The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!

Chapter 215: Chapter 215: Black Spot?

Uncle Kuang and Auntie Kang did not feel dissatisfied because Huangfu Jingchen and Xia Wenjin said they would stay for a day but did not leave. On the contrary, they were very hospitable.

Their son and daughter-in-law were not around, only their little grandson was by their side. The little grandson liked young people like Huangfu Jingchen and Xia Wenjin, admired their vast knowledge, and was intrigued by their awareness of things beyond the village. Seeing the little grandson happy, they would gladly welcome them even if Huangfu Jingchen was not generous with money.

Moreover, last night, Huangfu Jingchen fetched Doctor Zhang, and from beginning to end, Doctor Zhang did not ask Zhuzi for a consultation fee or medicine expense. Naturally, it was this young man who covered the fees.

They had a very good impression of the two, and at the dining table, they brought out the best things they had to offer.

But Xia Wenjin really couldn’t eat much.

Under Huangfu Jingchen’s suggestive gaze, she still only ate half a bowl.

After eating, Xia Wenjin said to Auntie Kang, ”Auntie, I want to see if Zhuzi’s mother’s condition has improved!”

Auntie Kang said, ”I was just about to check on her; let’s go together!”

Xia Wenjin shook her head and said, ”Auntie, you better stay at home and take care of Hong’er. I’ll go check, and I’ll tell you about it when I’m back.”

Auntie Kang said in surprise, ”That’s not right, is it? We are all neighbors; we couldn’t solve her problem, but we should still check on her.”

Xia Wenjin insisted, ”Auntie, listen to me. If you want to go, wait for me to come back first, okay?”

Seeing her very serious expression, Auntie Kang still nodded and said, ”Okay, okay, I’ll listen to you. I’ll wait for you to come back before I go.”

As Xia Wenjin walked out, Huangfu Jingchen followed her, stating unequivocally, ”I’ll go with you!”

Xia Wenjin glanced at him and said, ”You don’t need to come; I’ll explain everything when I get back!”

Huangfu Jingchen noticed the trace of fatigue on her face and said, ”Let’s go together; you can tell me on the way!”

Xia Wenjin’s face darkened, ”I said don’t follow me!”

Her sharp, severe tone directed at Huangfu Jingchen was unprecedented. Huangfu Jingchen was taken aback, and in that moment of surprise, Xia Wenjin had already ridden away.

Huangfu Jingchen wanted to follow but was afraid of making Xia Wenjin angry. He hesitated for a while, sensing something unusual had happened.

Otherwise, why would Xia Wenjin choose to stay voluntarily, and not only stay, but also behave so strangely?

Upon seeing Xia Wenjin, Zhuzi, because of last night’s events, was especially grateful to her. Hearing she was going to check on his mother’s illness, he was overjoyed and led Xia Wenjin to his mother’s room.

Zhuzi’s mother had a severe cough and occasionally spit up blood, but she still had some energy. At this time, with Zhuzi’s support, she sat up from the bed. Last night, she was reluctant to let Xia Wenjin examine her due to the cost. However, when Doctor Zhang arrived, she was greatly surprised and worried about the consultation fees. Once they left, she immediately asked Zhuzi, who dared not reveal how much it cost, only saying that the kind gentleman paid.

Zhuzi’s mother was grateful and instructed Zhuzi that the money should be repaid someday, even if they couldn’t afford it now. Zhuzi nodded repeatedly, daring not to say more.

With dim lighting, it was hard to see clearly. Zhuzi went outside to light an oil-fueled stick, nervously asking, ”Can you see clearly now? Should I light another one?”

Many in the village couldn’t afford lamps.

However, as Auntie Kang previously mentioned, there was a type of oily wood on the mountain that burned well. Split into thin strips and lit, they could be used for illumination.

Thus, nearby villages unable to afford lamps used this kind of oily wood. The only downside was the thick smoke, requiring constant ventilation to avoid discomfort.

Last night, Zhuzi’s family also used this.

Xia Wenjin nodded and said, ”It’s enough!” She observed Zhuzi’s mother’s complexion, which had indeed improved since yesterday. Turning to Zhuzi, she said, ”I need to examine Auntie; could you step outside for a moment?”

After Zhuzi left, Zhuzi’s mother coughed lightly, probably feeling that coughing in front of such a picturesque young person seemed quite disrespectful, so she tried her best to suppress it.

Xia Wenjin said, ”Auntie, if you need to cough, just cough. Don’t hold it in, it’s uncomfortable!”

Zhuzi’s mother smiled sheepishly, ”Young sir, thank you for coming to see me again. After taking the medicine yesterday, I’ve been much better. Thank you all for bringing the doctor and paying the bill. We can’t repay the money now, but my son and I will surely repay it someday even if we have to work tirelessly, young sir...”

Xia Wenjin smiled and said, ”Auntie, I’m here to check on your illness today; let’s not talk about other things. Auntie, can you check if there’s anything different about your chest?”

Zhuzi’s mother asked in confusion, ”Anything different?”

Xia Wenjin smiled, ”That’s why I’m asking you to check!” With that, she turned around.

Zhuzi’s mother hurriedly untied her clothes and took a look herself.

After a while, Zhuzi’s mother’s voice came, ”Young sir, there’s nothing!”

Xia Wenjin turned back, Zhuzi’s mother was already dressed and still sitting on the bed. She asked, ”No red spots or rashes?”

Zhuzi’s mother asked suspiciously, ”If there were red rashes or spots, what would it mean?”

Xia Wenjin smiled, ”It doesn’t mean much, just that the condition is more serious, and the medication needs to be adjusted.”

Zhuzi’s mother shook her head, ”There’s nothing!”

Xia Wenjin breathed a sigh of relief, which was somewhat good news. She smiled and said, ”Good, Auntie. Your illness is due to inhaling miasma, but it’s not severe. Once the miasma clears, you’ll recover. Remember to take the medicine Doctor Zhang prescribed on time!”

”I’m taking it on time, taking it on time!” Zhuzi’s mother quickly said.

Xia Wenjin smiled and nodded and stood up.

Doctor Zhang, having worked here for many years, knew that villagers often suffered from miasma during summer. Fortunately, the mountain miasma was not very intense and not life-threatening. He had gained experience in treating it, becoming quite arrogant. He manufactured pills for miasma in batches and had plenty in stock.

She had seen those pills and found that they indeed worked for some patients.

However, those with rashes needed further examination.

She felt uneasy.

Zhuzi escorted Xia Wenjin to the door, expressing endless gratitude.

Looking at his honest smile, Xia Wenjin suddenly said, ”Zhuzi, could you let me see your chest?”

Zhuzi was taken aback, ”What’s wrong?”

Xia Wenjin said, ”It’s just a check; if it’s inconvenient, never mind.”

Zhuzi grinned, ”We’re both men, what’s inconvenient?” With that, he started unbuttoning.

Xia Wenjin didn’t expect Zhuzi to act so decisively, in just the blink of an eye, his whole chest and abdomen were exposed to Xia Wenjin.

Xia Wenjin found it both amusing and exasperating, but she still took a look. In the light of the oil stick, she was startled to see a black spot on Zhuzi’s chest?
