The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!

Chapter 237: Chapter 237: Good News

Xia Wenjin tilted her head and glanced at the villagers, and Lin Zhonglun chuckled, ”Little Brother Xia, you’re right to heed this gentleman’s advice. Treating everyone’s illness shouldn’t make you fall sick first; you do need to rest!”

”Yes, go on!” An elderly woman came over and pressed three eggs wrapped in a handkerchief into her hands, showing a kindly smile on her face full of wrinkles: ”I heard you haven’t eaten, specially boiled these for you, eat them on the way!”

Then others came, offering cakes and food, filling Xia Wenjin’s hands completely.

Xia Wenjin said, ”Thank you!”

”It’s us who should thank you, Little Brother Xia!”

Xia Wenjin addressed Lin Zhonglun, ”Lin Village Chief, please pay attention to those without red spots, ensure they don’t approach the isolation point. Anyone with red spots, don’t delay, go to the isolation point immediately; it’s responsible for their family and good for themselves, lest the illness worsens. My brother has returned, and medicine and doctors will come to help soon. For the isolation point, I’ll need Lin Village Chief to take extra care!”

Lin Zhonglun saw that she almost couldn’t keep her eyes open, yet was still meticulously instructing everyone, he chuckled, ”That’s my duty, rest assured!”

Xia Wenjin addressed the villagers gathered from various villages behind him, ”Everyone should go back; try to stay indoors as much as possible these days. If red spots appear on your body, don’t hide it, quickly come to the isolation point.”

The villagers, who were previously quite resistant, all nodded, indicating they would certainly comply.

...

Seeing Xia Wenjin endlessly instructing, Huangfu Jingchen simply bent down, wrapped his arm around Xia Wenjin’s waist, and hoisted her onto the horse. Taken by surprise, Xia Wenjin let out a light gasp, and in the next moment, she found herself on horseback, leaning back against Huangfu Jingchen’s broad chest.

Huangfu Jingchen turned his head, ”I’ll bring her back once she wakes up!”

He gave the horse’s flank a tap, and the horse started to run forward.

Xia Wenjin said helplessly, ”I haven’t finished yet!”

”We’ll talk later!” Huangfu Jingchen didn’t plan to find a place in the village to stay, instead ready to seek an inn in the town and personally supervise her sleep.

The horse galloped fast, though it was a sweltering moment, at this speed, the wind stirred, a breath of cool breeze brushed her face, unexpectedly pleasant.

Xia Wenjin said, ”The illness worsened a lot in recent days; once you go to the town today, don’t come back to the village anymore. It’s dangerous!”

”What about you?”

”I’m a doctor, I know how to protect myself!”

”Your idea of protection is not sleeping for days on end, spinning like a top without rest?”

”Cough...well, it’s because we lack hands! It won’t happen again!”

...

Huangfu Jingchen loosened the reins; this was directly leading to the town, the only road connecting the villages to the town, it wouldn’t stray off course. He let the horse run on its own, took an egg from Xia Wenjin’s hand, carefully peeled off the shell, and handed it to Xia Wenjin, saying, ”You really think you’re made of iron, eat something!”

Xia Wenjin took it, nibbling as she ate.

Only when eating did she realize how hungry she was; because of hunger, she needed to control her pace to eat slowly.

Huangfu Jingchen peeled another one, handing it over, Xia Wenjin said, ”Thank you!”

Huangfu Jingchen laughed, ”Why so formal with me?”

At this moment, Huangfu Jingchen was in a good mood, although earlier he was furious over Song Heizi and his crowd’s actions, feeling an urge to take Xia Wenjin away immediately. However, seeing those innocent villagers stepping up, speaking up for Xia Wenjin, apologizing sincerely, full of hope and expectation, his anger slowly dissipated.

But Xia Wenjin was willing to overlook her own health for others, something he wouldn’t permit.

Though five days apart left him with much to say to Xia Wenjin, at this moment, he just patiently peeled the egg without uttering a word.

Speaking can wait until she’s well-rested.

After he said this, not hearing a response from Xia Wenjin, he couldn’t help but look down, his eyes met a scene that made him chuckle; Xia Wenjin was already nestled against his chest asleep, still holding the egg up to her mouth.

He laughed softly, then felt a pang of sadness, how tired must she be to fall asleep like this?

He wrapped an arm around her, allowing her a more comfortable position, and slowed the horse’s pace, making the ride as smooth as possible, so she could rest well.

After being given a beating by Xia Wenjin, along with a scolding, several days passed, Wang Bolao’s face still hadn’t cleared of bruises.

But he dared not target Xia Wenjin again, after all, being the town mayor, he wasn’t without sense. Besides asking him to gather village chiefs to set up isolation points, organize wealthy families to donate money for medicine, and suggest reporting to higher authorities, Xia Wenjin hadn’t made things difficult for him.

Previously, it struck him when Zhang Jiantang said: if an epidemic arises, would an outsider risk their life for it? He believed this made sense, coupled with being reprimanded by the county magistrate, it led him to vent anger on Xia Wenjin.

In truth, thinking back, it was the village chiefs setting up isolation points. Organizing wealthy families to donate money for medicine was something he sent people to handle, money hadn’t passed through Xia Wenjin’s hands, and these patients were indeed real, their illness worrisome. Xia Wenjin tirelessly examined and treated, village to town, town to village, wherever there were patients there she was; could such a person be a fraud?

Would a swindler not seek money or gain, yet exhaust themselves like this?

Is there such a foolish swindler?

So, Wang Bolao felt there might indeed be a Bodhisattva’s heart.

Perhaps Heaven saw Wangshan Town facing disaster, thus especially sent this young Bodhisattva-hearted individual to save them?

Wang Bolao, with embarrassment, couldn’t muster the face to see Xia Wenjin anymore, feeling discomfort, naturally avoiding interactions. Nonetheless, he kept up with urging the Village Chief.

That day, just as he was asking someone about Xia Wenjin’s condition, a subordinate with a gossip-bearing smile and seeking credit, ingratiatingly said, ”Mayor, good news!”

”What good news?”

That person said, ”I’ve heard an enormous piece of good news, you’ll be delighted once you know, Mayor.”

”Spit it out, stop stalling!” Wang Bolao glared at him.

Only then did the man smile brightly and say, ”I got word, Zhang Jiantang has always hated Xia Wenjin deeply, right? He’s so greedy, he actually spent Silver to hire someone, planning to ’deal with’ the lad!”

Wang Bolao squinted, ”What do you mean by ’deal with’?”

”Isn’t the lad from elsewhere?” The subordinate said proudly, ”In recent days, Zhang Jiantang’s clinic business has suffered, not to mention, Mayor, you heard about using his clinic as an isolation point, it pain him so much he couldn’t sleep. So he found Song Heizi from the village, told him to incite villagers, claiming the lad is a swindler, go ahead and kill the lad.”
