Reborn with a Space: Building a Fortune Amidst Famine

Chapter 138: Harvest 138

Tan Shaoting nodded as well, noting that this mountain was too barren, with only stones and a few scattered trees.

Even with their Divine Sense, they couldn’t detect any sign of human life. If they were to hike, it would be quite difficult. So the two of them returned to the vicinity of the train tracks.

However, Su Yuanyuan had good luck. As they proceeded along the train tracks, they heard some commotion. This was hopeful. Although it was daytime, there was still a chance they could hop onto the train.

”Should we lie down?”

Tan Shaoting’s mouth twitched at Su Yuanyuan’s suggestion.

”No need, crouching down would make us invisible. Plus, there’s plenty of wild grass for cover.”

Both observed the train; it was a passenger train with a few people on board, but not many.

The train wasn’t moving fast, so the two decided to board from the back.

Once they finally got on the train, they both heaved a sigh of relief.

This was the end of the train, where the attendants might come to check, but no one was around now.

They looked around and found a room to enter, as it was relatively safer that way.

Since they looked so different from the people here, they didn’t dare to go out. Instead, they used their Divine Sense to observe the situation outside.

Hearing footsteps outside, Su Yuanyuan felt a bit nervous, but it should have been a routine check as the person left quickly.

For lunch, they ate steamed buns and milk, which was tasteless but safe.

Someone came by again, and the train stopped. This should be a station.

Now that it was daytime, they couldn’t openly get off the train. So, they could only wait patiently.

The train set off again, and by the afternoon, they finally reached the plains. Both saw large expanses of land, which was promising.

When night fell, the two jumped off the train. Su Yuanyuan laughed at herself, ”Do we resemble a pair of infamous bandits?”

Tan Shaoting admired Su Yuanyuan’s quirky train of thought, but he didn’t respond.

Actually, Su Yuanyuan was just saying it without expecting a reply from Tan Shaoting.

It was already late at night. When they got off, they had noticed a house here, probably used by farmers for rest. Seeing no one around, they headed straight for it.

This was indeed a resting place for farmers. Though simple, it was much better than the outside.

After entering, they started a fire. This was much warmer than being outside.

Having been tense for the past few days, both started to sleep upon reaching a relatively safe environment.

The next day, they got up and went out to check the environment. The fields here had already been harvested. Su Yuanyuan’s idea of picking leftovers was dashed.

But as foreigners, they didn’t understand the language here, even if they wanted to buy something, they couldn’t communicate or use money.

Yet Su Yuanyuan was determined not to return empty-handed.

So they started walking along the fields.

Heaven rewards hard work. On the third day, they finally found a large wheat field at the foot of the mountain, which had yet to be harvested.

This area was particularly quiet. Su Yuanyuan thought, ”Let’s settle here.”

It was so remote that they felt no worry using their superpowers.

The area was about four to five hundred acres. Despite day or night, except for meal breaks, they were continuously harvesting.

A week later, all the grain was harvested. They began packing them into sacks, and after a day, they used up all the sacks, only filling half of them.

”It’s about several tens of thousands of pounds,” Su Yuanyuan said with a smile on her face.

”It’s quite a lot. Are we going back?”

Su Yuanyuan shook her head, ”How could we? We barely made the trip. Let’s check the mountains to see if there’s anything else to find.”

Now both felt at ease and had time to relax.

Tan Shaoting watched as Su Yuanyuan took out five gold bars, wrapped them in plastic, and placed them in the middle of the ground.

He raised an eyebrow, no need for guilt?

Su Yuanyuan smiled, ”One must have principles. These are not ownerless items, and since we’re taking them, we should leave something. It may not cover all, but it should be close enough.”

Tan Shaoting nodded; he had no objections. Gold bars were incomparable to grain for them, so they were still at an advantage.

”If we encounter this situation again, do you still have gold bars?”

Su Yuanyuan nodded, ”These were all exchanged for Wild Boar.”

”Heh, if you like these, it’s quite simple. There are plenty buried east of the city; I can fetch them for you when we get back.”

”How do you know?”

”Heh, using Divine Sense, of course. I sensed something different while passing by, so I probed and found out.”

Su Yuanyuan nodded quickly, fearing it would be gone if she delayed.

The two headed directly up the mountain, ”Should we catch some wild animals too?”

”Of course, that’s exactly why I headed up, but leave the bears alone.”

”Why not?”

Su Yuanyuan didn’t know how to explain. She couldn’t say they’re future protected animals, could she?

So she awkwardly smiled without explaining further.

There were Wild Boars here too. For the two of them, it was hardly a challenge. After spending three days on the mountain, they had caught over twenty Wild Boars. They even reached the other side of the mountain, where there was also plenty of grain.

Su Yuanyuan felt like a mouse falling into a rice jar, thoroughly enjoying herself.

This time, it took them ten days to harvest all the grain, and Su Yuanyuan left behind six gold bars.

In reality, Su Yuanyuan wanted to bring back some supplies no matter what. But it was not easy for them to show up.

”Are we staying here longer? It’s already close to December; we should head back.”

Su Yuanyuan was unwilling to leave, thinking that just grain wasn’t proportional to their effort.

”Let’s stay another ten days. Regardless of what we achieve, we’ll leave in ten days.”

Heading back onto the mountain because they only knew the route they came by, getting lost would be troublesome, better to return the same way.

This trip up the mountain yielded plenty of wild animals. After descending, they headed in another direction.

There were some unharvested fields, though not as many. But grain was grain, so they continued harvesting as they walked.

When time was up, Su Yuanyuan didn’t need Tan Shaoting’s reminder, ”Let’s wait by the train tracks for the train.”

”Heading back?”

”Yes, let’s go back. We have nearly three hundred thousand pounds of grain, if not more.” They chatted as they walked.

”What are you planning to do with all this grain?”

”I plan to deliver it to the border battlefield.”

Tan Shaoting raised an eyebrow, not expecting this girl to aim for charity rather than profit. Quite noble?

”You can only give it secretly. Will they dare accept it?”
