The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!

Chapter 248: Chapter 248: I Don’t Believe It

However, Xia Wenjin still did not inquire.

No matter what identity Huang Zheng possessed, it actually wasn’t important. Because that’s not the main point.

The main point before was, once he went to Liangzhou, got the jade pendant, he and she would part ways, becoming strangers ever since.

The main point now is...

She sighed softly in her heart, but showed not the slightest on her face, her tone warm and earnest, said: ”Huang Zheng, I’m sorry, because of my persistence and willfulness, I’ve dragged you into this matter! I’ve thought about it, the Northern County Magistrate has a high position and power, overseeing a region, even if you’re from a wealthy background, you fear not being able to contend with it, and might even get yourself involved. I haven’t considered this thoroughly, don’t concern yourself with this matter, you’ll follow the original route to Liangzhou, Yutong County, find the Pavilion Master of Glazed Pavilion, mention my name, take back the jade pendant from him!”

This plan might not work; she hadn’t gone, the jade pendant might not be retrieved, but it’s worth a try. Furthermore, to let Huangfu Jingchen avoid this troublesome place.

Huangfu Jingchen looked at her surprisingly, wasn’t it discussed well just before, why was she now urging him to leave?

He said: ”At least before getting the jade pendant, I won’t leave alone!” Yet in his mind, he thought: ”Wherever you are, there I am!”

Xia Wenjin: ”...”

Before getting the jade pendant? How could she get the jade pendant now?

Originally, it was to resolve the mysteries of the past life by sending the jade pendant to Glazed Pavilion, who knew today, it would be such a situation. The young man’s clear brows like a painting, he shouldn’t have appeared here, shouldn’t be dragged into this matter.

If she couldn’t change the outcome of the past life, wouldn’t such a bright young man be burdened by her? He was meant to have a brilliant life!

Let’s consider it as her conscience awakening!

”You can fetch the jade pendant alone.” Xia Wenjin tried to persuade: ”I don’t know when I can break free! It’s too dangerous here, you shouldn’t be here!”

”In your eyes, am I someone who seeks fortune and avoids calamity?” Huangfu Jingchen stared at her: ”What you can do for those people, do you think I can’t? Your concern for them, do you think I won’t share it? You have compassion, pure and kind intentions, do you presume that I don’t?”

”I... didn’t mean that!”

Huangfu Jingchen said quietly: ”You have your persistence in your heart, and I have mine! We are both doing what we can. You want to treat and save people, I won’t stop you; I want to do my part, please don’t stop me! Is that alright?”

Xia Wenjin looked at the young man’s seemingly hurt face, and inwardly let out a bitter smile.

After spending so much time together, she knew that Huangfu Jingchen had a kind heart, even though he was manipulated and lied to by her, after finding her, he could have made her suffer in retaliation, but he didn’t do that.

Perhaps it was because of this kindness and purity, that Xia Wenjin didn’t want to drag him in, but now, it seemed impossible to change. Discussing further, some matters would change, she corrected herself and apologized: ”I was thinking too stubbornly. Now, go handle things promptly! I’ll do my best regarding the epidemic inside. As for outside matters, I can only rely on you!”

Seeing she finally stopped urging him to leave, and her eyes filled with apology instantly dispelled the little grievance in his heart, he remembered the purpose of breaking in, looked at her deeply, and said: ”I’ll do my best with outside matters. Wenjin, are you really alright?”

Xia Wenjin’s eyes sparkled: ”What could be the matter with me?”

Huangfu Jingchen said: ”Then take care of yourself! I’ll come back to see you in a few days!”

”Go, go, but next time you come, don’t just break in here.” Xia Wenjin nodded with a smile: ”Also, remember to drink two bowls of medicinal soup after you leave!”

Her detailed admonition filled Huangfu Jingchen’s heart with warmth, he said softly: ”I understand, don’t worry!”

Xia Wenjin escorted him to the door, watched him leave, and then returned inside, closing the door.

Once the door was closed, Xia Wenjin’s previous calm demeanor disappeared. She slightly furrowed her brow, pressing against her throat, suppressing a cough that was about to escape. She quickly took out a small bottle from her sleeve, poured a pill, and swallowed it.

Yet, the urge to cough persisted, thinking that Huangfu Jingchen had gone far and that this small house was remote and quiet with no one coming, she finally let out the cough.

Feeling somewhat weak beneath her feet, she rushed to the table, poured a glass of water, and tried to suppress the cough with it.

However, the water was of no help; the cough became unstoppable, worsening. Soon, heat surged from her throat. She quickly pulled out a handkerchief from her sleeve, covering her lips.

A streak of bright red appeared on the white handkerchief, stark and vivid like plum blossoms against the snow.

A trace of bitterness appeared at the corner of her lips, yes, wanting Huangfu Jingchen to leave was indeed part of the reason.

At that moment, suddenly, the door banged open.

Xia Wenjin hurriedly clenched the handkerchief and hid it behind her.

At the doorway, a young man’s handsome face showed concern and doubt, his first words upon entering were an urgent inquiry: ”Wenjin, were you coughing? I heard your cough!”

Xia Wenjin displayed an expression of surprise, said: ”Why haven’t you left?” Then, smiling, she explained: ”I was just thinking, and accidentally choked on water! It’s nothing! You should quickly attend to your matters, you shouldn’t stay here long!”

Huangfu Jingchen’s suspicious gaze fell on her face, then glanced at the table.

Indeed, there was a cup of water that had been drunk.

Xia Wenjin remained smiling, seemingly relaxed and casually sitting at the table, she picked up a prescription, seemingly ready to study it.

Huangfu Jingchen mused suspiciously: ”Are you really alright?”

Xia Wenjin turned and smiled: ”Have you become so fussy after a few days without seeing me? If something were wrong, wouldn’t I tell you? Of course, I’m fine! Go on and be busy, I won’t see you off!”

Huangfu Jingchen moved to the door.

With her back to the door, Xia Wenjin said: ”Close the door for me!”

At this moment, she dared not move, fearing any movement might trigger a cough.

Huangfu Jingchen closed the door, then he walked towards Xia Wenjin!

Sensing something was amiss, Xia Wenjin turned to see Huangfu Jingchen approaching, and asked, puzzled: ”Do you have something else?”

Huangfu Jingchen looked at her steadily: ”You were coughing!”

A trace of panic flashed in Xia Wenjin’s eyes, but it passed too quickly, and she quickly lowered her eyelids to hide it, smiling: ”Didn’t I just say? I choked on water.”

”Really?” the young man’s gaze filled with doubt.

Xia Wenjin laughed, said: ”Haven’t you seen? Look, here I am, perfectly fine in front of you!” She felt the urge to cough had subsided, stood up, and even spun around to show she was alright.

”I don’t believe it!” Huangfu Jingchen said slowly: ”Only seeing it will put my mind at ease!”
