, too, is a Jianghu woman; if he says he’s not after anything, she won’t believe it!

Huangfu Yuxuan giggle-laughed and said, ”Because... uh...”

Xia Wenjin remained calm, but in her heart, she anticipated this answer. Only by knowing why Huangfu Yuxuan wanted to marry her could she find a way to cancel the engagement.

But previously eloquent Huangfu Yuxuan fell silent at this moment. He hiccupped, tilted his head at Xia Wenjin, and giggled, ”You’re a backing! Uh, also, you’re good-looking, good-looking so I marry, sassy, I like...”

Xia Wenjin: ”...”

This guy’s guard was strong; though drunk, he still remained sober.

Looking at the remaining two bowls of high-strength brew, Xia Wenjin raised her bowl: ”Drink up, such good wine, lucky for you!”

Saying this, she downed the wine in front of her in one shot.

Seeing her drink so briskly, fearing to fall behind, Huangfu Yuxuan quickly raised his bowl, gulping it down in one go. Then he looked dazedly at Xia Wenjin, ”You’re really beautiful...”

Xia Wenjin enticed him: ”Didn’t you say I’m a backing? What kind of backing? Makes you insist on marrying only me?”

Huangfu Yuxuan revealed a silly grin and, tongue tied, said, ”Backing, backing, marry you, can... can make me...”
