The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!

Chapter 222: Chapter 222: Warning

Fortunately, there were only a dozen or so people at the clinic at this time, otherwise, the entire clinic might have been overturned.

Xia Wenjin said in a deep voice, ”Quiet down and listen to me!”

”Listen to what? What do you have to say? You’re just a child speaking nonsense. What epidemic? Have you lost your mind?”

”Exactly, how could there be an epidemic here? So young and yet causing trouble!”

”Where are your parents? Let your parents speak, we won’t listen to you!”

”Why are you stirring up trouble here? Doctor Zhang hasn’t even spoken, so what do you want to say?”

...

Xia Wenjin fiercely said, ”Shut up!”

This outburst was like a thunderclap on a clear day, ringing in everyone’s ears, and the chaotic noise stopped instantly. No one expected such a small child to produce a voice like that, as if it had been shouted right into their ears.

At this moment, the young girl’s fair face was frost-covered, her eloquent eyes filled with anger and authority. Her gaze was as sharp as a knife, and whoever she looked at would avert their eyes, no one dared to meet her gaze.

Xia Wenjin stated clearly, ”I never said that all those poisoned by miasma are infected with the epidemic. However, an epidemic is caused by the invasion of malevolent energy, and the improper treatment of miasma poisoning can lead to an epidemic.”

”Did Doctor Zhang say you told the mayor it was an epidemic? Is it true?”

”We were just poisoned by miasma, every year many people are poisoned, and Doctor Zhang says it’s just miasma, right?”

”Why are you saying it’s an epidemic? If it really is, would that benefit you in any way?”

...

Zhang Jiantang noticed the patients were clamoring again, his eyes flashed with cunning as he said, ”Just say you didn’t see the mayor, and whether you mentioned this matter! In front of everyone, you can’t lie!”

Xia Wenjin replied calmly, ”I went, why would I lie? Even if it’s an epidemic, it’s not incurable.”

”So you did see the mayor, what exactly is your purpose?”

”Right, you certainly mean no good! Every year many are poisoned by miasma, but no one ever says it’s an epidemic. You’re cursing us!”

Zhang Jiantang chuckled coldly, eager for chaos, ”Everyone, the situation is very clear now. This child, with unknown motives, claims everyone has an epidemic. Think about it, an epidemic is contagious, if spread, it leads to death, who wouldn’t value their life? He’s just an outsider, if it were truly an epidemic, he’d be out of here faster than anyone else.”

Everyone thought it made sense.

If it were an epidemic, why not run, waiting to catch the disease? Nobody is foolish! Unless there is a motive.

The more they thought this way, the more convinced they became, looking at Xia Wenjin with malevolent eyes, as if the word ’conspiracy’ was written all over her.

Xia Wenjin was amused with anger, looking at the villagers who seemed ready to eat her up, their anger stirred easily, their eyes now truly vicious towards Xia Wenjin.

Seeing Zhang Jiantang’s smug expression, Xia Wenjin wouldn’t let him off so easily, she raised her voice, ”I don’t charge for treating illness, what conspiracy could I have? Zhang Jiantang is deliberately scaring you, trying to cause trouble and get you to drive me away, fearing you won’t go to him for treatment, leaving him without income from selling medicine! If you let him instigate you against me, you’ll be playing right into his hands!”

Being seen through, Zhang Jiantang was furious, ”You’re talking nonsense! I’m just thinking of everyone’s interests, and the fees I charge are just hard-earned money!”

Although he spoke with righteous indignation, in that honest and forthright manner, the villagers who were just filled with anger were no longer so mad.

They all knew how much money Doctor Zhang could bleed them for, as just an illness could drain their entire savings.

They both hated and feared him.

This youngster treats without charging?

Isn’t everything about money? If she doesn’t even want money, what is she after? Surely not their lives? Their lives are of no use to others.

But, though the villagers were less agitated, their gaze upon Xia Wenjin was still filled with distrust!

After all, she was too young, looked fifteen or sixteen? Such a young girl, could she heal, could she treat?

Even if treatment is free, wouldn’t the medicine cost money?

She’s just an outsider, surely she won’t stay in the town forever, treating everyone freely, she’d leave eventually.

If they offended Doctor Zhang, he might charge even more in the future.

This left the villagers hesitating.

At this point, Doctor Zhang warned, ”Everyone must think clearly, nothing’s free in this world. Either she’s unskilled using you for practice, or there’s another motive. Don’t be fooled, if you are, don’t blame me for not being clear today!”

It was not only a warning, but also a threat.

A villager side-eyed the blustering Doctor Zhang and suddenly said, ”We trust Doctor Zhang, outsiders shouldn’t spread rumors here. If you dare curse us again, we’ll drag you to the government!”

Several people chimed in, ”Right, what gives an outsider the right to dictate here, let’s drive her away!”

This time, the villagers were no longer polite, swarming forward, someone even raised a fist towards her, and if she hadn’t dodged quickly, that punch would’ve landed on her.

If it came to blows, Xia Wenjin certainly wasn’t afraid; however, these were innocent people misled by Zhang Jiantang. Clashing with them would help no one, actually serving Zhang Jiantang’s purpose.

She sincerely wanted to help them avoid past life’s tragedy, but she was too young, with no foundation here, and no one was willing to believe her.

The villagers’ emotions became even more agitated, worrying they wouldn’t curry favor with Doctor Zhang fast enough, they surged forward, even the gasping, sick old man raised his skinny hand to hit Xia Wenjin, showing his support for Zhang Jiantang.

Zhang Jiantang, seeing all the villagers on his side, flashed a smug grin again.

Xia Wenjin was infuriated by Zhang Jiantang’s wickedness.

To avoid getting hit, she had to retreat.

Fortunately, these villagers, while agitated and aggressive, didn’t intend to beat her to death, only to drive her away. As she backed to the door, a young man said, ”Get lost quickly, we thought you were Doctor Zhang’s apprentice, turns out you’re a fraud; see you next time, we’ll beat you every time!”

Xia Wenjin tried to speak again, but these people neither believed her nor risked Doctor Zhang not treating them, so no one listened.

Xia Wenjin’s piercing gaze looked through the door frame at Zhang Jiantang’s smug face, ”So, Doctor Zhang plans to report like this to the mayor? I hope you don’t regret it!”
