Reborn with a Space: Building a Fortune Amidst Famine

Chapter 142: 142 Busy

The two of them certainly had no objections, as it was someone else’s responsibility.

Another car was delivered in the second half of the night. So tomorrow, three more cars will come, with one car loaded with meats. The day after tomorrow, the two of them will act separately.

”Let’s keep half of this meat. You store it, and the rest will be transported over.”

The next day, the two of them made three more trips, totaling sixty tons, which is 120,000 pounds. At the rate of ten cents per pound, that’s twelve thousand. The two of them discussed that by transporting another twenty tons, they would accumulate enough grain for four cars. The remaining grain would still need Ivanov’s help.

Su Yuanyuan and Ivanov arrived at the train station. The arrangements here had already been made, and several cars of grain had arrived.

Su Yuanyuan directly used Divine Sense to inspect several cars of grain, all of which were good. This sped up the process significantly.

Tan Shaoting also brought a carload of meat. Seeing that there were no workers unloading it, he came over to help Su Yuanyuan.

Today, it was the farm owner’s grain. They delivered 100,000 pounds, which meant they had enough. They spent all the money. After setting things up here, Hu Wenzheng told them to leave the following night.

At late night, instead of returning the car, they went to Ivanov’s house.

Now, it was already the second half of the night, waiting for daybreak when the farm owner would arrive. Su Yuanyuan settled the payment with him.

Before leaving, she gave Ivanov a gold bar, which was more than he had earned.

”Thank you, sir, for your care during this time.”

Ivanov did not expect such a windfall and did not refuse. Initially, he was a little dissatisfied with their private procurement, but they finished off beautifully.

”You’re welcome. You two are exceptional.”

He wondered where their grain was coming from. Could it be from farm owners that he didn’t get along with? It must be so.

”Sir, we have to leave tonight. Thank you again, and we’ll be off. If you ever have the chance to visit our country, let us host you.”

”Alright, there will certainly be a chance in the future.”

Tan Shaoting drove, and they returned the car.

Now, with half a day to themselves, the two of them began to stroll around.

Su Yuanyuan had been eyeing the coats, so she bought ten of them in both men’s and women’s styles.

Also, they got some thick fabric, primarily buying several pairs of high-top boots so they could go out even in heavy snow during winter.

The rest were meat products, and they pretty much bought everything in sight until they couldn’t carry anymore. Only then did Su Yuanyuan stop, having spent all the local currency they had before returning.

The two of them gradually stored everything in the space, and when they got to the train station and found Hu Wenzheng, they were left with just two pairs of shoes and some meat.

”You’ve both worked hard.” The two of them shook their heads.

”Brother Hu, it’s our duty.”

”On our way back, I will go directly to the border.”

”Brother Hu, once we get off the train, the New Year will soon be upon us. We’ve been out for too long already, so we should head back.”

”Alright. I’ve arranged everything for you when you return.”

The two of them, having been under mental pressure for this stretch, finally sat on the train. Su Yuanyuan felt extremely exhausted.

All she wanted now was to leave immediately. In hindsight, her actions, bold as they were, could easily have been discovered by someone observant. It’s best to leave quickly.

She hoped they were just a small episode here, mere passersby.

Su Yuanyuan asked Tan Shaoting to get something to eat while she returned to the sleeping berth, then went into the space for a bath, feeling much better afterward.

Once the train started moving, Su Yuanyuan began to sleep. Tan Shaoting knew this girl was scared and also quite tired, so he didn’t disturb her.

The journey was quite safe, and when they finally got back to domestic territory, Su Yuanyuan’s heart was at ease. Finally, they were home.

Hu Wenzheng knew they wanted to buy fertilizers, so he had the leaders here issue a note, allowing them to buy the fertilizers.

The two of them took the note with a wry smile, ”Brother Hu, even if you give us a note now, we don’t have money to buy. But there is no date on this; we can buy it next year.”

Hu Wenzheng was aware that the two kids had donated all their hard-earned money from the year. It was truly admirable.

”Both of you be careful on the way. I’ve arranged a separate carriage for both of you to rest in.”

Su Yuanyuan handed all the accounts to Hu Wenzheng so all the accounts could be reconciled. Apart from the grain, the remaining money had been exchanged for meat.

They caught the returning train in time, so the two, carrying large and small bags, boarded the train and left.

Hu Wenzheng called the leaders to report on the situation abroad.

”We’ll talk about it later. We won’t forget them. Let Zhang Chunsheng come back tomorrow and press the train over.”

Zeng Zhenqing hung up the phone, thinking about how incredible his decision was back then. Just two kids managed to complete it successfully, truly impressive.

Boarding the train back, the two of them finally relaxed completely.

This time, they had so many goods in hand, wondering if they should sell some.

”Don’t worry; I know some people who handle such things. We won’t get off in the city but head to the provincial capital. I’ll arrange it.”

Su Yuanyuan nodded. The biggest disappointment this time was not managing to bring back a seeder. They would still have to rely on manual labor when they returned.

They arrived at the provincial capital on the third day of the New Year, which was no small feat. Luckily, Su Yuanyuan had a habit of collecting things, so they celebrated a splendid New Year.

After getting off the train, Su Yuanyuan felt relieved, that floating feeling finally grounding her.

The two of them immediately found a motel to stay in, but this time Tan Shaoting couldn’t stay with Su Yuanyuan.

”Can you manage on your own?”

”Of course, no problem. You’re just three years older than me. It’s like I’m your grandmother.”

Tan Shaoting found it amusing, his good intentions misunderstood.

After arranging for accommodations, Tan Shaoting went out. Now that they were here, Su Yuanyuan thought of making things easy, letting him handle things, as many items belonged to both of them. It’s easier to divide them into goods or cash.

Although there’s no need to split hairs over who works harder, it was nice to do nothing.

Staying in the room, she took the opportunity to enter the space for a bath and satisfy her cravings with a steak.

Eating and laughing, Su Yuanyuan thought she wouldn’t want to go back now; living here was much better.

Although it was tiring, it was bearable, and her quality of life hadn’t deteriorated.

Thinking of this ”godfather” treating her well, albeit chaotically, she, as a small person, lived freely and comfortably. This arrangement fit her just fine.
