Reborn with a Space: Building a Fortune Amidst Famine

Chapter 137: 137 Road上

The two leaned against each other, whispering about Yuanyuan’s matters in the village.

”Did you sell all the wild boar?”

”Mm, sold them all.”

”You’re really quite impressive.”

”Just lucky.”

They chatted incessantly until evening, still each with a thermos of hot water and meat-stuffed buns. Both held them in their hands, so even if anyone caught a whiff, they wouldn’t know what exactly they were eating. Plus, the buns had a mild scent, which was why they ate them without worry.

Tan Shaoting was now utterly impressed by Su Yuanyuan’s cooking, so many delicious things. It was something he’d never had before, truly delightful.

He ate three of them and only stopped because he figured he could eat another, but seeing Su Yuanyuan enjoying whatever she was having, he thought it must be good too.

Su Yuanyuan handed him one, it was a piece of rice cake.

She used to love these, so her space contained hundreds of pounds, some with dates, some with beans.

”Delicious.”

Su Yuanyuan nodded with her lips pursed. ”I love this stuff.”

In the waiting hall, apart from the ticket sellers, it was just the two of them. Extending a hand felt cold.

The two were cradling thermoses of hot water when two train policemen came over.

”Comrades. Where are you heading?”

Tan Shaoting stood up, ”Hello, comrades, we’re heading back to L City, catching tomorrow morning’s train.”

”It’s cold here at night. Be careful.”

The two thanked them, watching them leave. There were still a few hours to go. The night suited them, as boarding the train secretly was a last resort, since one needed proof to leave.

”Yuanyuan, I’ll go outside and check for any handles. If there are, shall we walk along the tracks for a while?”

”Mm. Okay, let’s go there together, it’s cold sitting in the waiting hall.”

Su Yuanyuan wrapped up tightly. Both had sharp senses, feeling the presence of many people, which meant there were surely people around.

The two exchanged a glance and moved in the opposite direction of the tracks.

There was no other way, luckily they thought of it, with a few hours left, they could walk slowly, increasing their chances.

To be honest, it wasn’t easy, this stealthy business was against Su Yuanyuan’s principles.

It was truly cold, possibly around negative forty to fifty degrees?

They both had some resistance to the cold, so it wasn’t unbearable.

Talking would fill one’s belly with wind, Tan Shaoting tugged Su Yuanyuan to a slightly sheltered area, ”Squat down and rest a bit, I’ll gather some firewood.”

”I have firewood with me here.”

The two sat by the fire, watching the time, ”Shall we put out the fire in half an hour?”

”Mm, after another half hour, we’ll continue walking.”

”Do you think we might have something like that feeling?”

Tan Shaoting understood what Su Yuanyuan meant and laughed.

Su Yuanyuan took out a kettle from her space, boiled some water, and made two cups of milk tea.

This environment was perfect for milk tea.

The time was about right, and the two continued on, ”Do you think we could bring back a sowing machine?”

”How would we explain its origin?”

”True, how do we explain it? It’s really a worry.”

The two heard train noises and quickly found a secluded spot to crouch down.

Tan Shaoting’s Divine Sense was stronger than Su Yuanyuan’s, ”There should be more than twenty people on the train, each carriage is full of cargo, fortunately, no one’s on top.”

”What’s on them?”

”Stones, probably ores.”

Su Yuanyuan nodded, ”We can board any carriage casually.”

”It’s all ores, and it’s not comfortable in there. But we have Earth Element Abilities, so we can stay under the ores, although it’s still cold.”

”It’s fine. It’s safer this way, there are too few people on the train. If we really board, it’s troublesome.”

The train passed before them. Around the middle, the two used Light Body Skill to get on, then with a gesture, they descended, raising a protective shield.

”Not cold, we can move around like this.”

”You’ll need to supply me with Spiritual Spring Water, otherwise I can only maintain the protective shield for a few hours.” Tan Shaoting smiled wryly, his mana wasn’t sufficient.

”Okay, if you get tired, then I’ll take over.”

”No problem.”

Su Yuanyuan didn’t hesitate, she took a coat from her space and covered herself, ”Then I’ll sleep.”

”Alright then. You sleep, I’ll handle everything, and wake you if I can’t hold on.”

After about an hour, the train reached a station, Tan Shaoting knew there’d be checks, but they were rather cursory for carriages filled with ores.

They stopped for about an hour, likely for train maintenance, before setting off again. He checked the time, it was already five in the morning.

Not sure where to get off yet, hoping it’d be soon.

After running for more than half an hour, the train stopped again, this time there were many people checking, likely at a foreign location now.

It took about an hour, then they set off again.

Su Yuanyuan woke on her own, handing Tan Shaoting a cup of Spiritual Spring Water.

”We’ve probably been in a foreign land for a couple of hours now.”

”Mm, let’s wait until evening to get off, that should be safer.”

Tan Shaoting followed Su Yuanyuan’s lead in everything. In his eyes, she was far more clear-headed than himself. She seemed much smarter than him.

The two had a bowl of wontons each, and Tan Shaoting also ate two biscuits.

Su Yuanyuan pulled out maps, two versions: a current one and a world map she’d collected earlier.

Comparing them, there wasn’t much difference.

Su Yuanyuan had studied history and geography. She knew which regions here were rich in grain, directing them to those places.

But she overlooked that neither of them understood the language here.

Finally, at night, the two jumped off the train; it had stopped only once throughout the day, likely for train maintenance.

In the dead of night, they had no idea where they were, all they saw were continuous mountains.

Mountains were good, mountains signaled potential harvests.

The temperature here was also quite low, but likely better than back home.

”Let’s head to the mountain’s base, there should be a sheltered spot there.”

The two used Light Body Skill, taking half an hour to reach a place resembling a cave indented into the mountainside. They sat down directly, the wind was gentler here.

”I’ll use the protective shield, you rest.” Tan Shaoting frowned, realizing it was too cold, and staying here could be problematic.

”I’ll do it, you rest.”

”I’m fine, I don’t need sleep as much.”

Su Yuanyuan handed Tan Shaoting a cup of Spiritual Spring Water, not hesitating, she couldn’t stand not sleeping, it just didn’t feel like rest.

At dawn, with Su Yuanyuan awake, they finally saw it clearly here, just a vast wasteland looking exceptionally desolate, ”We didn’t find the right spot.”
