The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!

Chapter 249: Chapter 249: Just Want to Be a Hero

Huangfu Jingchen spoke as he slowly walked towards Xia Wenjin.

Wenjin was startled: ”What? How? You’re not a doctor!”

Huangfu Jingchen did not reply, and continued to approach step by step.

Following his gaze, Wenjin instinctively looked at herself, then unconsciously stepped back, forcing a smile: ”Alright, alright, stop fooling around. There’s serious business to attend to. I also need to see the patients now!”

As she spoke, she attempted to move past him, trying to leave the room.

Huangfu Jingchen reached out and grabbed her wrist, lightly applying force to pull her. Caught off guard, Wenjin stumbled forward and fell, but not onto the ground; instead, she fell into a broad embrace.

She was about to struggle free, but Huangfu Jingchen quickly pressed a point on her body, immobilizing her.

Wenjin hurriedly exclaimed: ”Let go of me first, we can talk this over!” The sensation of suddenly losing control over her limbs caught her completely off guard.

Huangfu Jingchen straightforwardly bent down, picked her up, and placed her on the bed.

A trace of panic flashed in Wenjin’s eyes, and she managed a laugh: ”Huang Zheng, you have to believe me, I never deceived you... well, although I did lie to you in the past, there’s no need for me to deceive you in this matter. Don’t we even have this bit of trust between us?”

Huangfu Jingchen pursed his lips and glanced at her.

Seeing a hint of wavering in the young man’s gaze, Wenjin added with a laugh: ”Huang Zheng, I’m human too. I don’t want to catch the epidemic myself. No, I’m even more afraid of contracting the epidemic. I just want to be a hero, I won’t deliberately put myself in harm’s way. You know me, I don’t do things that make me suffer losses, so are you still worried I might lie to you?”

Huangfu Jingchen slowly nodded, saying: ”It seems like that’s the case!”

She is so clever, as sly as a cat—she doesn’t do things that make her suffer losses.

But what is a loss? What isn’t?

Taking advantage of him, stealing his silver coins, he suffers a loss.

Yet, in a twist, she used that silver to invest in real estate and shops, supporting Jing Xian and her mother!

Isn’t that a kind of loss for her?

Wenjin pressed on: ”Yes, that’s exactly how I am! I just want people to admire me, look up to me, think of me as their deity, able to cure their epidemic, saving them from disasters. If I were to die, wouldn’t there be nothing left? So, if I contracted the epidemic, I’d be the first to escape, faster than anyone. Now that I’m still here, it proves nothing has happened. Huang Zheng, stop fooling around, release my point! You need to attend to your duties, be sensible!”

Huangfu Jingchen looked at her seriously but didn’t respond, instead reached out and pressed her mute point.

With earnest and unwavering eyes, the young man said: ”Wenjin, I know you can persuade me. You’re right, and each of your words is very convincing—I’m almost convinced. But no matter what, I still have doubts in my heart, so I must trouble you first. Unless I see with my own eyes and confirm that you’re truly alright, I won’t leave!”

Just wanting to be a hero? Just wanting the people here to see her as a deity?

How could such words deceive him?

The more she tried to urge him to leave, the more she exposed.

She’s panicking!

She’s trying her best to prevent herself!

Why panic?

Why prevent herself?

He’s merely taking a look, confirming only!

Originally, Wenjin thought she had already persuaded Huangfu Jingchen, as she was so unwilling, and Huangfu Jingchen was a model gentleman—peaceful and benevolent, he wouldn’t act forcefully.

But who would have thought, to avoid being persuaded by her, he actually pressed her mute point?

Suddenly acting out of character, Huangfu Jingchen caught Wenjin off guard. She tried to speak but found herself unable to utter a sound—this time, she was genuinely panicking, pleading silently with her eyes for Huangfu Jingchen to stop.

Yet, seeing her eyes, Huangfu Jingchen felt even more certain that she was hiding something!

Otherwise, what did the undisguised panic in her eyes mean?

She kept him from seeing, didn’t want to meet him, and wanted Doctor Yan to send him away. If he hadn’t barged in, he wouldn’t have even seen her.

Even when he saw her, she kept a distance!

She always smiled—a light and bright smile, making others feel like bathing in spring breeze.

But she should be smiling mischievously, cunningly, playfully, like teasing, or like ridiculing when bantering...

That kind of smile, it was meant to reassure, but also to dismiss, right?

Huangfu Jingchen’s heart sank further.

She’s a doctor, her medical skills are so brilliant, yet if even she has trouble...

Who can save her?

He didn’t dare to think further, only kept speaking to relieve his own worries, meanwhile explaining to Wenjin, he slowly said: ”I remember you once told me, if infected with the epidemic, red spots would appear on one’s body, those spots would slowly grow, and then turn into illness! You say you’re fine, but I’ll only trust after I see for myself!”

”Please don’t be mad at me; it’s not that I don’t trust you, nor that I want to go against your will. It’s just... seeking peace of mind!”

”Wenjin, though we’ve known each other briefly, I’ve already considered you an important part of my life, a friend, or a brother! I know my worries shouldn’t override your wishes. Just think of me as selfish!”

”Don’t resent me... no, you can resent me. After I’ve seen, no matter if you hit or scold, I’m willing to accept it!”

...

He extended his hand to undo her clothes.

Panic filled Wenjin’s heart, unable to move or even make a sound, she could only watch as Huangfu Jingchen pulled open her clothes at the front.

The gown undone, revealed the inner garment, but Huangfu Jingchen, without hesitation, reached again to undo the inner garment, and yet, after unfastening it, he was suddenly startled to see yet another...

A layer of cloth wrapped tightly around her chest, layer upon layer, flattening the area neatly.

It wasn’t even cold now, so why bind with all these?

Huangfu Jingchen’s heart raced; his hand paused as he stared at Wenjin in shock.

Wenjin’s face was flushed at the moment; she knew she couldn’t hide any longer. But exposing her true identity in front of a young man, especially with his hand doing the reveal, left her not knowing whether to feel ashamed or annoyed, her eyes faintly misted, looking at him forlornly.

Huangfu Jingchen also flushed, heart pounding like a drum.

His hand paused in mid-air, uncertain whether to withdraw or continue, leaving him dazed, with his mind blank, unable to think. Yet, there was a muddled turmoil within his brain, as if tangled in chaos.

He never expected to witness such a scene.

Although the cloth wasn’t unwrapped, he was not completely ignorant; of course he understood, people wouldn’t bind so much cloth at the front without a reason—to conceal something?

He was at a loss, embarrassed and disoriented, saying: ”I... I didn’t know... I’m sorry...”
